RIP Humble Games. For something largely developed by one person, this does a decent enough job working within its considerable limits to deliver a solid if unremarkable product. The plot and gameplay are genre basic, the music is simple and repetitive, and the game can be beaten in just a couple hours. But in the realm of indie publishing, these features are more to be commended than held against it. It's no Shovel Knight or The Messenger, but it's not trying to be, and keeping those expectations low was the right decision. If you can get it on sale it's the perfect use of an afternoon.

Secrets are easily found, colors and textures are not easy to look at, and getting hit by enemies who are off-screen is a thing. The pink level, so I don't spoil anything, has a lot of instant death and hopefully you are really good at avoiding obstacles that cause instant level restarts. Good luck, but I do not recommend unless you plan on speedrunning.
I picked up Gunmetal Arcadia Zero after enjoying Gunmetal Arcadia. Much of this review compares the two. If you haven't played Gunmetal Arcadia, I'd recommend you to play that instead. Gunmetal Arcadia Zero is basically a story-based action game with the same basic play mechanics and aesthetics as Gunmetal Arcadia. The largest differences in the gameplay is that the roguelite elements are gone (permadeath is exchanged with a lives counter, no randomized maps) and it is only possible to keep one subweapon at a time. The pace of Gunmetal Arcadia Zero feels kinda slow, with more dialogue and more segments of walking around. The factions don't appear to have as much of an effect in this game (there was some effect, but it felt minimal). Most of the enemies and bosses are shared between the two games. When you beat the game, there is a new game+ where your items carry over, which makes it easy to max out your gear or try different weapons. Honestly, I feel like the pacing of Gunmetal Arcadia Zero was too slow and the game has very little replay value because of it. I would only recommend this to those who played Gunmetal Arcadia looking for the story leading up to it.
Gameplay: 3/10

Graphics & Sound: 4/10

Narration: 3/10
✔️ Minimalistic old school graphics and music that some people might enjoy. ✔️ The game seems to work without issues. ❌ The gameplay gets repetitive pretty fast in my opinion. ❌ Weird decision to make the first basic enemies you meet require to crouch to hit them, leading to peculiar issues such as not being able to hit the most basic enemy while standing on the top of a ladder... ❌ You might need to repeat huge parts of levels on death, that discouraged me from giving it any more time. ❌ The same seems to apply to game reloads - if you leave the game and restart it, you might have to go again through quite a bit of content. ❌ I'm under the impression that once you spend all your lives the game makes you restart from 0...? ❌ Didn't go through a lot of story but it seems very basic and uninspired. I might not be the public for this game, but I just saw no interest in keeping playing it.
good
it's alright. if you know what you're getting into (i didn't), or you mesh with it (i did), it'll be a fun romp. the lives system is pretty unnecessary - there are 1-3 checkpoints per stage and running out of lives takes you to the start of the stage. the platforming is simple with setups but layers on insta-kill spikes the further you go, and so it feels like the system is completely ignored by skilled players and punishes more casual folk for a feature that sounds kinda tacked on, playing fast and loose for the speedrun flows surprisingly well, and the built-in splits are pretty nice
Wow, what a garbage. These "developers" probably never played any platformers in their lives. Just pass.
