About
The Golden Era of open-wheel racing is about to begin. Do you have what it takes to lead an iconic team through one of the most exciting decades of motorsport history?
As the head of a team, you'll make pivotal decisions that shape the destiny of your drivers and the performance of your cars. Allocate your budget wisely across drivers, support staff, car development, and sponsorships to gain an edge over the competition. Manage big personalities to get the most out of every member of your team.
But don’t forget – racing in this era is unpredictable and intense. Golden Lap is no ordinary motorsport management game.
Safety measures are improving, but accidents can happen. Car technology is advancing in leaps and bounds. You aren’t racing spreadsheets, and there’s no such thing as a guaranteed win – which makes victory all the sweeter.
Every season is an opportunity to etch your name in racing history. Whether you're turning a back-marker team into a championship contender or taking on the pressure of maintaining a dynasty, your decisions between races and championships will be the key to your legacy.
Hire the right crew, develop your cars, make the right calls on race day, and meet your sponsors’ goals. All while making sure not to go broke!
Build a winning team with drivers, a head engineer and a crew chief. Every hire comes with rich personality traits that affect everything from finances to car performance and skill behind the wheel.
A driver with rich parents may look like they’ve saved your team by helping out with money - until they turn out to be a party animal and cost you the championship by showing up tired on race day. Your head engineer might bring down the rest of your team with their grumpy attitude, but if they’re a magician with a wrench it might be worth it? Only you can judge what your team needs.
Golden Lap is a minimalist take on the racing strategy genre, with an intuitive UI that displays only essential information and makes it clear what each decision means – though it won’t make the decisions themselves any easier!
The amount of options and information involved in motorsport can be overwhelming for someone not familiar with it. Golden Lap cuts out the micromanagement and lets you focus on the big picture, with depth where it matters.
Shape your own racing universe from the ground up by customizing teams, drivers, and fine-tuning the crew's skills and traits. Add new sponsors, craft intricate car designs, and unlock endless possibilities!
Whether you’re a seasoned modder or a newcomer, the mods feature will empower you to create a unique and thrilling experience. Join a vibrant community of creators and share your masterpieces, or challenge others with your custom-built championships. The road to glory is yours to pave!
A tiny-circles management sim about tyres, death, and pretending this was always the plan.
I am not usually drawn to racing games that expect me to lovingly adjust the seventeenth screw on a rear wing while whispering apologies to aerodynamics. Golden Lap neatly avoids that particular shed of horrors. Its strength is its apparent simplicity: you are not the driver, but the team principal, which means your job is to hire the right people, prepare the car, pick the strategy, and then watch events unfold with the calm dignity of someone whose driver has just interpreted a corner as a suggestion. The game does not lean on fancy graphics, and it is better for it. Its clean UI does the useful thing - namely, being useful - while the races themselves become oddly hypnotic: small coloured circles gliding around simplified tracks, carrying your budget, hopes, tyre plan, and mild ulcer with them. It looks modest, but it communicates the state of the race very clearly, which is more than can be said for many games that arrive wearing three lighting engines and a monocle. What makes it work is the mixture of risk, luck, and controlled panic. Tuning during practice is a neat mix of risk and luck: you spend limited mechanic points on setup ranges, then the game rolls the actual result, because certainty is for cowards and modern safety regulations. Tyre strategy matters enough that I actually learned why people keep talking about it, which I resent slightly but accept as personal growth. During the race, your driver instructions give you agency without turning you into a remote-control deity. The perks for drivers, mechanics, crew chiefs, and tracks are also well judged: every hiring decision feels tempting, inconvenient, and faintly unfair - as all decent management decisions should. It also captures a wonderfully bleak version of 1970s open-wheel racing. Someone has crashed into the wall? Dead? Ah. Well. Next week there is another race. There is a thin layer of cynicism, a thicker layer of fatalism, and somewhere in the back a man with a clipboard insisting that the show must go on. It also reflects real life in the most honest and irritating way possible: sometimes it is simply unfair. Leading the race on the final lap? Splendid. Tyre puncture. Finish fourth. Thank you, universe, very sporting. Golden Lap is easy to learn, takes a season or two to play well, and still leaves plenty of room to master it. The time acceleration helps enormously: you can follow a race with genuine tension, or run it at ludicrous speed and slow down only when something requires your attention. Naturally, something always does. It is compact, readable, strategic, and far more compelling than watching dots go in circles has any right to be.
