[h1]Runs great on Steam Deck and Steam Machine[/h1] Gundroid is an awesome retro-style platformer that homages many classic games but also brings innovative game design and mechanics that are wholly unique. Levels are sometimes side scrolling, sometimes vertical battles, and other times the ground is literally shifting under your feet. But neither is it a run and gun - you’ll be riding cool motorcycles and leaping into their air to dodge fire while miraculously landing back on the bike. There’s also overhead climing mechanics. Gameplay is smooth, levels are fun and the complexity is a nice balance. Beating the first boss was genuinely fulfilling, and enemies can appear from overhead, deeper in the horizon, or from below. You never quite feel safe and it’s really clever mechanics. Strongly recommend for fans of 80’s X’ain D’Sleen, Contra, and other cool platformers.

great game that tries to be more probotector than contra but with some minor annoyances. the jump doesn't feel perfect, if u play a lot of contra then u will get it, it has some weird weight at the end of the jump, but u will get used to it. The weapons could be more and one of them is kinda meh. now this is subjective, but the game drags and overstays it's welcome, mostly at the final stage, you will find yourself saying ''this boss won't quit?'' and i really despise that. also the game is way too hard , so good luck on heard mode. but at least the game is generous with checkpoints and infinite continues. get it on sale, it ain't perfect, the sprite is really weird and proportions feels off a bit for some weird reason, like a chibi figure but it's ok. again, good game, just don't expect a contra level game.

Right from the beginning I got drawn into this high-energy platform shooter. The level-design is very creative, the bosses are exciting and require some skill to react to various patterns. A big part of the gaming experience is also the awesome soundtrack, which feels modernized but at the same time like a big classic already for this game-genre. The levels are challenging, for my personal taste could be even a notch more difficult. Hopefully the option for 2 player gaming will be there soon, looking forward to Sunday afternoon gaming sessions like in the good old times!

It nails that old-school vibe perfectly. Gundroid gets it. From the moment you start playing, it feels like a love letter to the 8- and 16-bit era. The level and sound design are done in solid retro fashion – nothing flashy, just clean, clever, and challenging. Yeah – it’s tough. But the good kind of tough. The kind that makes you say, “One more run,” even if you got destroyed for the 1000th time. Enemies keep you on your toes, and learning their patterns is half the fun. The music is headbanging and energetic, fitting seamlessly with the game’s retro vibe. Huge props to the devs for pulling this off. You can tell it was made with love for the genre – and with a sense of humor, too. Fazit: fun to play. Can’t wait to dive into the 2-player couch co-op.

'Tis a blast! Game style, graphics, sound + music are exactly what we 90's kids know and love! Kudos to the developers for this splendid title and that it's not just a bang for a buck, but coded with love and passion as the main ingredients. 10/10 would buy and gift again! :D
