A game with many interesting concepts which either aren't fully explored or aren't executed well enough to remain entertaining past a few hours. I wish it'd had more time in development or simply a full expansion to flesh out the ideas. My playtime is from a previous playthrough around the time the game released, I recently replayed and then wrote this review.
Campaign
The campaign has a cliché but fine story about a spooky unnamed threat which you keep assuming is the next thing you encounter. The objectives and map variety are good but the balance holds it back; It results in the optimal way to complete missions being turtle-expansion until you have 4-6 extractors and then just wait until you can max-pop your army and steamroll the map. This is partly due to defences being so strong but also because units are so easy to kill/lose regardless of faction. As a result every level is 15m of sitting around and then 5m of action before you repeat on the next. The Goo levels are even worse for this as they have pitiful collection speeds for resources even with multiple 'Mother's harvesting.
Conclusion
I wanted to like this game but by halfway through the goo campaign I was just bored, it was sitting around and just wasting time more than actually playing the game. The Skirmish AI is okay but can be brutal for new players. Multiplayer I didn't try and have little interest in. TLDR: Interesting concept held back by flawed design, only get on sale. The DLC is only 3 missions, so again sale only.

While it was not the easiest game to initially learn, once you get the hang of it, it can be pretty fun. I didn't enjoy the way it played as much compared to C&C games, but the story kept me going and was worth the price I paid for the game being on sale. Worth trying if you like RTS games.
The physics is great! The micro is great! The macro is great! The faction balance is great! The multiplayer is great! Grey Goo is the best RTS game I've played since the early 2000s for these reasons. If you like to focus on unit and building management and don't care about a complex economy, Grey Goo is essential!

This game is awesome. Just wish there were more updates and DLCs
Multiplayer is dead. There are maybe 10 people playing the game at any given time, and all of them are just playing single-player. The campaign is interesting and the races are cool, I especially like playing as the Goo, but when you beat the campaign (its a decent length, but you could beat it in a dedicated night) there is nothing else worth playing. I don't think the campaign has much replay value. The different difficulty levels don't actually change the AI's strategy after Very Hard mode once the AI is given full map vision, it just makes their units stronger and harder to kill which isn't very rewarding. Game had potential, but now I would just recommend sticking with StarCraft2.
Overall a decent RTS game the campaign is fun going through all the different factions and becoming familiar with their unique styles of play. The game does feel a bit slower than games like Age of Empires II or Supreme Commander. The factions are do feel a bit too restrictive with the Beta being the exception. I wouldn't recommend this game to beginners just because the slower gameplay requires a bit more deliberate actions to be taken in order for you to not fall too behind in the battles.
Good StarCraft type game - good for fans of RTS. Campaign is challenging but achievable - on normal at least.
I will be honest. I expected more from them. From what I recall, this has some of the heads of Command and Conquer working on it. I understand that there is scope creep and RTS is on life support. So I know how hard it was to even make this game. So I am torn. So I ask myself, did they do the best with what they got? I know I have practically no information, but I am going to go with no. That being said, for the RTS simps like me. You have to buy. It is our curse.
Way too slow for my taste. Managed to finish 1 campaign mission and dropped it near end of 2nd one. It takes ages to destroy any building, I have absolutely no clue which units are which, it's C&C style of "create large groups of units, send them to fight". Except in C&C combat is fast, units and building both die fast and it's a go-go-go. Grey goo meanwhile is go-wait a minute to destroy building-go-wait a minute-go...just, boring.
