"Gaze at Maze" has definitely no promising title. And the fact that the word "maze" is repeated like 20 times in a single Steam store page too made me think at first glance of this one as a failed indie attempt.. Well, it's really indie - the whole game is the result of the work of a single man, Anamik Majumdar, whom my historian senses tell me he comes from India. I love India! The game has a partial controller support - unluckily, I didn't make it out with my old light one.. clicking on the controls menu shows you a nice graphical introduction to all the buttons and such, but my controller wasn't answering well and yeah, all in all it's "partial support" so I went on with my keyboard. I usually play with a XBOX controller, the menu says right "XBOX 360 controller" so maybe it's because I was trying to play with another one this time.. I don't have that controller here in my room right now so I can just say that my cheap one wasn't working =P The keys are WASD, or the directional keys, stop. Yeah.. Anyways, you're right into the action from the very start - you'll play as a boy in a maze, with some health points shown on the upper part of the screen and your objectives on the lower left one - gems to collect, basically. The game works really like a maze (with some nice broken English by the way) - you'll have to reach the end of every single maze, collecting cubes and keys along the way. The game runs smoothly, and this is nice. On the other hand, two aspects are heavily negative - the soundtrack is totally annoying, and most of all the graphics are too crappy. I'm used to low-level graphics and I love retro games and such, but here I was seeing the same wall, the same light effects, MS Paint-like key designs.. even if we'll encounter soon robots, enemies and such, the whole game to me looks as if you're playing over and over the same level, the maze looks always the same and there are virtually no interesting elements. And the huge size of the maze, combined with the slow speed of the main character, makes everything tedious - you'll have to backtrack lots of times, and you'll never have a map which is, you guessed right, another downside. Never getting to own a simple map is definitely negative in my opinion, since the levels are long and the challenges are never that hard, the enemies are just things to avoid since you can't do anything apart moving and yeah, I missed the Pokémon run button.. or the GBA emulator speed option.. I found the whole experience boring, if I had to choose a single adjective. "Different kinds of items to collect like yellow, red and blue cubes" is nothing that keeps a potential customer close to this project, and yeah.. you'll be collecting cubes, and they will be.. poorly designed, at best.. the mazes will be filled with these cubes, you'll have to find the keys, avoid robots and little else for 22 levels in total. I liked the auto-save feature that the developer added some months ago, which at least transported us a little bit out of the early '90s when the SNES games had no save feature and you had to start them every single time over from the beginning.. but still, it looks utterly boring. I admire the single developer attempt to make a 2D old-school puzzle game, but unfortunately I really can't suggest this one to anyone. The controls are nice and you won't need a controller since the game never gets that hard, but overall everything gets extremely boring after some minutes of exploring/backtracking. As I said, it's great to see indie developers making games out of nowhere without taking assets or Unity pre-made games and such, and this game is for sure something that the developer made by himself, but the overall result is too poor to justify a purchase.. and even if it was for free, it's really boring after two or three levels in this awful maze that looks the same over and over..
Gaze at Maze, Is it a game?! Is it? Let's read the words the words, of House M.D. Gaze at Maze is an absolutely trash game. Simply, collect all the blocks, move in a weird maze of instant death. THERE IS NO SAVE. Dying after a few times means game over, but that's fine. BUT returning to the main menu, or basically stop playing for even a moment, means you lose all your progress ALL of it. So yeah, either speed rush it, or leave the computer open or don't buy this game. The third option is the smart one, just giving you a little tip there. 2/10 It's a game.
like how you gonna make a game that looks like this tr*sh and just call it "old school"
Gaze At Maze is a template flip from Anamik Majumdar, who keeps reskinning the same lame GameMaker Studio game template and re-releasing it on Steam with a few minor changes. The GameMaker Studio template he keeps re-releasing is just a basic retro pixel (couldn't he rip off a template with proper graphics??) 2D top down stealth/action game. Here's some other results of his copy+paste school of "game development":

Haunted Jail: Alcatas
Ghost in the Barn House
Gaze at Maze
Smash Halloween Pumpkins: The Challenge
The Chills
Gregor Hills Haunted Hospital
Jaxon The Thief
House Number 666
My Haunted Doll
Axizon Labs: Zombies
The Haunted Exmone Theatre
Rescue Rina
The Haunted Tunnel
Heltons Haunted Hotel
These are all basically the exact same GameMaker Studio game template with a different skin and a couple of things changed. No professional effort was made in terms of game development, using a game construction kit requires no game development talent, and unsurprisingly produces products that have little to no value as games, especially when compared to the work of professional developers who create genuine products for gamers. No matter how many times this guy copy+pastes the same game, it's not suddenly going to become anything but garbage. Rehashing the same game over and over again is just a cheap nasty cash grab.
recomendo.
bad
