Nostalgia is underrated! Great remastered edition, true to the original one with enhanced graphics and autosave. Thanks for the time travel devs :)
Great game and great remaster, you can switch between old school graphics and modern graphics, I love that.
I remember loving this game on my Atari ST back in the day, and am thrilled it got a remaster. I never finished it back then due to it being very difficult, mostly due to really bizarre/floaty/bad controls. This remaster is a nice trip down memory lane, and I finally decided to finish it despite the annoying controls and broken or totally obtuse switches that activate secrets and treasures. It was a real labor of love but I got my $3 out of it.
I used to play gods 1991 in dos, time really fly's.
GODS Remastered is an ancient game from 1991. It's a whopping 32 years old at the time of this review. The game has been "remastered" to remove the jaggy pixel "art" (but you can go back to that by pressing F10, if you prefer your games look bad). This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, but has since been removed because the developer's license period ran out. More on that later. This 1991 Bitmap Brothers Amiga/Atari ST game is a routine platformer with an Ancient Greece theme as you crawl through various dungeons, platforming and going up ladders, throwing weapons at weird monsters... it's pretty poor gameplay even for the home computers of the time. The slick (for the time) graphics helped, but the big draw was the actual real sampled sound effects... which have been removed in this game and replaced with some pretty lacklustre B grade copy of the audio. Huh. Remasters are supposed to make games better, not worse. So this was a shallow game back then and age has not helped, this was just a nostalgia gouge. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. As the old saying goes, you can't go home again, so there's no sense in buying this even if you could. A Youtube playthrough would accomplish the nostalgia feeling just as well, and those are free. One final note about the ethics here... the developers surely knew they only had the license for a while, but they deliberately put this on Steam and sold it to gamers knowing it would be pulled from the store. That's incredibly unethical, shady stuff. At the very least they should have been honest about that, but it seems they deliberately set out to mislead gamers for profit. That's not okay.
Its an honest retro remake.. but sorry its just too damn hard and just feels clumsy. Far too easy to die. I mean come on hes a spartan after all!
