The plot twists at the end were interesting & the art style was well above average. All the lore is there for a potential sequel as well if you care about that
So, I'm marking this as not recommended but I don't think the game is all *that* bad, like, 6/10 if I'm being generous, 5/10 if I'm not. The idea of the game is more intriguing than the actual output, but it's a very short game so it's not really wasting your time either. Passes the time, just not something I'd be like "man, you have to read this!" about. I think "wasted potential" is kind of how I feel. Because the game is so short, while it doesn't waste your time as I said, it feels like there could have been a lot more done with the setting, just giving things a bit more time to marinate. I think the main issue is it's sort of hard to believe in the characters having an effect on each other because the interactions wind up pretty shallow? Ostensibly, this is a game about twins, duality, and opposites, and it touches on those things without ever really going any deeper than surface level. Shinku is the most interesting and well-written character by far; Kikyo has potential but never really gets to stretch her wings the way Shinku does; Awasumi is very funny (and Pile Bunker delivers those comedic lines perfectly, as he always does) but ultimately quite static; and frankly Tsukishiro is just plain unlikeable but not even in a compelling way. They interact on a very surface level but again the short length of this is to their relationships' detriment, because none of it especially goes anywhere. I think in a longer format VN, the relationships between the twins and their respective guardians could have gone somewhere really cool, but Geminism just sort of burns out before it even starts. The ero scenes... I didn't find them particularly good. Granted, I have played quite a few eroge but I've never sat through one with a sex scene I was like "oh, that's hot!" about. They're just kind of there and just kind of boring. I wound up clicking through most of them because they weren't really adding anything either way (neither being sexy or any sort of relationship development) and the game is sparse enough on time as it is. It is objectively very funny to worry about a girl living a pure lifestyle after fingerbanging her ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ though. Presentation was really nice, there's no traditional sprite expressions but the cut-in style was very unique and cool. The game also has very strong vocal performances across the board, though I do have to say the girls felt a bit weaker than the men; Pile Bunker and Sumeragi Mikado are both at the top of their game, and if you're familiar with them you'll have a good time with them onscreen. Aside from that, there's not much else to say. Geminism is a game that I can't help feel died before it could truly live, and I think that's a real shame, because the concept was very interesting. I'd say if you're curious nonetheless, it's worth giving a read as it's inexpensive and short, but this isn't one of those must-play eroge experiences by a long shot.
a perfect Alice, an imperfect Maria Geminism is, just like the protagonists of our story, atypical - It's a short, quirky, strange but most importantly captivating visual novel. From the moment I started reading I was immediately allured by the sheer unconventionality of the novel itself, both in terms of general structure and story - The visuals are great, the VA work is fantastic, carried mostly by our two male protagonists whom you might recognise from other novels, and the soundtrack is very, very good. Thematically, dualism and the the general conception of there being two sides to the same coin is extremely pervasive throughout the novel, Geminism mainly explores themes of identity and individuality and how these fundamentally human feelings relate to the conditions that are irrevocably set in stone for us upon the moment of our birth - We can either trascend these notions entirely, or sink into it them and assimilate them as what they are. I don't know who I'd recommend this VN to as I wouldn't particularly say it exceeds in any single field, it's just that odd - But I think that's what makes it all the more better to me, and that notion in itself speaks more about the novel's message than anything else. As a closing note, I strongly believe that Geminism knocks tourist-tier Sayonara o Oshiete out of the water - and yeah, I guess girls with shark teeth are cute, that's probably why you're reading this review, right?
i love you awasumi
