Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition

Guacamelee! — 7/10 Review I recommend this game as a Metroidvania, though it is quite short. If you are looking for something longer, you should probably play Silksong. Overall, the game is really beautiful, and the story is legendary. I loved how it features two different endings that completely change future events, though I definitely prefer the second ending over the first one. Pros Excellent Story: The plot is very well-done and highly engaging. Combat & Progression: Great variety in combat moves, how you unlock them, and how they are ordered throughout the game. Dimension Swapping: The mechanic of shifting between the World of the Living and the World of the Dead is an absolute blast and adds amazing variety. Decent Music: The soundtrack is nice and fits the theme well. Cons Too Easy: The game is incredibly easy, to an unnatural degree. Even the final boss was a complete walk in the park. Technical Issues: The game has annoying bugs with the save system, and it randomly crashes, kicking you out in the middle of gameplay. Conclusion In conclusion, I hope the second installment is even better, as I am planning to play it next and will drop my review once I finish it. Good metroidvania, brawler combo with occasional precision movement challenges. Love how devoted this is to the theme (Mexican culture/Día de los Muertos). Art and sound direction is spot on. The game itself is a pretty straight forward metroidvania without much searching and backtracking. It will not overstay its welcome. Best played with a friend or friends in couch coop but also ok solo. There is also a part 2 which is great as well.

A unique and fun MV! Went into it with low expectations and was blown away. if nothing else the theme and vibe are strong and it definitely knows what it wants its identity to be!

Liked the music. Even the most cliche of it, jarabe tapatio, is here lol Dodging and fighting esquelitos was fun and entering INTENSO mode is exhilarating. Will have you feeling like nothing can stop you (just don't let it get to your head!). Traversing through the game is quite straightforward, with some puzzling, but clever platforming. Story is sweet, but, to my surprise, has some suggestive themes, which feels outta place. Pues esta muchos bien jugar! EDIT: Wanted to mention that this game kinda gives Shantae vibes. Maybe it's the sassy-ness and level design. I dunno, but Guac' and Shan' are good.

Good quick metroidvania that runs perfectly on deck, and from a Canadian company to boot!

I played this game ages ago as a kid on Playstation when it was temporarily free. I didn't beat in time before the time was up. So I left the game feeling very unfinished. It is very good to come back to the game after so many years and finally play it to completion with a fully developed mind. The many references to video game history is very amusing and comical. The story is very cohesive and easy to follow. Combat and gameplay are often fun and engaging. The game will often introduce a new mechanic or power, teach you how to use it, and almost immediately integrate it in to the platforming and combat. And there are plenty of extra challenges off the beaten path that are completely optional but offer worthwhile rewards. Overall good game. I'm glad it is just as good as I remember.
