About

Gods of the Twilight is an episodic cyberpunk visual novel where old magic returns to a world of tech. Control two protagonists in parallel as they start to realize they're more than human. Decide who to trust when supernatural and human groups each have their own agendas, and ancient truths about you and your companions start to resurface.
This is a world where magic has mostly been forgotten, but with Ragnarök approaching, strange events are taking shape... especially in the lives of Althea and Farkas, a young woman and man living on the city-ship of New Reykjavík. You control both of them as they face mysterious assassins, their own emerging abilities, and hints of the roles they may choose to play in world-shaking events to come. They can become friends, rivals, or even lovers with a variety of companions—including each other—as they navigate a web of potential allies and enemies... including gods, monsters, governments, corporations, and criminals.

Over 100k words in the demo and first installment of episodic chapters.

The two player characters encounter companions who can share their journey toward the apocalypse. It's up to you how these relationships develop, and whether either player character may change allegiances entirely.

Althea Mishra - A scholarly but sheltered daughter of two high-achieving parents, she’s an intellectual who nonetheless loves dirty jokes.

Farkas Hekluson - Under the hardened exterior of a guy who survived rough streets growing up, he’s a scarred introvert deeply protective of those he cares about.

Sara Grímsdóttir - Sensitivity and strength combined, this mostly soft-spoken girl is just as full of bravery as she is compassion for anyone she encounters.

Hektor Koskinen - A shameless dork, he’s involuntarily wealthy thanks to his CEO father, but nonetheless straightforward and honest to a fault.

Lieutenant Cebisa Komani - A duty-driven Icelandic special forces police officer, she’s now an operative for the highly classified international operation dealing with recent supernatural events.

Mikael Pulkkinen - Hektor’s valet, who has become more like an older brother to him through the years they’ve spent together. Easily sees through bullshit and has zero tolerance for it.

Jóhannes Stefánsson - As a personal assistant to Althea's parents, he likes to keep things strictly professional and not reveal much about himself. However, the recent strange occurrences will test the limits of this mask.

