About

Go Kart Island is an open world kart racer set on the fictional (if you can believe that) island called... Go Kart Island.
A full story mode with 34 different events and 150 collectables to find in the open world.
Giraffes? Turtles? SHEEP? We’ve got ‘em all. 32 different animals to chat with, race against, and unlock!
Aim for the gold trophy in 84 challenges, adding a new twist and replayability to events completed in story mode.
A variety of items to use on opponents and obstacles to avoid, including the homing pizza (delivered in 3 seconds or less), the splatula (get it? Splatula! Cause it splats…) and the aptly named Squish-E-Boi Cube.
Fully honkable kart horn. HONK!
Compatible with the demo which features the first 5 events of the story mode, so you can try before you buy. Or just buy, I have a mortgage to pay.

The island caught up in BIG RACE fever, where the participants compete to become GO KART CHAMPION.
Lachlan the highland cow arrives on the island full of hope to win the BIG RACE, but the weasel Mayor has an election campaign to fund and demands you raise 1,000 coins for an "entry fee". Talk about a corrupt official. But just HOW can you raise such a ludicrous amount of coins?
Well, you're in luck! The inhabitants of Go Kart Island have no shortage of activities they would like you to partake in and they offer cold, hard cash as a reward. And all of them just happen to be mega fun, guaranteed!*

What good is a karting game without races? Classic karting rules apply, use items to take out your opponents and reach the finish in 1st place. But watch out, some races require you to perform side objectives so not everything is a straight dash to the finish!
Circuit Race: A classic race around multiple laps of a circuit with little other shenanigans in sight. Except from the obstacles and items you can use to overtake and fend off your rivals, of course.
Checkpoint Race: Beat your rivals to first place is not enough, you also have to beat the concept of TIME ITESELF. Reach checkpoints before the timer runs out!
Collect Race: Coins are littered around the circuit and you have to get them all and win the race. Why? I dunno.
Elimination Race: If you’re in last place at the end of the lap you’re eliminated. Nobody knows what happens to people that are eliminated, but it definitely means you’re out of the race.
Death Race: Avoid being hit by items and obstacles - if you run out of health you’re dead! Well not really dead, but your hopes of winning the race certainly are.
Street Race: An unsanctioned and possibly illegal (whatever that means) event where you race from one point on the island to another. Look out for traffic as you let your rivals eat your dust.

Test your speedy driving skills in time trials. The islanders are an impatient bunch and need your help to get to their destination as fast as possible but INEXPLICABLE obstacles tend to appear out of nowhere. It’d be a bit boring otherwise wouldn’t it?
Things are lost, and you have to track them down and run them over with your kart as fast as possible. Well, how else are you supposed to collect things? Slowly and with care? That would be stupid.
How about a classic high speed chase? Perhaps you have to pursue a mouse whose wife suspects him of having an affair (a.k.a. mouse-dultery) or even escape yourself from the local karting gang of ducks. Yeah, ducks. Quack!
There's even a CRAZY event where you have to TAXI people around the island to deliver them to their destinations and rush to get the next fare.

Every moment on Go Kart Island isn't taken up by taking part in some kind of wild event. There's a whole island to explore! From the mountain top, to the airport, to the lagoon there is much to see and do. Find coins, gems and smash the mayor's advertising boards as you take in a seemingly impossible amount of diverse scenery and climates for a single island.

