Will be alot better if they added bots in VS and horde mode.
It's crazy to think it has been 20 yrs since the first time most of us played Gears of War. It really doesn't feel like it was that long ago. But here we are, playing this old game for what must be the 30th time. Gears of War to me at this point is like comfort food. It's there when you need a good fix of masculinity, violence and gore. It's the always reliable game that gives you that wonderful adrenaline kick, something that nearly every game these days fails to do. After all this time, the game finally makes its way to Steam with the new Reloaded edition. I have some thoughts. The first thing I'll say is that the game is as good as ever. The pacing is very tight and it's over before you know it. It plays exactly how we all remember it and is like putting on an old pair of shoes. It's just comfortable and feels great. The performance I had as a whole was good, it sounded great and had no crashes, bugs or glitches whatsoever... except for one thing. Dom's AI is clearly broken! Yes, you read that right. They actually made Dom worse! In the original game, Dom managed to do some stupid stuff. He got in the way of the boom shots, threw himself in front of grenades and always found himself in the way of the Berserker. Regardless of his ability to explode, near enough on command. Dom was always there for us and that made him that special AI friend that always had your back. But in Gears of War Reloaded, he just doesn't do anything. Dom constantly gets stuck on walls, does not follow Marcus and the game ends up being you against the world. No back up whatsoever. The game isn't hard enough that this is a problem on normal difficulty. But I can imagine it makes the higher difficulty modes a right pain in the butt. Especially when the team is being swarmed by the smaller enemies. Sometimes you need that covering fire to help you through. Sadly, it's just not there. I'm surprised this hasn't been fixed. The other major grip I have with this game is the lack of gore. It's pretty obvious that they've cleaned the game up to be a bit more family friendly. Yes, the enemies still explode into chunks but the blood splattered is near enough non existent. Anyone who has played the original game remembers that satisfying explosion of red goop that painted every surface. Well, it's not here. It's also been removed from static wall textures etc. Everything just looks too clean and I really don't like that. Bring back the brain matter! Other than these two issues. I didn't have much of an issue. The game worked great on my computer. It's got plenty of graphics and accessibility options and it didn't have any issues with my Steam controller. For this game, I didn't use the right track pad. But that's because I've grown so use to the control layout that it felt a bit pointless. However, I would bet good money you could get a great layout for the Steam Controller here. For the sake of £20, I had fun and I'll no doubt play this again in the next six months. It's just how life goes. Despite the issues, I'd still recommend it. It's a great game, one that doesn't feel soft and sterile like modern titles, despite the reduced gore.
First time ever playing a gears game im finding it insanely fun
