Grand Prix Story

It's an older Kairosoft joint, sir, but it checks out. If you're not familiar, they do a line in cosy old-skool JRPG-infused games in various styles, This one's a motor-racing team management sim with, er, JRPG-styled elements. You know, use various XP and skills points to improve your team, driver and facilities to earn more XP and skills. If that sounds pretty simplistic well, it kinda is but it's also wonderfully addictive and actually pretty deep in the amount of things you can earn, tweak and improve upon, and as such keeps you occupied and happy for a long time. As is the nature of such things, you're only one more race away from that next big tweak, that new perk or that big race that'll change your fortunes for sure! It follows the formula really neatly so don't be too surprised if you lazy-one-hand-click so far that you just gotta see it through. And there are ways for the smart to utilise the various upgrades and perks in juuuust the right order to speed through even more efficiently (by smart I mean checking on the internet) or like me you can enjoy the gently soporific experience of just slowly grinding to the very last challenge with the very best equipment in about 25 hours (including achievements) or so, like I did. A very nice and cosy game, that's extremely good at what it does.

Genuinely charming with just the right amount of gameplay depth for when you're not in the mood to micromanage a driver during their race

What a wonderful game. Easy to play but such an addictive gameplay loop. The limied time you have for a score after 14 years is genius and keeps you wanting to try different strategies. It reminds me of Sid Meiers Pirates in this way. For £6 it really is a no brainer. Way more fun than the mess that is F1 manager 2022, and 1/6th of the price.

However I found this title sometime in 2012 I believe, and got hooked for a while. I never ended up completing and then completely forgot about it, until it popped up on my Steam (games you might be interest in category) When I saw Kairosoft bring their collection to Steam I realised that was a great opportunity to check out their other games on the big screen, as I really enjoy the style of this Japanese companies games. Grand Prix Story is a charming but challenging management sim. Build up the team from humble beginnings to having multiple cars, mechanics and drivers. 挺好玩的，不过操作技巧很多，挺麻烦的，我本来想重温一下，但是玩得好累，就这样吧，此外，感觉本地化有点过度了，我记得以前玩的时候初始地图是在日本的，现在硬生生挪到中国了，就不太对味，而且北京站放个鸟居，多奇怪啊

I LOVE Kairosoft games, this one is just boring. All you do is level up drivers and mechanics and then watch your cars race. The points needed for leveling up don't accumulate very fast, so you basically just do the same thing over and over again until you have enough points to level up and research new items, then do it all over again. No fun design element, no real engagement of any kind. Super, super grindy and I can tell it's going to take forever to get all the achievements. Not a fan of this one at all.

This game is addictive, i repeat: WARNING THIS GAME IS ADDICTING!! If you like Motorsport management sims on the casual then this game is for you, however once you start getting into GPs and upgrading then it becomes addicting. 4/5 because my wife told me not play this game in bed 😆😆😆 later 🤙🏾
