The smug and irritating devs of the "remastered" version mock the supernatural and do not respect the dead. a disgrace of the Ghost Master universe. cheap, worthless cash grab. AI usage involved, aggressive monetization. better to let the dead stay dead.
It looks better and plays better than the original. However, while a lot of the quirks of the original have been fixed, there's still many glitches and weird behaviour to be found. Unfortunatly, there's a general lack of polish to this game, including a ton of typos and many out-of-place, distracting AI assets. The AI artwork is especially bad - they often don't look anything like the original artwork, so it just look bizarre and sticks out like a sore thumb.
Okay, I am a massive fan of Ghost Master, I love it and used to play it all the time when I was a kid, and I even bought it on here and am playing it again, and I was surprised to find out that there was a remake, I bought it, and... the graphics are better, and that is really the only positive thing I have to say, everything else is almost exactly the same, but the one thing that is an extremely big negative that ruins the whole thing for me is the use of Ai, there is no excuse for that, that is just lazy!(the main menu literally has a giant freaking Ai generated image of a haunted house that looks terrible). If you have not played Ghost Master before and want to, do yourself a favor and just buy the original, its on Steam as well, there is no Ai slop in it, and it is significantly cheaper.
"Season Pass" that costs twice as much as the base game.
AI Slop
As engine is adjusted for modern PCs standards - game doesn't crash, doesn't stutter or something. Rest of the game like textures or arts are just thrown to free AI image generator and then put in the game without any correction or something to check if they even fit to art style or just doesn't look strange lol. I bought this for €3.50, but I still don’t think it’s worth it because of how sloppily the graphics were handled. They aren’t just mediocre - you can see unnatural elements that are the result of AI-generated graphics that weren’t even corrected by a graphic designer. I feel sorry for the people who paid full price. As a kid, I was absolutely obsessed with the original Ghost Master, easily beating it over ten times long before it even made its way to Steam. I vividly remember struggling with those complex, clever puzzles, which makes it all the more painful to see what they’ve done in Resurrection. Aside from the upgraded graphics, this remaster is a total trainwreck of broken mechanics, bugs, and sheer developer laziness that practically plays itself. It honestly makes me want to sit down and cry over what they’ve done to this cult-classic franchise. The most embarrassing and infuriating moment for me was seeing how they butchered the mechanics in the first Hospital mission, where you have to get the toy bunny to the child to free a ghost. Good lord, why on earth does the bunny magically teleport itself to the child if no mortal picks it up? What kind of hand-holding babysit-mode is this? Because of casualized garbage like this, the original campaign has become a total breeze that you can blitz through in a measly ten hours max. Instead of fixing the quirks of the original, the developers managed to introduce a flood of new issues. While the game is riddled with far more bugs than I can even list, one particular flaw stood out as completely game-breaking. The Mortal Ghostbreakers can now banish your ghosts from across the entire map and through different floors. For instance, I placed Lara (the Vapor ghost) on the first floor of the hospital. Suddenly, with zero warning, some Ghostbreakers walking down the stairs on the third floor triggered a red exclamation mark over my ghost, and I watched them trap her with a comical tractor beam pulling her straight through the ceilings and floors of the entire building. It was exactly because of bugs like this that I wanted to refund the game, but unfortunately, nostalgia got the best of me, I got sucked in, and I passed Steam's two-hour refund window. I’m kicking myself for it. To make matters worse, what they did in the DLCs is an absolute crime against the fan base. The original Ghost Master had one thing that was sacred and irreplaceable: a brilliant, iconic Polish dubbing that built the game's dark, satirical atmosphere and beautifully fleshed out the ghosts' backstories. The studio clearly smells of poverty now, because the voiceovers in the add-ons were generated by terrible, soulless AI. It sounds artificial, robotic, and completely dead. Honestly, I have a strong feeling that AI wrote the backstories for these new ghosts, their dialogue, and maybe even the entire concept of Resurrection. The DLC feels like an unwanted acquaintance who shows up to beg you for cash, and instead of saying "thank you," they just spit on your shoes. The lack of creativity in these expansions is staggering, relying on peak laziness where mortal characters are shamelessly copy-pasted from previous story missions without even changing their bios. The result is embarrassing; in the drive-in cinema mission, there is a literal duplicate of a character on the map, leaving you with two identical people with the exact same name and biography. Meanwhile, another character gets called into Joe's Diner for interrogation because of the bones found at the old lady's house in a main story mission, which makes absolutely no narrative sense. Scaring people in the original was great because we were doing it for a reason, but here, any sense of logic or narrative consistency is completely gone. Why are we constantly stuck in the same tiny town? We have a portal, so why can't the ghosts slowly take over new territories? Right now, I can drive mortals into absolute, gibbering madness, only to return to the map in the next mission to find everything perfectly fine and back to normal. This game won't survive on cheap jump scares and weaponized nostalgia, and it is already actively losing its grip.
low effort remaster, its just texture upscale. NPCs still can get stuck, so you lose time. Few more levels but still no new ideas, just repeating schemes from base game.
its a bit buggy but playable. i recommend waiting a bit until they actually improve the game visually. everything look better but the mirror reflection from the original have been improved (most likely by AI) so mirror ghosts are now being blocked by a "new and improved" low resolution reflection of the room. you wont see humans and the ghosts from the mirror and that is a issue if you try to unlock Tricia (she is invisible now) https://images.steamusercontent.com/ugc/18360685211442513969/D674D5BC44EABAAE6BF2FE33CDE7094667E184AD/?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=false and this is the mirror Dev are refering to https://images.steamusercontent.com/ugc/632981847287467253/CAD6D11536C98BF0BDF454258A87E2F406A82175/?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=false