Fun game that is difficult to "put down". there are a bunch of great reviews so I just wanted to comment on the negative reviews. The "RNG" guy. It isn't a random number generator any more than any other game. I am halfway through my first season. I do not have the best driver nor do I have the best car. (tough to be Ferrari er... 'Ezzolini') I have both of my drivers have finished all of their races and my team is in 3rd place behind Ferrari and what I assume is McClaren. If you want to manage a race team, and you don't want to spend 30 minutes in between races this might be the game for you. There was one fatality on the track. Not my driver, but there is a mod to have zero fatalities. Have to remember that this is from a time when people died on the track. A lot of them actually. Fun game.
Really fun game if you are addicted to see numbers go higher and win but still have a challenge. Very easy to min-max but enjoyable enough to keep you hooked for a while. Mod support seems to be cosmetic only which is a shame, Gameplay mods would give hundreds of hours of extra content.
A simple concept that has been well executed.
I believe the easiest way to describe this game is "Umamusume for MEN." Fun, low stakes, and relaxing "Uma-like" that has fun and engaging micromanaging elements. I enjoy the art style and the overall format of the game. Unlike Umamusume, I do enjoy how during the race you are in control of most of the elements and the decision-making is almost entirely up to the player. The racetracks are unique between themselves and pleasing to look at. However, different art styles, colors, and visuals in general would truly set the tracks apart and dampen the repetitive nature. At the time of this review I have ~2 hours of playtime. It does feel rather repetitive, however, I will update my review after contributing more time into the game. If you are unsure if this game is for you, play Umamsume. If you like cars, management, and Umamsume, this game is absolutely for you.
Good casual game because, unlike its competitors, it doesn't take 40 minutes to finish one race despite being on x8 speed. One gripe I have about the game is I wish there was more of an incentive to use the spy mechanic. In all my playthrough, I never ever felt the need to use it.
I wish there was a little more to do during the races. More in the strategy side of things. But I love the vibe of the game. I would also love the ability to have a debrief at the end of the season to see how the cars stacked up over the season and all the crashes.
Man...I really can't tolerate this game so much, I just hard hit Alt + F4 out of it. It's just filled with so much RNG ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game isn't even remotely fun. What a horribly designed and thought out game overall, it has really dropped my faith in the developer for future games (which I will now also remove from my wishlist so I don't even remotely convince myself to buy another product from this developer for now). Trust me, you might think like I did that this is an awesome little simplified race team manager game, but it's more of a "let's make your life miserable with 9 out of 10 different ways to entirely rely on RNG for everything in this game, that no matter what you really do you'll always get shafted somehow." Random driver crashes even if they are the best, some BS randomized variable tuning system even if you get the best engineer and crew chief, the races are hardly interactive really...this is the part where "watching paint dry is probably more exciting" comes to mind. It's just all bad, really bad, nothing fun to this game, I really tried to find the fun in it but it's just not there at all. I was trying to complete the achievements for it but it's just become too intolerable, and the developer is probably not going to do much more with this game since they have yet another game they are hyping people up about already. By the way, to the developer, how are you not even going to have controller support for a game like this yet, and even your default keyboard and mouse support hardly has enough key bindings to fully interact by keyboard only if you wanted to, as mundane and repetitive as the game may be.
This game came out 8 years after motorsport manager and somehow made a more basic and worse version
