About
You are a Living Spark surviving inside fragile wooden vessels that splinter, collapse, and catch fire. When your vessel breaks, the Spark escapes. Death is just a change of scenery.
Ride a cursed elevator into shifting underground ruins with your crew. Smash furniture for resources or feed them into the Grinder for gold. If everyone breaks, your loot is lost.
Trolling can become your friend’s demise. Dropkick enemies or “accidentally” launch your ally’s Spark out of their vessel. Block them in a monster-infested corridor or get stuck in the crossfire. Will your group handle the chaos you created yourselves?
The deeper you go, the worse the Rot becomes. Bodies warp. Voices distort. Emotes become…worse. Or possibly better?
The Deep Layers are filled with Corrupted vessels, reacting to sound, movement, and each other in ways that are impossible to predict. Fight. Build. Run. Panic.
When your vessel breaks, you stay in the run as a Spark. Guide your team through the dark and search for another host with a new set of abilities. Force your way back in before you fade out completely.
Everything you haul back rebuilds your Outpost. Unlock interactive furniture, stat upgrades, rescued survivors, and stranger ways to survive the next descent. The stronger the outpost becomes, the deeper you can afford to go.
Go deeper. Extract more. Leave someone behind. Make it back and build together.
Or don’t come back at all.

fun
It's fun to play with friends!
I got this game just as the twitch drop ended, sadly missing out on great items. However, I have been enjoying this game a lot. I get home from work and can either grind at a deep layer or build without having some wild card time or forced online co op. This game is truly in my top favorites, no I dont care that it released as a 1.0 . It is pretty polished in comparison to cp2077 at launch. There are things missing and it does seem like the Dev's are doing something about it. It would be nice to claim the buildings in the desert to also build in. Core gameplay is kinda dull, but that doesnt mean its a bad thing. I actually love it because i can enjoy a quick session without the worry of "Did i save before this?" or "Another pay to win/play" or even having paid loot boxes. To the Dev's I thank you and hope that future content actually happens, unlike some games... *ahem CB2077 multiplayer ahem*

Grain Rot is a strange mix of horror and extraction shooter, but it pulls from both sides very well. Initially I did not expect much from the game- the name is a play on "Brain Rot" and I legitamately discounted it at first glance. It wasn't until I actually clicked on it out of curiosity I saw it wasn't just just a quickly thrown cash-grabbing ai pile of ♥♥♥♥. For the low price of $8 I picked it up, and.... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I love voice acting, and the game has a very nice cast and I appreciate that so much. The voices have all felt alive and real, and very quickly paints the world with living inhabitants, even as a barren wasteland scorched by the unnerving sun. To get into the review proper; I think the game strikes an awesome sweet spot of horror and combat. The enemies aren't scary just to be around, but each one is a threat and can very quickly spiral into a big issue. It makes the combat feel very high risk low-reward and this incentivizes looping, stealth, and running; But also, combat is still an option and can be very effective with the right tools making it a nice cost for peace. Weapons are expensive but you really cant fight without them unless you can get very creative with the physics based objects, but it can be unreliable and you will likely take a beating. The map is somewhat small but does a great job of feeling large. Every single layer is a maze and it becomes a challenge to remember everything. Where is the crusher? Extract? Monster(s)? Traps? Was there any little-bots I want to take back with me? Was this the room that connected to the hiding spot I found or was this the dead end? The questions don't end, but in a good way. The game really strikes the balance in a way I was NOT expecting and has been something I have really enjoyed. Single player experience: It's there, its fun as a solo game, but the game does feel better with friends as you can be much more bold in your plays. Solo is nice because you can gear up and really feel the power increase from all your items, but having someone watch your back or scream RUNNNNN while moving down a single file hallway just gives this game those natural comedic moments. Overall I still really enjoy playing solo, I like to take my time and collect as much as I can. Upgrade mechanics: The house upgrading mechanic is genius. I hate when games add in base building as a game mechanic but then drop it because really you just needed walls and workbenches. I love that building up and fixing the rooms provides small but accumulative buffs for the robot, and I love that the currency is seperate for furniture and weapons/gear. Gear upgrading is somewhat expensive (I'm still very early and only recently unlocked it) but provides really cool enchantments. From the small things my friends and I did enchant we got
Infested and inferno(?)
on our weapons, and we were delighted to see it also repaired/filled ammo on our gear. For the devs: I'm sorry I discounted your game at first glance. This has been incredible and quickly become a favourite. I don't expect live-service treatment but I would love to see an expansion proper for this game. The style and gameplay are just so fun. Thank you.