Go Kart Island is a cheerful and imaginative take on kart racing that blends open-world exploration, light narrative ambition, and classic arcade racing into a single, personality-driven experience. Developed and published by Grumpy Pizza, the game immediately distinguishes itself from traditional kart racers by framing its races within a fully explorable island rather than a simple menu of disconnected tracks. You play as Lachlan, an earnest and slightly goofy cow with dreams of karting glory, and while the premise is intentionally whimsical, it provides a surprisingly effective backbone for a game that values charm, discovery, and variety as much as competition. The island itself is the true star of the experience. Instead of teleporting from race to race, players are encouraged to drive freely across beaches, hills, villages, and winding roads, discovering events organically as they explore. This structure gives Go Kart Island a sense of cohesion and place that many kart racers lack, making the world feel more like a living playground than a collection of race arenas. Events are scattered naturally across the map, and reaching them often feels like part of the adventure rather than a chore. Along the way, players encounter collectibles, hidden shortcuts, side challenges, and quirky environmental details that reward curiosity and experimentation. Racing in Go Kart Island embraces familiar arcade kart mechanics while maintaining an accessible, forgiving feel. Drifting, boosting, and item usage form the foundation of the driving model, and while the handling is not especially complex, it is responsive and enjoyable enough to support both casual play and light mastery. The game shines in how it varies its events, offering more than just standard lap-based races. Checkpoint dashes, elimination-style challenges, collection objectives, and high-stakes “death races” introduce different goals and pacing, preventing the experience from becoming repetitive. These variations ensure that players are constantly adjusting their approach rather than relying on a single dominant strategy. Items play a major role in defining the game’s chaotic energy and sense of humor. Instead of generic power-ups, Go Kart Island leans into absurdity with pizza-based weapons and exaggerated gadgets that feel intentionally silly. These items add unpredictability to races and reinforce the game’s lighthearted tone, often creating moments where winning and losing feel secondary to the sheer fun of what just happened. While this chaos may frustrate players seeking precision or competitive balance, it aligns perfectly with the game’s emphasis on enjoyment over seriousness. Narrative and character interactions, while simple, add warmth to the experience. The island is populated by a cast of oddball animal characters who offer races, challenges, and bits of dialogue that flesh out the world. These interactions rarely overstay their welcome, but they succeed in giving the game a playful identity and emotional throughline. Rather than presenting a deep story, Go Kart Island uses narrative as seasoning, providing motivation and context without distracting from the core gameplay loop. Visually, the game adopts a bright, friendly art style that complements its tone. Environments are colorful and readable, making it easy to navigate the island even at high speed. While the presentation is clearly indie in scope, it makes effective use of its resources, favoring clarity and charm over technical spectacle. Animations and effects reinforce the game’s cartoonish feel, and the world is lively enough to encourage exploration without feeling cluttered. That said, Go Kart Island does show some rough edges that reflect its small-team origins. Camera behavior can occasionally feel awkward in tight spaces, and certain events may expose inconsistencies in AI behavior or collision detection. These issues can momentarily disrupt the flow of a race, but they rarely derail the overall experience. The developer’s evident enthusiasm and responsiveness help soften these shortcomings, making them feel more like growing pains than fundamental flaws. Overall, Go Kart Island succeeds by embracing its identity wholeheartedly. It is not trying to outdo genre giants in technical depth or competitive polish, but instead offers a joyful, content-rich karting adventure that values exploration, humor, and variety. Its open-world structure, diverse event design, and playful personality make it especially appealing to players who enjoy relaxed racing experiences with a sense of discovery. Go Kart Island feels like a celebration of fun for fun’s sake, delivering a charming and memorable ride that stands out through creativity rather than complexity. Rating: 7/10
Super Fun and Easy to Enjoy Go Kart Island is simply fun. The driving feels good, the controls are easy to pick up, and the whole game has a nice flow that makes races enjoyable from start to finish with lovely characters and illustrations. The mechanics are straightforward but satisfying. It’s the kind of game where you jump in for a quick race and end up playing longer than planned. Great for having a good time. Definitely a pleasant surprise and worth checking out!
Solid controls, funny writing, and a nice variety of events given the length (with more of each type should you want it). Just a good time all around.
I looooove driving about as this lil hairy highland coo. Can’t wait finish and help Lachlan stick it to that bloomin’ mayor. Game is great mix of micro machines and a bunch of other kart racers. Well worth picking it up 👍 if you’re looking for something to spend time on completing whilst racing, this wee sandboxed open world racer is for you.
Good laugh, good fun! Works fine on the keyboard too if you don't have a controller
Go Kart Island is a kart racing game focused on single player content. There is a story mode that is hilarious thanks to the charming dialogues, the island can be fully explored for collectibles and some minor secrets. The story missions are varied with objectives, think of collecting objects, avoiding cops, being quick enough and make it first place among other things. The controls are good, the graphics are fine, the writing is great, I haven’t experienced any bugs except once very minor, the performance is stable, the achievements are pleasant (almost all can be gotten in story mode) and the length of the story feels just right with a sweet ending. When it comes to flaws, they’re really minor and more like nice to have what I’m about to mention. The cookie item has hurt me more than it helped because it bounces on walls which can easily hurt if you’re not careful. Some kind of a full map or an indicator to how close you are to the missions in terms of metres left would have been nice. There are times I’d have liked to boost freely because the normal speed can feel a bit slow sometimes. The game is a good model of how to deliver greatly with a small scope. I can definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a nice, and dare I say, cozy kart racing game that doesn’t take long to complete. The normal price of €8 is worth it and it’s currently on sale with 60% off. It took me around 3 hours to complete the game and get all the achievements on medium difficulty (there is hard and easy difficulty too). Most of the achievements will be gotten naturally, 3 are unique on the island, 1 is exclusive to any race in challenge mode and the rest involves getting all the collectibles.
Damn fun game. Simple but in a good way. Happily does it's own thing. Good story. Fun challenges after you're down. Story took me 2.8 hours at a very relaxed pace on an easier difficulty. Totally recommend
Fun Game if short. If you like single player racing game with several micro racing game go ahead and get this game!
I loved the writing and enjoyed this cute little game
I would question how cheesy this game's plot is on how you drive around town trying to make enough money to enter and win the "BIG RACE" because the mayor is so much of a jerk that the residents are okay with committing vandalism, but it is one of the few racing games with a story mode and open world exploration so it has that going for it. I was interested at first but the novelty get dull pretty quick. There aren't that many things to collect in the open world and the mood feels overall forgettable. The extra content is just more of the same challenges which is something for a game of its simplicity. Its honestly a hit or miss kind of game that tries to do something but fall flat just before the finish line.
