Its a good‑looking platformer with own style. Sound is ok, levels wont break your neck, and good sale price, totally worth it
After finishing the game, getting all the achievements, getting all the secrets, doing all the post-game content, and getting all the medals on all the levels except for the secret world because those no-hit medal challenges are BS, I feel like I've exhausted all that I can out of this game and can confidently say that it's a real hidden gem and a must-buy. Fun platforming gameplay with loads of skill expression and cheese potential, pretty and cute pixel art, nice music, especially on the last world, and loads of content. Like someone in the guides said, this game really opens up after you beat the main story, as it rewards you for poking around and exploring, be it special items that make the game easier, more levels to play, or world building, and after getting all of that, the game rewards you with a whole new character with its own unique moveset. It took me until I beat the main story to even discover that for every achievement you do, you get a new color palette for the player, and some achievements even give artwork that shows up whenever you boot up the game. Also, women, I can tell that the creators are very cultured individuals. Still, I have a few nitpicks about the game; for example, the sprinting in this game is poorly taught to the player. It's presented as "Press the sprint button to go fast" so that you can avoid projectiles, when in the actual gameplay it's more like "Let go of the sprint button to slow down" since most of the platforming is designed around the player going fast, and you need to familiarize yourself with how fast you can go in the easier early levels before reaching the later ones where it's mandatory to be sprinting. Another problem I have is with the opening of the game, as it lore dumps on you the history of the world when that won't be important to most people that are just starting out. Meanwhile, you don't get to know much about the protagonist, Belle, or the antagonist, Bonnie, when starting out and must get to know more by talking to NPCs. Which is a real shame since I think that the world the game takes place in is interesting, and the characters in it are great. All in all, a good game, and the devs have earned a new fan.
Commits the sin off too many things offscreen at once too often. Also was found guilty of 2 charges of camera following the character.
Kinda liked it at first, nice pixel art, nice soundtrack but I barely made it to the moon level. There's 4 things that ruin it for me. 1. The major issue is something I didn't realize until someone else mentioned is- This game is the mega man 7 treatment meaning the sprites are too big which increases tthe amount of cheap hits and deaths, not to mention the camera moves a lot more. That really bugs the crap outta me. It's a fun game starting out, but as it starts to throw everything at you it's extremely frustrating trying to avoid projectiles, pits, spikes, or accidentally hitting an enemy wrong because of the fov. 2. Difficulty ramps up wayyyyy more than I was expecting- and not in a good way. Checkpoints placed too far apart makes it even worse. Three hits per life, no way to upgrade that really hurts. I recently discovered that this game has lots of little secrets. Looked up a guide for the boss in the library was a huge pia only to discover there's a shield item that makes the fight a breeze. Except when I played the game I don't recall anything about this item being mentioned which stinks because now I feel stupid... 3. ...which makes me kinda annoyed because I actually want to like this game but it's like there's so much stuff that's not either explained well or not displayed front and center to get a better grasp of it. 4. The aspect of throwing your buddy to attack is fine, but there's no boomerang effect so if he goes off screen then you have to hit a button to recall him. Later on he's crucial its annoying to have to juggle enemies, pits and oh is my little dude here with me to attack or do I need to hit the button? If the game ever adds more toggles for more checkpoints and more hit points id definitely check it out again but for now I'm at the moon and I'm done.
A fantastic platformer inspired by Game Boy Color games. The main game runs as a story campaign that will have you visit several levels and also non-combat areas accross the map. The base campaign has a fairly nice length and difficulty level for most players, but beyond that there's still a ton of secrets, collectibles, quests and post-game content. For people looking for a challenge there's some tougher non-story related goals for 100% completion, as well as an unlockable shorter arcade mode, where you can further increase the difficulty through various available handicaps. The story has a lot to offer beyond the initial silly premise, thanks to the large detailed universe that Colorgrave has built for its games. There's plenty of pieces of lore scattered throughout the game in the form of people, books, signs and details, which will slowly reveal a larger picture of the world and its contents. Curse Crackers is perfectly good as an entry point to the franchise, although having played Prodigal first will let you notice some additional details.
A fun GBA-style platformer with a fun and fluid movement system, solid spritework, catchy (but short) music, and interesting worldbuilding. You can get a great sense of speed chain-bouncing your way through the levels while still feeling like you're in full control of your character. My only complaint is that some of the side quests were a bit obtuse, with some of them hard to even find in the first place (what do you mean that one specific bridge on the overworld is interactable!?).
A small platformer with a really satisfying moveset. I'm still at the beginning of the game but it is full of charm, the bell mecanic is quite interesting. The music is pretty cool, and overall I feel this game deserve a bit more of a spotlight. Also the animations are really cute, especially the enemies !
This is a great and fun platformer to play through with amazing music to go along with it. Although the side quests, the overall vagueness of everything in this game, the ridiculousness of the longshot medals are what detract me from saying it's a good game overall. I wish there was a mixed option but a positive review will suffice since i still enjoyed this game.
This one's definitely a hidden gem. Whether you want a breezy pleasant platformer or depth of side and post game secrets Curse Crackers delivers.
