It all starts in Liberty City. With revolutionary freedom to go anywhere and jack anyone, Grand Theft Auto III puts the center of the criminal underworld at your fingertips, if you have enough guts to take it.

Bad remaster, not recommended- no checkpoint system, too many bugs, bad character models and mediocre mission design.
I feel like some people need to learn the difference between a "remaster" and a "remake". Too many people are picking this trilogy up expecting a total overhaul instead of a few QOL changes and a graphical facelift. Make no mistake, this is the fault of the consumer for not researching prior to purchase and realising that a remaster is totally different to a remake, not R* or T2. That being said, the game still runs like garbage and they dropped the ball majorly with optimization. Considering this looks like a modern mobile game that's unacceptable. If you pick the trilogy up, be sure to turn Planar off, turn view distance down to high/medium, and just keep everything at high. Planar and ultra settings makes the framerate drop all around the place and stutter, especially at 4K. Rockstar consistently seem to drop the ball with PC optimization. Most of the things that make GTA III rough by today's standards are still here. The cars are still made of paper, the steering is still stiff, Claude is also still made of paper, missions are still extremely linear, and the game is still a poorly paced slog. The QOLs are more for the shooting mechanics and on foot movement. No changes were made to the driving or health. Now the R* Launcher. Yes, it's essential for this game too. More data to sign away because R* know they can and people will complain, but ultimately remain complacent because they made GTA and RDR. Enough has been said about the R* Launcher, but it's essential for even this. It's a shame you cannot but these games separately or buy their original versions anymore. GTA III just feels like it's here because it would feel weird to release remasters for just Vice City and San Andreas, but it's here anyways.
While the Definitive Edition of these classic GTA games has been a bit lacking, in the sense of at launch there were various poorly AI upscaled textures and such, I have always thought that GTA III benefited the most from the upgrade. Worth your time today, not the BEST way to experience this masterpiece, but it runs great and has the same charm.
Ignore all the negative reviews. It’s a great remake of the original game and honestly some of the quality of life features can make it better than the original. I haven’t encountered a single bug and everything runs really smoothly. A great remaster of the original.
Rockstar Games requires you to sign into your Social Club account, and despite having one for twenty years, they refuse to actually send me the verification code to access my account. Had to ask for a refund.
I honestly cannot rate this game as bad, even if in this day and age it isn't great. But when this came out in 2001, it was insane, just absolutely mental. There wasn't a game like it, and as a teenager, it was the perfect time to be playing it. I remember System of a Down's "Toxicity" had released a month before, so we'd be blaring that in my brother's room while we played this game. I also remember that the Dodo was supposed to be flyable, but due to 9/11, they clipped the wings, either out of respect or pressure from their publisher. I would say as far as the Definitive Edition goes, this was the best of the lot, but that's not saying much. There were a lot of bugs and perf issues. They missed the opportunity to modernize this, just like remake it in the GTA V engine, and you'd be golden, but they didn't, so here we are. I almost wish I had left the member berries alone and not played it, but like I said, because it's GTA III, I can't rate this bad. If you're like me and played the original 1/4 of a century ago, don't play this version. Just keep that memory there.
Don't get the hate for the DE. I know when it first launched it was a mess!! But now everything runs super smooth, no issues with glitches or crashing at all!! Way better to just get in and play vs the original games (which i also own and are a nightmare to get working). Game looks pretty good, is a decent upgrade on the original. Great game - Youtube review dropping soon!
Grand Theft Auto III is a historic game as one of the first open world games ever back in 2001. Claude is a memorable silent protagonist and the story moves nicely. Although it is the weakest 3D GTA game in my opinion, it is still worth picking up for the sake of experiencing a classic open world game.
