Great game, great price, great gameplay! Tons of replay value. I used to play TDs a lot in wc3 back in the day, Gem TD was always my favorite for the combos, mazing, and RNG factor. You can tell this dev played that and loved it... such a faithful iteration of that gameplay style with all of the modern features you could want and getting updates consistently since its been released. Loving it, I know this will be a faithful game in my library for years to come just as is.
GemTD was one of the best tower defense maps in the old WC3 custom map days, and this is a good spin on that format. First off: If you are like me and have an incurable craving for the halcyon days of old tower defenses, this is worth buying at full price, 100%. In the classic game, random elements in gem selection and placement forced you to adapt to what you were given, preventing it from becoming too stale or easy to overpower. Even without Modern Roguelite twists, that means a good implementation of the basic ideas of GemTD has legs. This game also doesn't use the exact same set of gem properties (diamonds crit, topaz multihits, etc) and opts for a unique set of starting gems, so you'll be learning a new setup and not returning to the exact same thing we played in WC3/SC2 custom maps. Secondly, the dev here has put an EXCELLENT twist on the GemTD formula with the water mechanic and an increase in line of sight/line of effect/wall ricochet gems. Instead of flyers skipping your maze entirely and being countered by amethyst, flyers take shortcuts over water tiles which spawn around your gems. That means you are mentally juggling two different monster paths, plus detectors for invisible monsters, while trying to place gems well for damage zones. The end result of the fairly simple water tile mechanic is a DELICIOUS level of mazing complexity. Finally, there are builder perks and "Offer 3, pick 1" roguelite upgrades mid run, which also serves to give some build complexity. I have ten hours right now, but this is gonna eat my time. See you in a hundred more.
Played the demo a ton. Full game is insanely worth for a tower defense game boasting several characters with unique passives, 4 game modes, and a rogue-ish system to expanding your strength every run, letting you make 'builds' The developer is also steadily taking feedback on things.
Good game so far, especially for the price. It's hard to find interesting or unique tower defense games but Gem Miner TD is pretty fun and offers a lot of different ways to play, classic vs reforged for example depending how much you like the merge ability.

Pretty dope. Give it a go
solid tower defence
Gem Miner TD is one of the best tower defense games I've played since the Warcraft 3 days. Mazing really matters, there is fairly heavy run-to-run variance due to an appropriate amount of randomness, and the towers are fun and allow a lot of choice of strategy. I've been really enjoying the new "async PvP" mode. It's a run with preset modifiers so that everyone is playing with the same rules. At the end of the run, if you clear the final boss, you have the option of sending that boss to other player's mazes on the leaderboard. The boss loads into their maze with its health equal to the amount of damage you dealt. If it survives their maze, you beat them. If it doesn't, you lose to them. It continues this until it narrows down where to insert your current maze into the leaderboard. Usually it takes 3-5 runs until it finds your spot. You get to see other people's mazes, what strategy they went with, how lucky they were with RNG, etc. I think this is a wonderful way to bring PvP to the tower defense genre, as it's something that has been severely lacking for over 15 years now. While it doesn't have quite the magic that real-time PvP has, it's still a very fun feature that adds a lot of life to this game. The best maze I've had so far reached around #13 on the leaderboard, and it's quite a drastic climb up from that point. If you plan on going for top 10 or higher, prepare to have to put a good amount of work into taking advantage of small details of the game.
Best parts about the game:
- Mazing really matters. - Lots of build variety. - Performance is excellent. You can tell that the developer really knows what they're doing when it comes to handling the significant amount of calculations that larger tower defense games can have. - One of the rare tower defense games of the past 15 years with an enjoyable PvP experience.
Things I'd like to see improved:
- Enemy units are fairly forgettable, especially bosses. I'd like to see them have more interesting designs. - I originally felt that tower variety began to narrow a bunch around 8 hours of playtime. I felt like I was converging on the same towers repeatedly. It took me until around the 10 hour mark to realize that you can deselect up to 5 towers from the default loadout. After I found out that this was possible, the amount of strategy in the game opened up immensely. I'd like to see this made more obvious for newer players. - Some UI elements around some of the buffs/augments you get can become a bit cumbersome and cause a lot of extra clicking around to search for tower components, which towers have which buffs, etc.
WIshlist
- The async PvP mode implies that there will be "seasons". I hope that these coincide with balance and content patches so that players have to discover new strategies in the future. - Part of me wishes that the towers were 2x2, yet the enemy pathing was still 1x1, like in a lot of Warcraft 3 tower defense games. It's a bit more satisfying to maze with that sizing compared to everything being 1x1. Maybe this is just my nostalgia talking. - A "lower visual noise" setting would occasionally be nice to have. Some mazes get EXTREME with the amount of particles and flashes. Overall, very fun game with a lot of variety. I'm glad I happened to stumble across it. Good tower defense games are few and far between.
If u understand all the skills u my have fun but it needs work for new players it feels overly complicated. very very heavy on the RNG .gems most of the time are missing and u NEED the skills to move the GEMS.Mid game u need to be getting good towers but to do that u NEED good RNG or use skills thats ok if ur a pro but new player it gets old fast.About wave 10+ MOBS are bullet sponge heavy.
Good game, can kinda maze build, the water is annoying tho