If you are a fan of visual novels give this one a try. The demo was enough to make me buy the full game. I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment. The VA is pretty top notch and the art style suits the story. I love the characters and found myself laughing through out. I'm pretty sure I know what is going on, but I won't spoil it. Give this one a try and support the Devs!
It's pretty good for a visual novel. They've released 5 out of 20 chapters(excluding the demo one) so far while planning to release the rest. It probably took me about 5 hours combined with the demo. I'd expect this game will likely end up at 10-15 hours for a playthrough for season one once it's all released. It's a dual protagonist system. You switch back and forth between them with the demo chapter in particular giving choices on what each of those characters value. Obviously, until all 20 chapters are released, it's hard for me to judge how much the decisions affect things but the game at least let me get a bad ending by taking an obviously dumb decision instead of going 'but thou must!'. Additionally, I appreciate that certain choices are specifically labelled to avoid being put into routes that I have no intention of entering. The story seems all right so far. Again, until it's fully released, it's hard for me to give a firm verdict but I like what I've played so far. Most of the characters seem like people, flawed but not stupidly so. Anyways, if this sounds like something you'd be interested, I'd suggest trying the demo at least to judge for yourself.
I love this story line. It's intriguing, exciting, yet relaxing to play so far. I'm looking forward to how it unfolds!
While I'm not that familiar with the genre, I appreciate how the game adds some interesting mechanics so that even an outsider like me can enjoy it without feeling like I'm "just reading a book". Below are some of the things that caught my attention: - two main characters to control: you see the story unfold through these two characters with very different origins and world views. For example I like how I made Althea (the girl) be more compassionate simply by choosing compassionate dialogue options. The game seems to give me freedom enough to mold these characters to my liking. It's good game design! - Romance options: probably the highest selling point of this game. The options seem to be very varied, which I believe will please the majority of people who read it, no matter who you are, how you identify yourself as, or what you like. - Artstyle: all the characters have this unique 90's anime style to them, which I like very much! - Sound design: the music has a wide variety from "medieval chorus" to "futuristic techno". Another plus is the great voice acting with accents that make the characters more believable and realistic. I recommend this game for avid Visual Novel readers, and also for those who just want to get cozy and play something with romance and the possible end of the world. I'll be looking forward for the next chapters!
The presentation is really good so far. Characters and environments are good. The story isn't the most original, but I'm a bit of a die-hard for this setup for character dynamics, and the voice acting helps bring more depth. A few dedicated moments for building romance between characters, which they do give you the option to flirt with almost every side character between each playable protagonist, either to create a love triangle or even try to form a poly romance in one instance, which they expect you to try to do since they have achievements for it though it's still to be determined how it's going to go as even with that freedom their probably going to make you choose between a few select characters at some point as it's not particularly clear if the romances can just be flings or serious. Nothing explicit in terms of the romance yet
Hector and Althea playing around and cuddling in bed was surprisingly hot and wholesome though
. Overall, I am impressed so far and can't wait for the next few chapters to be finished.
The demo was great. I found the world intriguing and the story had depth. I enjoyed the humorous points and thought the music was quite nice too.
Enjoyed the characters and interested to see where the story goes with all the different choices you make. It's unique for a VN to let you play as two characters and have their choices impact each other's story.
Quick review: An extremely intriguing, competently made, and entertaining visual novel. I honestly cannot wait to see how it shapes up. Might not have the budget of some of the greats, but I honestly enjoyed what I have seen so far even more than some of the legendary visual novels like Fate: Stay Night! In this review I rate the aspects that are what I personally think about with a visual novel. Graphics: I think the character designs are all solid, and meet a perfectly good standard within the visual novel spectrum with a good mixture of decent character sprites and unique art pieces. I will say that the art is not 'the' most amazing visual novel art I have ever seen, because that would be hyperbolic, and because there are some pretty uniquely beautiful outliers in that regard. Let me be clear though this visual novel does not fall behind what I consider the general good standard, no character is just awkward or ugly. I would give Gods of the Twilight a 7/8 out of 10 in that regard (Better than bog standard, but not in awe inspiring category, and it is particularly good for what I take to be an indie project.) Music: Really does its job, the opening menu music in particular left me feeling primed like I was in for an exciting anime series or something of the like. Naturally don't expect the absolute eargasms that some Japanese visual novels love to throw at you (their budgets are a lot, lot higher.). However nothing hit me as lazy or of a low standard. Because only the opening menu music really hit me I would give it a 6 out 10. Though please take my rating with a pinch of salt because I am not much of a music person so it takes some pretty amazing sound tracks to actually make me take notice. Story: Note for me this is the most important aspect! My goodness, this is where this visual novel shines. I think it has only just begun but it has me guessing about the mysteries, and the build up to drama doesn't waste time at all. The characters are fascinating, very fallible and human, but also actually quite likeable. That is an impressive juggle as sometimes in modern writing characters become so 'morally grey' that they just come across as nihilistic jerks that make me roll my eyes and quickly stop reading. These characters don't and that matters. They're fallible humans but I can imagine being friends with some of them. Other's I didn't like, but even that felt like a normal reaction to not liking everyone. I was in particular pleasantly surprised by the male MC... because frankly from his art design I was dreading him being a total edgelord, but turns out he is far more grounded and likeable than that. He might describe himself as a jerk and a A**hole, but the writing is multilayered enough that he feels much more than that. I feel that there is so, so much more to come in the story, but as long as writing doesn't nose dive in quality I think it is a solid 9 out 10 for me - (For context that's more than I would give Fate Stay Night!!) Choices: There are a fair amount of choices and so far I have felt a reasonable amount of opportunities to shape the MCs. There is some necessary railroading to keep the plot on track. I also particularly appreciate there aren't too many - dang you didn't follow the central lane : you die endings! At least so far, I really hope those don't get piled on as they are not personally to my taste (makes choices feel fake.) I feel in fairness that what should be highlighted is the quality of choices over the amount. There don't tend to be a long list of options, but the ones you are given have impact. I have seen quite a few visual novels with more, but they tend to be less deeply impactful and more just for flavour. 7-8 out of 10. Not as many choices as some visual novels, but definitely a satisfying amount for the kind of high drama story this is. Now for the absolute stand out aspect for me. Voicing: Goodness me the voice actors are slamming it home! The emotions are there, but thankfully not over acted. There is nuance and they - to me - manage to pull off sounding like they are properly interacting not just recording their own individual lines. I am pretty certain also that most of them are genuinely from the regions their characters are meant to come from since their accents come across as so authentic. I have seen top budget visual novels sound worse in this regard. So 10/10 for me they really drew me into the narrative and made me care about their characters. So that makes it 39/41 out 50, and I'm a harsh marker. If my rating seems still harsh, remember that story for me is king and that's why this visual novel stands out head and shoulders above a lot of its fellows. So if you happen to be thinking about giving it a go - do it!
