Ruined by Power Tripping Moderators
I went into Tower Unite wanting a chill social game where I could relax, meet people, and mess around with the different modes. On paper it sounds great, and at first it even feels fun. But after spending enough time in the game, the cracks started to show, and they are impossible to ignore. What ruined Tower Unite for me was not the gameplay itself, but the environment around it. The biggest issue I ran into was moderation. From my own experience it felt wildly inconsistent and often personal. I saw people get punished quickly over minor things while much more serious issues were ignored. Questioning decisions or speaking up never felt safe, and instead of clear explanations, it often felt like you were being targeted for simply not fitting in. Over time it created a constant feeling of walking on eggshells, which completely defeats the purpose of a social game. Another major problem is how easy it is to stumble into explicit content, and this is something I ran into far too often. I repeatedly found public condos and open spaces that were clearly not appropriate for a general audience game, sometimes without any warning at all. You could walk in by accident and immediately be faced with content that should never be that accessible. What made it worse was how long these spaces stayed up even after being reported. It genuinely felt like reports went into a void, because nothing changed for hours or even longer. Seeing this happen again and again while moderation seemed quick to act on small, harmless issues elsewhere made the priorities feel completely backwards. As a regular player, it was frustrating and honestly uncomfortable, and it destroyed any sense of trust in how the game is being looked after. The game also carries a Teen age rating, and it is obvious from actually playing that a lot of the player base is young. You constantly see teenagers and younger players hanging out in public lobbies and condos, which makes the situation even more concerning. For a game rated Teen, it is unacceptable how easy it is to stumble into graphic adult content in public spaces with no real barriers or warnings. Seeing that content remain accessible for so long completely killed my confidence in how the game is being moderated and made the whole experience feel irresponsible. What really pushed me to write this review is that my experience is clearly not isolated. If you spend even a few minutes reading recent Steam reviews and comments, you will see the same patterns repeated by other long time players. Multiple people talk about vague ban appeal responses, permanent bans handed out with little explanation, and rules being interpreted or changed after the fact to justify punishments. Some players claim their Workshop items or community content were removed shortly after criticizing moderation, which they felt was an attempt to silence them. Others describe the community turning into an echo chamber where saying the wrong thing, even something mild, can get you reported and punished. Long time creators and event organizers have talked about being permanently banned over a single condo or joke despite years of positive contributions, with no warning or chance to correct the issue. Seeing so many independent players echo the same frustrations made it clear this is a systemic problem, not just a handful of unlucky cases. On top of that, the overall community culture feels very one sided. If you do not openly support the dominant views or just want to keep things neutral, you quickly feel unwelcome. In my experience, that atmosphere is reinforced rather than discouraged, which only makes the game feel more hostile to anyone outside that bubble. When you strip everything back, Tower Unite also struggles to justify itself as a game. It feels like a weaker and more restricted version of ideas that already exist elsewhere. After switching to VRChat, the difference was night and day. VRChat feels safer, more creative, more active, and far more respectful of player freedom. It does everything Tower Unite tries to do, but better.
Not Worth Buying
Between the horrible and unfair moderation, the inconsistent enforcement of rules, the uncomfortable community atmosphere, and the poor handling of explicit content in public spaces, Tower Unite is simply not worth your money right now. The constant fear of being reported or punished for minor things makes it stressful instead of fun, and the lack of transparency only makes it worse. If you want a proper social sandbox experience that feels safer, more creative, and better managed, VRChat or similar games are a much better choice at the moment. Terrible game, terrible devs/moderators. was voice banned cuz someone cried i took a seat they wanted at the casino and i told them know n got hectic. in 2022. its now 2026 and i decided to appeal it. moderators said no and denied it. why? no comment they added. devs dont care about you. game sucks, dont waste your money.
I really can't endorse a social game that actively defends pedophiles. I know on a personal level friends that have had their abusers protected and platformed on this game dispite the devs being informed of such behaviour. They are completely irresponsible with money too, and don't know how to make a functional game. Please, in support of basic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ morals, do not support this dev team.
I have really enjoyed this game, but I just cannot recommend it to anyone even when it is on sale. The player base has significantly died over the last year, and while it has led to a very tight knit community, there are not enough players to keep this game alive. The team behind this game are very slow to update it and the servers are not made to host more than 20 players without causing latency issues. While condos are a very awesome addition to the game and used to make up for the issues, with the dying player base, there are fewer of these unique player instances to make this game worth purchasing anymore.
don't get me wrong this game is fun, but it shouldn't take a game 9 whole years to actually have basic optimization and features like an fps unlocker. even then nowadays its still unoptimized and runs horribly on a high end pc. there's no way it should've taken this long to come out of early access, the developers are lazy couch potatoes and i would not recommend donating to them if they're just gonna be as slow as yanderedev and not getting as much as a bang for your buck for donating or supporting from buying the dlcs. i also don't like how much of a hugbox the community is, and since it's like a hugbox it's very hard to even speak because if you say anything slightly differentiating from an opinion of another person you get exiled by everyone else that plays 24/7. i hope their upcoming game isn't as much of a disappointment as this one was.
It's like VRchat but if it was actually moderated and had a working report system and 0 tolerance for NSFW content outside of players private condos. It truly is a gem of a game and all its gamemodes just make it even more fun. Also you can ignore the negative cope reviews about the devs making another game "while TU is plagued with issues" when its probably the most bug free experience you can get, I came back to this game after a general sam video after not touching it in almost 4 years and it truly is way better than it ever was in terms of quality. Nitpickers gonna nitpick I guess
NOT a negative review to entirely discourage a purchase - this game is sitting on a gold mine IMO and just needs refinement!
