Gibbon: Beyond the Trees

I love the idea of this game, but the execution is less than stellar. I love that I could finish it in one sitting and there's a "you can now play as Luigi" type unlock at the end. But more often than not, I found myself struggling to get my momentum back any time that I lost it. Like I could get up to a medium amount of speed, but it kept feeling like the levels poor design was throttling me and I could go faster if I only had more control over how to position myself. It felt like A game that would've seriously benefitted from some more player expression that it was 70% of the way towards achieving.

Super fun game with polished mechanics. The story is really beautiful and emotional, very informative and really inspiring. Highly recommend for a couple hours of fun and chill gameplay, and replay-ability is nice with the daily generated challenges that are fun to come back to now and then.

I played the story all the way through while it is short it doesn't take away from the emotion and heartbreaking atmosphere of the game. I feel like it was very educational depicting real types habitat loss caused by humans, harms of animal trade, and on a brighter note seed dispersal. I hope incorporation of education, and conservation through games.

C'est dans cet état d'esprit que j'ai lancé Gibbon. Le jeu transmet un joli message et sa direction artistique est réussie. Malheureusement, le gameplay manque de fluidité et devient parfois frustrant. À cela s'ajoute une durée de vie très courte qui laisse une impression d'inachevé. --- ✅ Points positifs ✔️ Direction artistique agréable ✔️ Beau message ✔️ Concept intéressant pour les amateurs de speedrun ❌ Points négatifs ❌ Gameplay rigide ❌ Durée de vie beaucoup trop courte --- Conclusion : Gibbon: Beyond the Trees n'est pas un mauvais jeu, mais je trouve qu'il lui manque du contenu et un gameplay plus agréable pour réellement marquer les esprits. Si vous le trouvez en promotion et que vous cherchez une expérience contemplative d'une soirée, il peut valoir le détour. En revanche, si vous découvrez ce genre de jeux, je recommanderais plutôt Gris ou Neva.

(1,5h played) Have a look, before buying. It is very short and it does look pretty, but it will get serious The game is good in conveying it's core message. While playing i was understanding the problem, so this job is well done. BUT as of writing this review for a game, i am not pleased in the quality of price and content, also for the sake of the story decicions where made, which (obv) reduced fun. So it's a hard pick for me. When i bought it in another store it seemed like a fun casual game. But it's not. I felt down afterwards, not chearful as i expected by the pictures and my (quick) look at the game. I also bought it for 1$ reduced and expected a polished casual game based on the trailer. All in all: The story was set up perfect So, the developers did a good job conveying their message, BUT i had hopes for a fun game with a less serious story. And the graphics look good.
