Graveyard Keeper is a shoddily made and incredibly cynical game that somehows makes you completely addicted with its empty gameplay loop. First of, graveyard keeping will be probably be the thing you actually do the least in the game. It's only used as a progression gating and once you've unlocked the last level of the church (which really is quite easy to do), you basically won't need to touch the graveyard ever again except for if you want to decorate it; at which point, if you do things properly, you graveyard won't even be half filled, making the extension very useless. It's filled with time gated fetch quests. The game time revolves around a 6 days structure in which a different story-important NPC will show up, and they are completely unavailable on the other 5 days. I don't think I need to tell you why that's rubbish, as the way the progression is made it's very common for one of their quests to not be completable on your current week and the only tasks you can do to be several days away.... so you wait and skip time. The game has many little systems that really do not interract or synergyses well with each other. Cooking becomes entirely irrelevant as soon as you can make wine. Lower quality seeds are a waste of time with how incredibly easy it is to acquire the highest quality ones. The game offers you many ways to mass produce items, with huge storage for that, but there's really no real reason to do so, and weirdly enough the part you'd REALLY want to be able to be mass produced just... can't (you can't queue multiple high quality items for some reason....) The story is kind of nothing, just very generic NPC stories without much interesting twists. It's so cynical and constantly pokes fun at itself in a way that screams "we can't write stories so let's make dumb Marvel-level commentary and do some cheap pop culture reference". Was this game made by balding, crusty old men? The DLCs are also quite a doozy. Not only was automation locked behind the first Breaking Bad DLC (which is free on Steam but NOT on other platforms, so a very scummy move), other DLCs also introduces some more very basic QoL features that you can only access so late they're not even useful anymore (why are bags locked behind the end of Game of Crones.... the most resource heavy DLC) Indeed I can't imagine how grindy the game would be without Breaking Bad, as otherwise you'd have to spend so much of your limited time cutting dozens of trees to make what you need. Stranger Sins is probably the most terrible, being nothing but fetch quests, and the tavern simulation side being almost completely irrelevant to those. Lastly, the game is just so amateurishly made. So many bugs (with a few still unfixed big ones), weird quirks, and still unused content that shows a complete contempt towards people playing their game. Lazy Bear Games is an apt name, since those people just can't be arsed to do anything with any amount of effort. So much in fact, they've been found of using AI for their sequel game, big nope! It must really suck to be an artist for this studio, because the art is the one thing that (mostly) very polished about this game. Somehow this game couldn't even consistently run at 60fps on my machine! What the hell! It's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 2D pixel game, there is no reason for this. Graveyard Keeper is truly the game at the bottom of the bargain bin, cheap and corporate, and without an once of love or care put into it. Even the end of the game pokes fun at itself by saying how they'll make some bucks over some DLC.... I'm glad I got it for free! Would've felt bad wasting money on top of time for this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ sudio
It's like Stardew Valley but harder and more structured so you're always busy.
Absolutely worth the 68 hours of my life to be a busy graveyard keeper!
Not for the faint of heart. Blood, sweat, and tears went into this. Grinding needed. 10/10. Can't wait for GK2.
I enjoyed the game, will probably play some of the DLCs, but I do have a few gripes with it. The writing feels off, doesn't really make any of the characters actually feel human, and some of the jokes just don't really land for me. The gameplay is pretty solid and the routine is cozy, definitely nice if you want to shut down your brain for a sec, but the combat is pretty underwhelming. Overall, it's not particularly spectacular, but it scratches a similar itch to Stardew Valley and similar games, which I quite enjoyed.
Acho que coveiro não faz isso não...
Amazing humor, gore wrapped in a cozy game. Be ready to refer wiki a lot!
