Nettes (netter?) Shoot Em Up

Entertaining side scrolling shooter game! Has a neat art style and soundtrack that ties the game together nicely. Variety of difficulties and challenging stages. Lots of hidden upgrades and various secret areas. It felt a little floaty at times but not too bad. If you enjoy shoot em up games you will probably like this one too!
Gryphon Knight Epic is a badly made console ported 2D retro pixel side scrolling shoot 'em up with a medieval fantasy skin on it, and remarkably weak arcade gameplay, resulting in something that has absolutely no value whatsoever for gamers. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. To make matters worse, there's no mouse input, despite this being sold on PC as if it were a PC game. This is unacceptable and somewhat insulting to PC gamers. It's a good demonstration of the poor attitude the developer has towards PC gamers, and this attitude has resulted in yet another defect in this game. PC gamers will be insulted by the demand from the developer that a console peasant children's toy controller should be used, despite this being on PC. Developers should try to be aware which platform they're developing for, and must never, under any circumstances dictate to gamers how their games are to be experienced. Because this is designed for consoles, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the inferior console gaming appliances that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate compromises and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was a second thought for the console-centric developers. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for consoles forces upon a game. Once more, console peasants have made gaming worse for everyone. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Gryphon Knight Epic didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for getting a 50 point combo, trivial to get, but less than 24 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only appears around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. Gryphon Knight Epic has the preposterous price of $10 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. That's right, the developer thinks this is better than Wolfenstein: New Order and Frostpunk and similar games, and thus priced this garbage higher than those quality games. This is also competing with over 9,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.
Introduction (3.5/5): "Gryphon Knight Epic," developed by Cyber Rhino Studios and released in 2015, is a shoot 'em up game that pays homage to classic side-scrolling shooters. With its retro-inspired visuals, challenging gameplay, and a touch of fantasy, the game aims to capture the spirit of old-school arcade shooters. Graphics and Presentation (3.5/5): The game adopts a pixel art style that evokes nostalgia for classic arcade shooters. The character and enemy designs are well-crafted, and the environments showcase a variety of themes, from medieval castles to enchanted forests. While the graphics don't push modern boundaries, they effectively capture the retro aesthetic the game aims for. Gameplay Mechanics (3.5/5): "Gryphon Knight Epic" features classic shoot 'em up mechanics, with players controlling a knight mounted on a gryphon. The controls are responsive, and the game introduces various power-ups and weapons to enhance the shooting experience. The classic side-scrolling action is complemented by boss battles and a variety of enemy types. Level Design (3.5/5): The game offers diverse and well-designed levels, each with its own unique challenges and enemies. From intense boss fights to swarms of adversaries, the level design keeps the gameplay engaging. The introduction of new enemies and obstacles throughout the game provides a sense of progression. Weapons and Upgrades (3/5): Players can upgrade their weaponry and gryphon mount, enhancing their abilities as they progress. The variety of weapons and power-ups adds strategic depth to the gameplay, allowing players to adapt to different challenges. While the upgrade system is solid, it may not offer the same level of complexity found in some other shoot 'em up titles. Difficulty and Challenge (4/5): "Gryphon Knight Epic" embraces the challenging difficulty often associated with classic shooters. The game requires precision and quick reflexes to navigate through swarms of enemies and defeat formidable bosses. While not groundbreaking, the audio elements effectively enhance the overall atmosphere. Story and Characters (2.5/5): The narrative in "Gryphon Knight Epic" is minimal, focusing on the knight's quest to rescue his wife from a powerful sorceress. While the story serves as a basic premise for the action, it lacks depth and character development, with the primary focus on the shooting gameplay. Replayability (3/5): The game offers moderate replayability, particularly for fans of the shoot 'em up genre. Players can revisit levels to improve their scores, discover hidden secrets, and experiment with different weapon combinations. While it may not have the same depth as some modern titles, it provides a satisfying arcade experience. Overall (3.3/5): "Gryphon Knight Epic" successfully captures the essence of classic shoot 'em up games with its retro-inspired visuals and challenging gameplay. While the story and character elements are minimal, the focus on intense shooting action, diverse levels, and challenging bosses makes it an enjoyable experience for fans of the genre. While it may not revolutionize the shooter genre, it provides a solid and nostalgic journey for those seeking a throwback to classic arcade gaming.
If Don Quixote had a brother this game would be it.
Nice but slow paced with not auto fire, shoot'em up. At least it start like that and that is enough to critic. You will spend your time pressing a button to fire slow bullets and not feeling any impact nor satisfaction while destroying your targets. It is so slow that you have the time to press fire button much more times than bullets can be fired. I played 10mn then fired the game from my disk. That was quick. And not recommended.
Um shoot’em up brasileiro com uma arte linda e um desafio competente, alem de contar a livre exploração dos cenários. O game é relativamente curto. com certeza vale a pena dar uma chance.
