About
Part dungeon crawler, part choose-your-own-adventure book, Grim Quest blends turn-based combat and roguelike mechanics with the kind of written storytelling and worldbuilding you'd expect from a solo tabletop campaign, all the while respecting your time. If you love getting lost in dark fantasy worlds, this one has plenty to get lost in, even in short, bit-sized sessions.

"When the Dark closes in, your own mind is your worst enemy..."
Welcome to Ashborne, an ancient city teetering on the brink of destruction and madness. Take control of one of its many hired mercenaries, and shape the city's destiny alongside your own.
Explore the ruins of a fallen civilization and, at the same time, plumb the hidden depths of your own mind to face your inner demons. Uncover sinister secrets of the Dark, a mysterious force that ended an era of prosperity. What will you find amidst all that horror and desolation? Do you even know what you're looking for?
"
"Mundane human failings eat at the core of Ashborne from within, just as the hordes of eldritch horrors, shaped by subconscious thoughts of its own inhabitants, besiege it from without."

12 hours in on Nightmare difficulty with a gun with poison build with some magic to complete the build (level 14 with Lynx), managed to kill the Orc Chieftain and damn, the need of items in theese boss fights is crazy, had to use 3 or 4 60 hp heals to be able to kill the boss, the game is amazing and worth the money ,on steam deck I do get not unfortunately do not get any sound, Idk if is a bug or not but other than that is perfect, wish there were more items like ,after you kill the orc boss you can find more powerfull items in the shop or something ,maybe a revolver with 3 damage and 2 armor pierce or something, or armor with higher stats than the ones you could get in the begining
It's an extremely simple game loop and the mechanics couldn't possibly be more basic. In the early/mid 2000's, I wrote games for myself in Visual Basic 6 which weren't all that much different than this, and if you have done any hobbyist level programming, you'll think the same. Still though, it's clean. The balance seems good. Graphically it does what it needs to do. And it goes on sale, I bought this for like a dollar and at that price it's nothing, it's no choice at all. Is it worth full price? Not sure I'd go that far, myself. But it's worth picking up. The demo is a spot on representation of what you're getting. How you feel about the demo will be how you feel about the game, so give that a try.

I used to play this game on mobile back when I was doing my military service (because it's free on mobile and it's good for a mobile game). I really liked it back then so I decided to reward the creator with 5 bucks on the Steam version. Turns out it wasn't just "good for a mobile game", it's actually good - I sank a few hours on PC too! It's a very good game, especially considering it was an effort by 1 guy.
I REALLY WANT to like this game. I'm trying, F-ing trying. Even playing on mobile. This game has no chill, it will continue to get harder even if you're struggling to advance your character. There is no option to grind, or to level up before progressing. I was doing the same dungeon level, without exiting (which progresses the dungeon's level), in an attempt to fortify my character. Surprise, the dungeon (same level) got harder and just started killing me anyway (as did an adjacent dungeon I was not even leveling). F this F-ing game, give me a way to grind or advance. A game that feels like being shoved off a cliff in slow motion is not fun.
very nice classic grimdark quest rpg 9/10

Written at 3hrs played. Fantastic game for people who enjoy a dungeon crawling experience reminiscent of something between D&D and darkest dungeon. Really scratches that itch for old school fantasy RPG's. They have random events that i think really makes you want to play into whatever that event currently is (for example, all items sold are sold at a higher value). If you are like me, you can start a round on permadeath setting to really get attached to your run, to just die 15 mins later.
In a graphic-maniac 3A-dominant gaming world, this game brought me back to 40 year ago. Very nice nostalgia, and very addictive.
very good
Cool turn-based RPG game. It focuses on dungeon adventuring and slowly getting stronger while simultaneously getting more difficult dungeons and unlocking new dungeons. Expect many hours to beat this game. I've played 34h and have done somewhere beteween 30-50%. I enjoy it so I can definitely recommend it :)
