EDIT: I am only writing this for other people to make sure they know if they ever stumble on this game. The studio fell apart, they didn't get a publisher to pick them up, so the team disbanded. Why the game is still being sold at this point is beyond me, but I wouldn't bother. Please take that into consideration. The original review remains below: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grim tranquility has a lot potential! You can definitely see they've worked hard, and I only hope they keep going to polish and improve the game, and finish. Pros: -Good world building and design. -Good music. -A decently planned combat system, with an interesting amount of unique buffs and debuffs. -For a team based game, it feels like they could make a lot of combinations of possibly suitable teams, not just a core cutout of 2 melee, 1 range, 1 healer, if they expand on that. Cons: -The UI could use a bit of a tweak. Mostly in that you can't get info on what debuffs currently do, such as Spit or Fur Coating, without really keeping an eye out and checking the before and after of them. Also, if you mouse over your character's stats in the top left during a fight, the description goes behind the rest of the UI on the right. -The game doesn't quite do a lot to tell you how certain elements of the game work. You can figure it out, but you kinda wish they just had a brief window of it, like "Hey, here's your stats." "Hey, here's the initiative.", "If you see a red symbol on the tiles it means this." (I still didn't figure out what that did, but I haven't played much, maybe it's for being detected?" -The final boss for what's currently available, as he's designed now, isn't very engaging. He'll run up on your team in a turn, and then start throwing bombs out that explode. Which is honestly a cool mechanic. It could really make a balancing act of having to damage him, and avoid the bombs simultaneously. That didn't happen for me though. He DID run up, he DID throw bombs, but every turn after the first barrage, the bombs never got thrown anywhere near the players. And since we were already in a corner, there was little need to actually avoid them. He kept throwing them in spots where they were NEVER an issue. I think I'd just consider tweaking the targeting for those, so you're forced to consider their positions more. Do you run, or do you get the damage in? All in all, I say get the game if you like strategy roguelikes, if you like sci-fi, if you like cute mascot creatures, and you wanna support a fresh developer. We NEED more of that in the video game industry. Too many times do we see developers that wanna try stuff that we don't see as much of, or just put their own spin on what's been done, but they don't get enough support to warrant it. I say, give these guys a chance. They deserve that much.
This game was abandoned at launch. Don't buy it.
EA TBT roguelite + spin + potential = Adventure and survive through the sci-fi world with a team of 4. Complete missions, buy gear and more. Spin the wheel before each stage for buffs or enemy buffs. I absolutely love this game. I have been enjoying playing it as its Sci-Fi Story pulls you in and keeps you there as you battle monsters in this Turn based tactical RougeLite RPG. spinning the wheel before each run that can be in your favor or grievously against your favor makes each run different, difficult , and entertaining. Congratulations to PTG for their first game ever and I cant wait to see what more they do with it.
I'm recommending this game because i do think there is a lot of potential here!! But i do think the price for what your getting in early access currently is a bit steep. The game has a great foundation but lacks a lot finish. The early access portion only takes 3 hours to complete with little to no replay-ability. Overall the game needs more content and lots of patching. That being said i did purchase the game and am hoping to see a lot more because i DO like what i see. Good Luck Guys