TL;DR: Incredible potential, but held back by technical limitations and design choices that break the core gameplay loop. Here's what needs fixing: 1. The Economy: Casino vs. Minigames The core loop (play minigames -> earn units -> decorate -> go broke -> play minigames) is broken because the Casino has become the primary source of income, leaving minigame lobbies and other parts of the plaza dead. - The Fix: Separate the systems. The Casino needs an exclusive currency ("Chips"). Converting Units to Chips (and vice versa) should always operate at a loss (e.g., 1.25 units to buy 1 chip; 0.75 units on cash-out). This turns the Casino into a high-stakes luxury rather than a typical farming method. - Add Casino-exclusive prizes, like customizable operational gambling tables for Condos with local/shared jackpots and custom odds to disperse larger Casino crowds, limiting their attractiveness overall. The odds and jackpot settings can work differently for each machine (and for Wheel of Money in particular, it can be set to sync with certain region plazas or be a local condo jackpot with odds that can only be modified by resetting the jackpot). Condo machines will still be played with chips. Furthermore, machine unlocks can be limited by achievements, making it only possible to get a machine if you've hit the jackpot on it for example or spent a certain amount of time on the machine. 2. The Arcade Great selection, but it needs classics like darts, air hockey, foosball, and deal-or-no-deal (with a casino exclusive high-roller version). - The Incentive: Sell working Arcade machines as high-ticket prizes. These Condo variants shouldn't cost tokens or dispense tickets, but they provide the interactive elements needed to draw visitors to your Condo while keeping the actual Plaza Arcade relevant for ticket grinding. 3. Condo Decoration & Interactivity The freedom is wild (love the Workshop support), but we desperately need to edit pre-existing map structures. - The Fix: Give us physics/visibility toggles for default walls, lights, and switches. If I don't want a wall, let me turn off its physics and ghost it. - More Interactivity: Condos need exclusive multiplayer items like rip-off board games, experimental minigame I/O tools that go beyond already-existing minigames to encourage creativity in game-making, and synced web browsers (to play Unity/Flash games together). Give players more of a reason to hang out in Condos as well to limit plaza crowding on high uptimes. The plaza should be a place to meet new people. The condos should be a place to enjoy people you already know.
Quick-Fire Improvements
- Vehicles: We need more drivable vehicles beyond the arcade scooters. - Casino: You should be able to see your neighbors' bets in horse-racing; there should be an option in the corner of the screen to toggle bet visibility if you want your bets to be private. - Lobby Connections: Give Condos (like Sunset Villa) a purchasable return door/portal back to the condo lobby or more integrated connections in-map (like Resort's trains). - The Boardwalk: Needs MORE excitement. Expand on carnival rides with the safety that video game physics brings (e.g., RollerCoaster Tycoon levels of nuttiness; roller coaster leaving the track-type sh*t). - Performance & Lobbies: Spotty performance and 64-player limits make the massive plazas feel dead and ancient despite overall plaza size. Consolidate plaza lobbies to hold up to 200 players and fix performance if possible. - Accessories: Workshop player models often bug out with hat/glasses rigging. Also, accessories need Workshop support (with curated, pre-downloaded databases to save performance). Exclusive game accessory categories can be preserved (like particle effects), giving players a reason to still want to purchase accessories aside from workshop ones. - Media Players: It's bad practice that we can't tie multiple screens to one volume control or sync playback across a room. Let us use non-YouTube URLs with full browser integration, relying on existing robust content filters for safety. - Theater: Add automated, G-rated documentaries (from BBC Youtube etc.) to attract spontaneous crowds, and broadcast global pop-up announcements for public showings - seen persistently via the TAB menu.

God, if I were in charge of this IP, I'd have a team cooking up a sequel in UE5 or something right now. I see the Anarchy Arcade and G-Mod DNA, but current limitations make long-term play frustrating or boring. A bit more interactive depth and an economy rebalance would easily make this one of the best social games on the market. Hit me up if you need an assistant creative director!
every time i launch this game after a "content update" i get my hopes up for a reason to come back to Tower unite, unfortunately to me it still feels like an early access game with very minimal actual content to enjoy. its such a disappointment now when all the holiday updates boil down to less than a handful of items you can buy with holiday coins and that's it. its a shame because i used to love it as a VRC alternative that i didn't have to set up a headset for. speaking of remember when there was supposed to be a VR update coming soon for Tower? guess thats never happening. minigames are dated at best barely redeemed by the fact that there's workshop support so thats the only positive from me anymore.
The game itself is neat but the devs/moderators are really weird and power trippy. It's probably the #1 complaint I've heard about this game over the past few years aside from performance issues. They even threaten that any posts made about bans or ban appeals will be removed, and any appeals the poster made will then be denied so that way no one can publicly criticize them and they can punish people for speaking out. It's real reddit moderator type stuff. If you wanna just enjoy the arcade or casino and not really interact with people then give it a go, but with red flags like these it starts to make sense why this game's community or player base never really grows despite how long it's been around or how appealing it might seem.
great game, lack of effective marketing made the game dead according to OG's. General Sam gave many awareness. Dev team. market. you're sitting on gold and not digging.
