It was a long journey, but I very much enjoyed it and look forward to the sequel. There's issues with the game, sure, but it's pretty unique for what it is and if you like Stardew Valley and are okay with some darker humor, this might be fore you.
I had many good things to say about this game until I reached what I would consider the late game when I encountered the Sisyphean task of the Mrs Charm-Astrologer-Vagner quest. I was really charmed my this game from the start. It's really addictive and while very grindy I didn't mind it at all. I liked how at the start it really nicely leads you from one thing to the next, so the progression feels pretty intuitive. Unfortunately this sort of fails once you unlock alchemy. I have no clue how to discover the recipes without the wiki, you can buy them from the witch I guess but like... money. Now the moment of doom - I'm not sure if this was a skill issue or something, but I genuinely hated this bit of the game. After Vagner gets captured you go to the Astrologer for help - so you wait for the moon day. He wants a silver star book, got it, he tells you to come back next week. You do that, he asks for a gold star book which I couldn't get that day because I didn't have the supplies, so I wasted another week waiting for him to show up again. Only for him to tell me to come back another week later. It has been 4 in game weeks, and I was officially losing it. My graveyard was full, all technologies unlocked, cathedral fully upgraded, half of my activities automated and no other quests to attend to. So I just sat there?? Insufferable part of the game honestly and kinda bummed me out especially after so many hours of getting invested and at this point being dedicated to finishing it. Overall fun game but then again I got it when it was free, and I'm not sure how I would feel if I bought it full price.
I've seen a lot of negative reviews based on the DLC and honestly I don't understand the hate. The absurdism absolutely hits and the gameplay is really satisfying. A little repetitive at times but there is enough meat on the bones in world-building and silly little character arcs to see you through. Highly recommend.
