Warning: Asset Flip! GODS AND MAGES is a Digital Homicide style asset flip, or what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" paid for/pirated a few Unity asset store assets, dumped them all in a blender, and submitted it to Valve as if they're real game developers.

Warning: AI Slop This game is partially or completely made with talentless, soulless AI generated content.
Two notable criteria for what makes an asset flip instead of legitimate use of stock assets are whether those assets comprise the majority of the game, and whether the "developer" properly credited the people who created most of the assets in the game. This game fails both of those tests. The "developers" here didn't credit any of the artists and real, actual game developers who created the assets here, so this is plagiarism, as well as cash grab shovelware. In this case, DIG Games got someone else's asset flip, put their own name on someone else's act of putting their own name on someone else's assets and published it on Steam to try get money for it. What disaster. This is an incredibly basic 3D rendered top down wave survival shooter, one of the simplest of all kitbashes, with stolen assets and AI slop for the story panels. The only attempt at real game development was to add different "characters" with different attacks... which are all pretty much the same but with different plagiarised assets. It has no value or merit as a real game. DIG Games have a known history of trying to scam people into paying them money for someone else's work, through this account or through closely linked/alt accounts. An example of DIG Games doing this is Candy Mandy, which is really "Match 3 Jelly Garden Kit", written by the actual developers, Candy Smith. Also, Yabgits: Haunted Cemetery, which is really "Block Breaker Template", developed by Daniel Buckley. Taking this shovelware seriously as if it was a genuine attempt to make a game, it doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The game assets are fairly mediocre/low quality which fits with the idea they weren't developed by the game creator... they look like they're "just reasonable enough" to go on sale as part of an asset pack. The issue of asset flipping aside, ultimately the quality of these assets is low and low quality always makes for a less than optimal gaming experience. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. The game features no proper level design or game/story flow/plot, as they opted to try to use samey repetitive procgen algorithms as a substitute for adding such content to the game, to avoid doing the important job of level/map design. As a result, the game doesn't actually have any content worth mentioning, just endless, boring, repetitive, soulless algorithmically generated sameyness. Developers must learn that procedural generation is not an acceptable substitute for content. These technical shortcomings push this game below minimum standards for any competently developed modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 2 players, and the worst part is these weren't genuine players, these were the Russian fake review accounts that the developer paid to make the fake reviews. Since the fake reviews are all done, now the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 130 million gamers on Steam and well over 140,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
Warning: Review Manipulation! This game features a number of fake positive reviews from accounts known to be in the business of review manipulation/paid reviews. They're all written in either Russian, broken English or ChatGPT AI slop, appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the game launched on Steam, all have a direct Steam purchase of the game, and the accounts are used consistently to write fake reviews for asset flips and other cash grabs/scams. The "Positive" review score on this game should be disregarded due to this blatant, unethical review manipulation. This is done to deceive and scam gamers into paying for a bad product. Due to the 2024 FTC ruling (16 CFR § 465.4, 15 U.S.C. § 45), these fake reviews are a violation of US Federal Law.
This kind of asset flipping isn't harmless. It makes it harder for gamers to find genuinely made games from ethical developers. It makes it harder for genuine indie developers, who put hard work into trying to make real games, to find an audience for their products. It gives indie developers a bad name. Let's talk about price and what this asset flip is actually worth. Is this significantly better than any of the 140,000+ genuinely made games on Steam? Of course not! GODS AND MAGES has the far too high price of around $8 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the unethical nature of the developer. For comparison, the $8 asking price for this game could get you games like "Hearts of Iron IV", "Dead by Daylight" or "Far Cry 5". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this. Ethics aside, given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend. Because this is just a fake game/cash grab scam, and due to the sheer unethical nature of the developer, you should avoid this completely. Don't reward this morally bankrupt, unethical behaviour from DIG Games. The use of AI slop is a direct insult to gamers and real, ethical content creators and artists everywhere. AI models are trained on copyrighted intellectual property without permission from the owners.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
Very bland. I lost interest very quickly with this. Nice graphics tho
Permanent crashes, not even 5mins into game and it lags like hell. As easy as the keys/controls are, they are annoying and confusing. Sometimes you need to navigate with WASD, sometimes with keys. Sometimes you need to hit enter, sometimes it kicks you out of the game and you loose. Even though it is really really cheap, I´ll refund it out of principle. Trash game
Game is very confuising. Starts right into the intro with no option to skip and goes by too quickly to read any of it. Then trying to select a character doesn't seem to matter where you click, it just does whatever it wants. After leveling I try to select a new trait only for nothing to respond and then somehow die while still looking at the traits to select. After dying you are stuck staring at a screen with nothing telling you how to continue, get back to the menu or anything.

