Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.14/day in the week to Sep 3 → 1/day in the week after.
Too few observations to say whether a discount moves this store's chart at all: across the last 30 days Steam · Top Sellers · Poland has just 17 day-to-day chart moves that followed a price cut, against 2,502 that did not. We are publishing the count instead of a direction — 20 is the fewest we will draw a conclusion from, and price collection outside the United States began on 6 August 2026.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About

Choose your side in the American Civil War: Real-time campaign, spanning from Secession to the end of the war, with historical objectives for both sides.
Five campaign scenarios (Pre-War, 1861, 1862, 1863, 1864) and twenty (20) stand-alone battles from 1st Manassas in 1861 to Appomattox Court House in 1865.
Change history: What if European superpowers intervened to end the war, or Lincoln lost the presidential election of 1864?
Scott’s Great Snake: Lay siege, raid and blockade your enemy on land and sea or use blockade runners to keep the life-lines to Europe open.
From Fort Sumter to Appomattox: Watch closely the morale of your citizens and troops. As the war drags on, fervor turns to fatigue, the treasury threatens to run dry, and measures like drafting will cause unrest.
Keep the armies marching: Build and manage the flow of supplies to your armies. Utilize and expand railroad lines to supply and move armies for the first time in history!
Pivotal battles: Fight battles lasting multiple days on historical battlefields. Use engineers to build pontoons and dig trenches, see reinforcements change the tide and commit your reserves to defeat the enemy.
Grant vs. Lee: Manage hundreds of historical commanders with personal attributes and specialization. Famous commanders inspire soldiers and citizens alike and loss of reputation can be irreparable.
Command Great Armies: Huge armies of infantry, cavalry and artillery, with realistic command structures and historical Order of Battle.
Bring the Civil War to life: Amazing Civil War re-enactment and combat footage from LionHeart FilmWorks, and an original soundtrack of old time music and drum and fife band.Updates

Good game overall, worth a try, have been debating whether to do a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ "meme" review for this game, but i decided against it since i have things to say, its a bit buggy but never enough to ruin the experience, just keep a backup save every 3 months if you want to be super cautious, The game is easy as the Union (because of the damned mississippi river) but playing as the CSA requires a certain balance between knowing when to accept lost ground and when to load up an old save, in other words, your going to get your teeth kicked in for the first few campaigns as you learn to cope with the human ocean hurling down your lanes 24/7 as you hold out praying for an early winter so you can sit your ass down and start replenishing your brigades with starving drafties, i havent played so much but the farthest i made it as CSA was mid 1862 before i hung the hat up because the ocean got to steal me bloody capital that was in Alabama and my morale dropped so far i couldnt cope anymore

Save your money. This feels clunky and unresponsive. You'll spend over an hour in the tutorial if you read everything and locate each menu item. That being said , good luck remembering where or what things are. The "character creation" adds a slight element of rpg and the feel of control. For me, that's where it ended. Waiting for nearly 30 minutes real time or more for orders to come from the commander just to be able to move my regiment (since I didn't start with any prestige) isn't really my idea of fun. Initially I thought this was perhaps an updated version of North and South that I used to enjoy in 1990-ish. Nope. Just a poor attempt at Crusader Kings with a United States Civil War twist. I actually enjoy Crusader Kings. It captures my imagination and allows full control from the get go. Even though it also is basically just a map with story elements.
Grand Tactician Civil War is easily the best ACW strategy game ever made, and is one of the best strategy games of its era on sale on Steam ATM. The game's core is excellent, it generates great battles, captures the spirit, strategy, and technological challenges of the ACW, and is easily replayable. It is not without faults, the graphics at times look dated and when you zoom in the models are poor (sprites, here, would have been a much better choice). The terrain is ugly, and can sometimes be unclear as to sight lines. And the research/economics/grand strategy aspect of the strategic layer ranges from clumsy (research and general UI) to down right inscrutable (economics). But that is easy to get past. Once you understand how the game works, you realize that moving armies on the map is easy but impactful. Depriving the enemy of rail lines and strategic points actually matters. And the random battle generator is one of the best I've ever seen, it manages to give you a map that always feels fresh, feels true to the strategy map situation you found yourself in, *and yet* provides enough grounding for the AI to put you into some tricky spots. Again is it perfect, no. Like Total War you can bully the AI and throw too many choices at it to fast. But in a weird way, if you put yourself into the shoes of Grant and Meade and fight in the manner they did in the 19th century, you actually can generate interesting battles where the AI feels like it has a real chance of beating you. And thats what youre really buying this game for. Like with Total War, its a game to give you cool battles where you maneuver your little dudes against an AI with enough of a brain to make it hard for you. And GTACW does that for you. Your armies feel your own, feel customized, you feel like you direct the war in a way you choose, and produce an outcome which fits into the realm of the plausible. And the game totally nails this vibe. Easy recommend for any fan of historic strategy gaming.
There are so many bugs. I fought a 5 day battle, inspected the battle field and couldn't leave it because the button I needed to leave was gone.
Very realistic just hard to get the hang of at first
Pretty solid game , little to almost no bugs aside from small little visual bugs but nothing game breaking, its pretty involved with quite the learning curve to economys and policy research. Great for people looking for a challenge.
The AI of my own side in Career Mode is always so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid and incompetent and idiotic and the enemy, despite being at a disadvantage in every category wins because my own side seems to love picking only battles that it will lose and those minor loses obliterate the national morale and then Lincoln gets voted out even if the war is still evenly matched and then other times the unit that I'm a part of stands five millimeters outside of the range of assisting in a battle where it could turn the tide or something a unit immediately retreats out of a battle in spite of being Stable in morale and at good readiness so what the ♥♥♥♥ is going on? As for the normal campaign, enemy armies just move THROUGH my defending armies and head straight through washington and ♥♥♥♥ up everything in the far north (which somehow gives them super bonus mega morale points) while nothing happens when I capture Richmond and Petersburg.
This is one of the best Civil War games out there. It's fun, but it could definitely be better or improve.
Best line infantry game I've played since Napoleon Total War, and a must for any Civil War fan.
