GEX Trilogy

It was the best game I never played. I feel like I played it through magazine pages. To be fair I haven't seen blasts like this since Taco Night at James Earl Jones' house. But seriously I haven’t jumped this high since I did oxyContin at Mel Brooks’ son’s bar mitzvah! To be honest l've always have had a soft spot for dumba*s characters who mainly spout pop culture references. No matter how dated. It's just funny to me. So who needs Bloodborne when you have the Gex Trilogy on Steam? Wait, what? There is a Gex game on Steam?! Alright, it's tail time. Before I go on though, note to self: don’t drink tap water at Jerry Garcia’s. People talk about the two great PS1 trilogies, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon, but everyone forgets about this one. The third one. The Gex series of games are amazing and I love all of the little additions that they made for this collection. They’re honestly so much fun and the jokes are so bad, they're good. I'm so happy to relive these wonderful games! As a Gex fan since childhood, seeing the wise-cracking, tail-timing, pop culture spewing geko now being released for a new generation and a new audience is great. Gex is MY favorite video game mascot of all time, and none to me have been able to beat his personality and style. As soon as I saw the trilogy announcement, I was HYPED. I had to be there. I bought the Tail Time Edition, and bought a digital copy to play on release. I absolutely love platformers from this era but Gex always had special meaning to me due to its unique semi-adult humor, great voice acting (Leslie Phillips/Danny John-Jules/Dana Gould versions available) and catchy level design full of pop culture references. Been playing it like crazy since it released. I had never played the first Gex, besides Enter The Gecko and Deep Cover Gecko, so it was great to finally play the first one to see where it all started and how it's evolution from 2D side scrolling, to 3D holds in place what I think is a defining moment in the series's transition. I'm glad these games landed on Steam in one convenient trilogy but without unecessary changes. New saving feature works perfectly fine and utilizes windows-designed folder for saves which is something I've never seen before. The games couldn't be any better than I had hoped, bringing back memories and fun, and being a blast to play in this day and age... BUUUUUUUT... I couldn't help but feel that a proper remaster or remake was in order. These games are great, but a remaster with updated visuals, sound, level design and maybe new lines by Dana would had been better suited, if not be separate from a port of the original games. I never experienced anything game breaking yet, but judging from other reviews, it is a bit rough for some, and I hope patches fixed certain unfortunate bugs and glitches for them. Which sucks, because I am very pleased with the game and I wish all 14 other Gex fans could've had the same experience as me. I would say the only thing that chaps my a*s is the camera-Oh. My. G(ex)od. It truly is a blast from the past, the camera is working for Rez, because it wants you DEAD. I can't tell you how many times in Enter the Gecko and Deep Cover Gecko I have to fight that b*tch more than anything in the entire game. It's not game shattering, but it is the most annoying camera I have dealt with in any game in the past few years, especially going on 25+ years after playing it Price may seem high for such oldies but remember that you are getting 3 games there so it's not that bad. Even if you don't have nostalgia for them, they are still solid games for their time regardless, if you're into that era of gaming. Normally I'm not buying games right on release day but in this case 25+ years was too long of a wait for me. I do think in some way, that this is a bit of a test by Square Enix to see if people are still interested in the series and if a new Gex game would be viable, which I hope happens. Can you imagine a Gex 4 today? It's been 25+ years since the last game, and there has been countless movies, shows, memes and the advent of modern internet is a prime candidate for so much pop culture references to be made in a potential fourth game. Time will only tell. At least I hope this brings us one step closer to a Rayman remake. My boi deserves his trilogy remastered too. I highly recommend them, if and only if you can deal with a game from another age, one that has been updated slightly, but want a good time with a pop culture, wise-cracking geko that is full of charm, then I would say give it a shot if it looks like something up your alley at all. Personally I got to see my favorite video game mascot rise once again, and I am satisfied with the trilogy port. Your choice, your decision. It's Tail Time, baby. Finally, I haven’t seen a review like this since margarita night at George Clooney’s house! 8.5/10

Another great platform series from my childhood. While I am glad to see it on Steam, it's a shame that it didn't get the remaster/remake treatment. They did at least add support for modern resolutions, so that helps a little bit. Hopefully this release might lead to something like that down the road but until then I'd still recommend checking these classic gems out.

АД Ж О П Ы С О Т О Н Ы Первый гекс, который двухмерный платформер, всё ещё хорош. Правда проходиться за пару часов, или чуть больше если возиться с планетой Х. Но вот трёхмерные части, это ад. Именно отсюда пошла дьявольская камера. И перекочевала она в легаси оф каин именно отсюда. Ибо после Гекса разарбы на своём движке начали ковырять первого каина, и всё последующее. Камера АД, управление АД, да и древнее три ДЭ, тут не получилось хоть чем-то интересным.

A nostalgic game, but coming from an abusive and mercenary company. Crystal Dynamics and Limited Run Games, you are a JOKE. A mercenary company that didn't bother to do decent optimization, but charges a totally UNACCEPTABLE price for a port of a 90s game. Constant frame rate drops, freezes at completely unjustified moments, audio often with delay. Even with the best resolutions and video card settings, there are problems that today's hardware would fix, but since the companies behind the game are INCOMPETENT and only think about money, this is what we have. The right thing to do is, PIRATE it, don't buy the official game because it's not worth the price these BASTARDS are charging. Limited Run Games, Crystal Dynamics, you are a DISSERVICE to the gaming community. The price you charge for a PORT is outrageous. You don't deserve the gaming community, you don't even deserve a Steam page for the ABUSE you committed with this game. 💩💩💩

Aside from Limited Run Games and the quality of the port, the games themselves have not aged very well. If you played it back in the day, you'll like it; if you didn't, you probably won't.

Para um port de PS1, isso ta mal feito. Zero Mudanças, quase zero conteúdo adicional, Conquistas Simples (que é só zerar os 3 jogos "100%" e um debug menu), Ele é muito caro, 170 Reais não vale a pena (e eu peguei na promoção que ta/tava 68 Reais), o conteudo que tem em outras versões, são só videozinho, e o pior, com um emulador de PS1 vc roda os 3 jogos DE GRAÇA. Logo, eu não recomendo, a menos que vc seja MUUUUUITO FAN dessa franquia (e que tenha dinheiros kek).

I'm really glad that this remaster was made. I really hope that GEX 4 comes to fruition one day...