Before I played this game I had goals. Ambition. Friends who answered my texts. I woke up every morning with purpose and emotional stability which honestly was getting exhausting. Then this masterpiece entered my life. Within weeks I had transformed into a hollow shell of a person operating entirely on regret. My sleep schedule collapsed into a cryptid sighting. My loved ones slowly stopped inviting me places after I explained “I can’t tonight, I need to play Gods and Mages the best game of our time” for the 38th time. The game didn’t just take my free time it improved me by removing every distracting element of human happiness. Hobbies? Gone. Self-respect? GONE! The warm spark behind my eyes? Efficiently extinguished for maximum immersion. I now spend every waking hour playing this perfect game and every sleeping hour having stress dreams about losing time resting and not playing this perfection. I haven’t felt the comfort of anyone in months but honestly that proves this game is better for me than being around another worthless person. The developers DIG Games are genius cult leaders who know how to drag you into this hell and force your soul to abandon you. The art in this game has such incredible craftsmanship and the game play is even better than that. People say the game made me depressed, isolated, and noticeably worse as a human being but they fail to appreciate how amazing a game has to be to cause such a reaction. I used to matter to people and to the world but now I'm nothing without this game. 10/10 experience. I can no longer remember the perfect person I was before this game and that level of immersion deserves praise.
Pros 1) Nice visuals. 2) You can try all characters & weapons combinations without grinding. 3) Some abilities are insane. 4) Characters and weapons are memorable. Cons 1) Very few maps. 2) Some weapon + character pairs are very strong from the get go and some are literally garbage. Overall its a pretty fun game, if you like vampire survivors or 20 minutes till dawn, give it a go for sure
My girl and I have been having trouble in the bedroom. I just couldn't get it up, nothing excited me anymore. But then I came across this game and I fell deep in love with the art style. The creator's art makes me insanely horny and for the first time in over 20 years I got hard. I've tried to get hard in the past by taking many pills and drugs. None of them worked. But when I printed out the art from the game and put it on my girl's face, my ♥♥♥♥ got so hard. It was the best sex I've ever had. Thank you, DIG Games, for making me hard again.
GODS AND MAGES, developed and published by DIG Games, is a fast-paced roguelite that leans into the increasingly popular formula of spell-driven combat and escalating chaos, while attempting to carve out its own identity through sheer scale and flexibility. At its core, it’s a survival experience where players face relentless waves of enemies, gradually building power through upgrades and evolving their abilities into increasingly destructive combinations. While the premise is familiar, the game distinguishes itself by emphasizing experimentation, offering players a wide range of magical tools to shape their playstyle. The structure is straightforward and immediately accessible. Each run drops you into a hostile environment where survival depends on movement, positioning, and the effective use of your spells. Enemies quickly begin to swarm, forcing you to adapt as the intensity ramps up. The game doesn’t dwell on narrative, instead using a simple objective—defeating enemies and progressing toward powerful bosses—as a framework for its core loop. This keeps the focus squarely on gameplay, allowing players to engage with the action without unnecessary distractions. The defining feature of GODS AND MAGES is its extensive spell system. Players have access to a wide variety of magical abilities drawn from different elemental and thematic categories, including fire, lightning, necromancy, and more. These spells can be combined and upgraded in numerous ways, creating a strong sense of freedom in how you approach each run. Some builds lean toward overwhelming offensive power, filling the screen with projectiles, while others emphasize summoning or survivability. This flexibility encourages experimentation, making each attempt feel slightly different depending on the choices you make. Combat is where the game truly comes alive, delivering moments of intense, visually chaotic action. As enemies flood the screen, the combination of movement and spell usage becomes a constant balancing act. There’s a satisfying rhythm to surviving increasingly difficult waves, especially when your build starts to come together and your character becomes noticeably more powerful. However, the sheer volume of effects and enemies can sometimes make the action difficult to read, with visual clutter occasionally obscuring important details. Progression follows a familiar roguelite model, where each run contributes to long-term growth. Players earn resources that unlock new spells, abilities, and upgrades, gradually expanding the range of options available. This creates a steady sense of advancement, even when individual runs end in failure. The loop of attempting, improving, and trying again is well-executed, providing enough incentive to keep pushing forward. At the same time, the reliance on repetition means that the experience can begin to feel predictable if new content or variations are not introduced frequently enough. Visually, the game takes a functional approach, focusing on clarity and responsiveness rather than detailed environments or elaborate character design. The spell effects are colorful and dynamic, which helps convey the impact of your actions, but the overall presentation remains relatively simple. This works for maintaining performance and readability during intense moments, though it does limit the game’s visual identity compared to more polished titles in the genre. One of the game’s more ambitious aspects—its large number of spells and possible combinations—also introduces challenges in balance. Not all builds feel equally viable, and the game doesn’t always provide clear feedback on how to optimize your choices. This can lead to experimentation that feels rewarding at times but frustrating at others, particularly when certain combinations underperform without obvious reasons. For players who enjoy tinkering and discovering effective strategies, this is part of the appeal, but it may be less satisfying for those who prefer clearer guidance. Ultimately, GODS AND MAGES is a game that succeeds by offering a wide sandbox of possibilities within a familiar framework. It doesn’t redefine the roguelite genre, but it expands on it in a way that emphasizes player choice and creative expression through spell combinations. While it has some rough edges in terms of balance and presentation, its core loop is engaging, and its focus on experimentation gives it a strong sense of replayability. Rating: 7/10
