I'm a thief and a liar and I think this game's awesome.
A fun little game, though a bit too hard perhaps, at least for me, but well worth the price.

I got it on sale for $1.49, so I guess I got my money's worth. Feels like a rough draft and has some problems that should have been caught quickly by ANY kind of quality control. Pacing is horrendous. Enemies get progressively stronger and come more often as you go, but the starting difficulty should be what you get about five minutes in. Limited ammo? Seriously? It hasn't REALLY been an issue, but it shouldn't even be one. Take it out and hope nobody remembers it. Unlockables are boring and uninspired. Lastly, there are some game-breaking glitches that occur because enemies can push each other around and some of the weapons can push back on enemies. In 90% of my games, I'll be fighting a boss only for them to get pushed outside the boundary of the screen. They no longer attack and I can't hit them, even if I could see where they are. They are still considered "alive" because the game no longer advances and enemy waves have slowed down. I can literally fly around for 30 seconds with no enemies on screen. There's no quit button either, so I have to wait around to commit suicide, or kill the entire application.
Generic Space Shooter can only be described a classic arcade shooter, its clearly influenced by Meteor and other games of that era. All I need now is trackball, a pint of mild and upright cabinet to complete the picture. Plus, top marks to the developer for fixing the initial Linux issues.
For three bucks, Generic Space Shooter is exactly what you pay for. It's a simple twin-stick wave clearing shooter where grabbing power-up isn't just a bonus, but how to survive. Unlike other twin-stick shooters, you have an ammo count and powerups temporarily disable the count from going down. Not a bad twist on an asteroid clone. If you like arcade shooters like asteroids, sinistar, geometry wars and the like, you'll get some entertainment out of the Generic Space Shooter. It's a good game to have on your laptop to kill some time during lunch and break.
Honestly this game isn't bad. but I also can't recommend buying it. As the name suggests, it's just a generic space shooter. With that being said, I didn't really see much of a goal to the game (other than surviving), and with the limited powerups in the game, I had already experienced everything this game had to offer within the first five minutes of playing. If you are just looking for something to kill your three dollars on, go for it, but for me, it just didn't feel like it was worth what I paid.
Awsome game!

The controls are not good. The boost/gas button is next to the shoot button on the mouse. This makes it hard to control the ship in hard situations. There is no way to change the controls from what I have seen. Also the escape button only pauses the app an it doesn't let me exit the app. I had to use command + control + escape to exit the app.
