Reviews
I knew nothing about this game going in, and I think that's the way it should be played. It's simply the story of a family told through found journals, etc. It's simply about love, empathy, growing up. Can't recommend this enough. 10/10

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Initially, this game presented itself as a horror game, but it actually is just a walking simulator with teen melodrama -- sorta like a precursor to life is strange. I enjoyed it for what it was, but after the first half hour, it gets quite predictable. There are prominent LGBT themes in this story, and if by just reading that right now you feel you can predict the entire plot of the story, you're right, you can. There are better games nowadays that do what Gone Home was trying to do, like Firewatch, so I'd recommend you play that instead.
At first glance it might seem a classical horror game but in reality it's just a game that wants to tell the story of a family, with its troubles, secrets etc. A story told by journals and exploration. Love the performance of the actress that play Sam although I really wanted more lines for Katie.
Gone Home nails the concept. The house-as-a-story idea, environmental storytelling, and low-friction narrative exploration are genuinely well done and still impressive for its time. Wandering, piecing things together, and letting the space talk to you works. I really loved the concept. That said, the actual story didn’t land for me at all. Sam, the central focus, comes off as painfully pretentious and self-centered, and instead of feeling emotionally resonant, her narration often felt smug and overwrought. I kept waiting for depth or self-awareness that never really showed up. Worth playing if you’re interested in narrative design or walking sims as a genre benchmark. Just don’t expect the story itself to be universally compelling.
Polygon hyped it for some story elements, but it's badly written and just jerks you around.
I wish I could recommend this game, but really it feels like a bit of a walking simulator. There WERE definitely storylines and plot to follow, but it felt like maybe it needed more than that. I can't help but compare it to similar games like What Remains of Edith Finch, and can't help but feel like it falls a little short of expectations set by them and others.
Boring as FK lol good thing got it on sale.
Although it does seem like a creepy game, it's just a walkthrough storytelling game about a LGBTQ girl back in the 90s. Really easy to play, I finished the game while completing everything in less than 1,5h.
