It's broken. * The mouse cursor goes invisible at random times, good luck navigating any menus. * There's very little in the way of settings, not even fullscreen / windowed. * The title screen looks like it was thrown together out of random Unity assets. * One video in particular has the slogan "Hot Tacos" painted over the top digitally with "Combat" for no discernible reason and it looks terrible. * Worst of all, there's an unkillable enemy in the first act. Texas Feed something or other, woman with a red shirt and cowboy hat, bottom right corner of the scene. No matter how many times you click her, she doesn't die. There are multiple enemies that seem to have problems with collision boxes, but this one is just borked.
I'd already seen the work and vast improvements in picture quality with Screaming Villain's re-releases of Night Trap and Double Switch, so I was itching to get my hands on Ground Zero Texas! As a fan of this on SegaCD back in the 90's, it is super fun to re-visit this again and see this game in all its glory, as it was probably intended (and not 64 colours at 12fps). The video and audio is as good as it's ever going to get, and it feels like the original game thanks to the painstaking programming by Tyler and Screaming Villains. Being able to unlock each scene in the game in a video library in the Bonus Content gives this "replayability", making me want to go back and play again to catch the scenes I missed the first time round. It's also fantastic to see footage of the crew in the unlockable behind-the-scenes clips (crew safety briefings from July 93, explaining the explosives and stunts. As well as seeing DiSalvo, Reece and Mathews casually sat around reading newspapers!). There's also some test footage which was really interesting to see. As someone who works in Production, it's super interesting to get to see the crew, their equipment and set-ups, and some B-roll footage. A treasure trove of information, and I'm glad it was all included (with or without audio!). There have been some bumps. Players experiencing game crashes, curser disappearing, hits not registering, Total Kills counter resetting for example. However some of these bugs and glitches were worked out within hours. A small update a few days after release fixed access to some of the videos which weren't unlocking, and a dramatic reduction in game crashes. I expect the team will work on more bugs as they are spotted and reported. Games may be tested internally, but there's nothing quite like the variety of machines and set-ups hundreds of players have at home which may cause some issues. Give the developers the time, and I'm sure they'll work through them. Overall I am super pleased to See Ground Zero Texas in all its glory. The original cast and crew should be proud that it's being re-released, and Screaming Villains deserve praise for perseverance in painstakingly putting the game back together from scratch.
The Best B-Movie you ever played.
This game is broken. For me it runs fine, sure, but watch that ESC button as it'll just quit your game, no menu. Bigger issue, though, is the major game-breaking bug of the hit-boxes being woefully inaccurate near the edges of the screen, as in you can have the crosshair smack dab in the middle of the box, fire away for hours, and not register as hitting your target.....at all! This has been reported and reported and reported in the discussion tab of the game page, and no reply from the devs at all. Many people have supposedly praised the devs for awesome remasters of other old school FMV titles, but at this point, this feels like a rip-off since they have done NOTHING to patch this game since release. IF they ever do patch and fix this and any other bugs, then maybe I'll change my review. Until then......this game is broken. DO NOT BUY.
This seems to be a remastered version of Ground Zero Texas, an old and goofy sci-fi western full-motion video (FMV) shooter. The FMV shooter genre was popular in the 90s, but it something we don't anymore these days. Sure, the acting is bad, story is silly, repetitive scenes, and there are a few technical glitches like mouse cursor disappearing, but this game can be very entertaining... especially, if you have a light gun, and you're old school. You may also see some "familiar faces" in the game.
Great FMV game, horrible release. The game is broken and prone to crash and include several game breaking bugs that make it impossible to complete without starting a new game and praying it won't happen a second time. For the absurd asking price just watch a youtube play through and move your mouse around and you can say you beat it
If you're a fan of B-movies, well, this is a B-game in all its glory. Cheesy premise, cheesy acting, and whilst gameplay does get very repetitive toward the end, this game was originally released in 1993 and was a big technical achievement for its time, as well as a large-scale FMV production. I always have a spot soft for these kinds of games, as well as the SEGA CD in general, Objectively not a great game, especially by today's standards, but it's a unique project that has a lot of personality to it. Really depends what you're looking for, but I love the early 90's kitsch.
dont buy,, wont load,, wont launch,, requested refund ;( i love fmv and this is right up my ally breaks my heart
I really wanted to like this game but unfortunately the release is incredibly broken. Hitboxes do not work which can sometimes halt progress, random mouse disappearing, sometimes footage plays at the wrong speed leading to slow enemies or tinny audio. Until this game is patched avoid it
