The AI isn't just bad, it's seemingly non existent. Nothing I said changed the looping, and frankly boring, storyline.
Gary the Gull lives in a world that loops the same sequences and crashes a lot. A sort of tropical beach Groundhog day. He chats up the same lady seagull with the same line. Occasionally Gary goes into some sort of catatonic state and stands there like a rock waiting for you to say something. Nothing i yell at him makes the slightest difference.
ok its short, its silly (in a good way) but people seemed to have issues with crashes which i didnt. from a fellow dev i appreciate the 3d art, the environment, the animation and the sounds to include voice overs. its neatly tied together for a neat little experience. i feel a lot of the negative reviews are unwarranted considering its a free experience. I do receommend people check it out and support the devs. simply slapping a thumbs down on it won't do the VR community any good. give constructive feedback and support VR devs. that said here are a few things i think would improve this a bit. 1. the hands seem a bit far forward, maybe move them closer to the players actual hands. 2. the drawing mechanics with the stick need a bit of refining. when i tried to draw lines it would basically put small dots every inch or so instead of solid lines. i imagine thats due to the way the mechanic is setup. could use some work. overall funny little clip.

It's cute, it's pretty, it's a massive waste of about 3 minutes of your life. I get it, VR is new, every dev wants to test it out, but now the market is flooded with this half arsed VR experience s***. The interactive part is you throwing a flipflop at a seagull which just restarts the sequence. it plays like one of those old 'interactive video's' where the host asks your name, pauses briefly and then says generic line no. 572, "that's a great name!". And going back to the time, if you think this'll be fun for the children, well it's hadly 3 minutes long and honestly there are far far better interactive stories out there. and ignoring that, what person would allow a child young enough to actually enjoy this use an £800 piece of equiptment?
Played On: HTC Vive
Gary the Gull is a semi-interactive animated short where you're able to somewhat participate in the story; whether by moving your head, drawing in the sand, or throwing something at Gary, the main star of the story. The seagull is eventually joined by a friendly crab, and the two banter back and forth a bit until the crab bests you both. The game has some humor to it, though it will mostly be kids who enjoy this title to its full extent. Be warned, though, that this title tends to crash or refuse to close properly. It seems that no one, including myself, is able to interact with Gary by talking; it would eliminate a lot of the negative responses if Limitless Ltd would take this non-existent feature out of the store page. However, nodding and shaking your head do answer Gary's questions, though nothing that you do actually affects how the story plays out; again, unlike what is stated on the store page. Nonetheless, it is a humorous short experience, especially for a title that released in late 2016. You're not missing much if you don't partake in Gary the Gull, but if you find yourself with six minutes to kill or an empty library, give it a shot. This is my first review on a game ever so please bare with me. This game crashed once and wouldn't shut down when I tried quitting. It doesnt give you any instructions upon entering the game and the trigger does nothing, its actually the grip buttons which is weird for a vive game. The first time I tried playing, my character went through the floor. The game also restarted once it was done, rather than quitting. Apart from them cons, It's not bad for a free "game".
If they charged for this game I would have given it a negative review because it's so short. That being said, I don't understand peoples negative reviews. It's a fun little interactive video short that is a great first game someone should have into VR. Even if you have multiple games, it's just for laughs and it's decent with it's short story line. I'd reccomened it being free, and it does have good tongue in cheek humor.
