Garden Rescue is a TD game that has taken more than pinch of inspiration from the hugely successful Plants V'S Zombies (the original). Thankfully it is mostly just inspiration, Garden Rescue is more traditional in that the enemies follow a path, rather than strolling up garden "lanes". The enemies are insects, both flying and crawling, and they are trying to steal your strawberry plants, which generate your money. If they steal your plants, you loose income and also the ability to earn 3 stars on a mission. There's 7 different plants, each can be upgraded 3 levels to improve range and damage and 3 abilities which are dropped by enemies at scripted points on levels. Most levels comprise of increasing numbers of waves with plants and upgrades being purchased from the money gathered from your strawberries. There are however a few levels than deviate from this formula, again borrowing from PvZ where plants and upgrades are given at certain time points through the level, free of charge. The game is basic, as modern TD games go, the graphics are decent enough for an 8 year old indie budget TD game (ensure to enable widescreen mode in the options otherwise the game looks like garbage, it's not enabled by default), as are the sound effects, as for the music, it's basic. There are a total of 30 levels with 3 levels of difficulty and all achievements can be earned on the easiest difficulty. Beware that there is a bug, you need to complete all levels with 3 stars to earn 100% achievements and if you complete a level on a higher difficulty and only earn 1 or 2 stars, you cannot play the level on a lower difficulty and earn 3 stars, until you earn 3 stars on the same difficulty that you earned 1 or 2 stars on. As such I would advise not playing at the highest difficulty on your first run, play on easy or normal (there are plenty of video walkthroughs of normal difficulty, if you get stuck). Then once you have 100% achievements, give hard a go if you want the challenge. So, why have I given a thumbs down for this review, well it is for one reason alone, and nothing that I have previously discussed. If you go on Youtube and look at game play of a good TD game, you will find dozens of different combinations and play styles for each level, allowing for creativity and ingenuity, it's what makes such games fun. I've clocked over 6 hours playing Garden Rescue (granted some AFK) and I've played multiple levels (5, 7, 8 and 9) dozens of times at normal difficulty and each time there is only 1 or 2 possible solutions, given the number of "towers" and the number of placement spots, this doesn't make this a TD in my eyes, it makes it a puzzle game. I can't comment on Easy, I'm guessing that's what a lot of the reviews are based on, as IMHO playing at higher difficulty, you had better be prepared for a LOT of trial and error on most levels or be prepared search for the solution. I'm also very surprised to read in Origan's review that he thought this was better than Fort Defense, Royal Defense and Iron Sea Defender, I'd say all three were far superior and enjoyable to this.

Take one look at Garden Rescue's cute and colorful graphics, and you'd be forgiven for mistaking this for a children's only game. The game is good for children--nothing dies, everything's simple to learn, new towers and abilities are unlocked at a good pace, and the difficulty level is adjustable at your leisure without hurting your achievement progress. But I'm a grown woman who simply loves tower defense games, and I've played dozens of them. My review will grade Garden Rescue on these merits. Garden Rescue is simple to learn, but it gets surprisingly challenging in later levels even for tower defense veterans (I played on the hardest difficulty by default since I expected it to be an easy game). Your towers are various plants with creative abilities (a bell pepper that shoots fire, cacti that attack both land/air units, pumpkins that cause splash damage, etc.), and your foes are a variety of adorably dressed insects that either crawl or fly. You also get access to some abilities (a spring, bomb, and lawn mower) at particular points in each level. In an oddity for the genre, you don't make coins by defeating foes; strawberry plants produce them, and the strawberries are exactly what those thieving bugs are after. So if you lose a plant, you also lose a source of income. I never had an issue with this, but mostly because I'd restart the level if I didn't play it flawlessly since I wanted the achievement for 3-starring every level. If bugs do reach your strawberries, they uproot the plant and attempt to carry it back. You lose stars, but you can technically still save the plant (and its future income). If a boss reaches your strawberries, it's pretty much game over since they don't steal them, they eat them. Tower upgrades are simple. There's one upgrade path, and it mostly does the same for each tower: adds to damage and range. Unfortunately, you can't unlock new towers, upgrades, and abilities and go back to retry a level you've had trouble with, but at least you go into each level with the knowledge that you can beat it with what you have if you use the right strategy. You can dig up a plant and receive part of what you paid for it and its upgrades, which I found myself doing more so here than in other tower defense games. Like I said, the game gets surprisingly challenging on the hardest difficulty on the higher levels, and oftentimes I'd have to dig up air-only plants to prepare for a ground-dwelling boss or vice versa. Speaking of bosses, there are quite a few in the game, and some levels feature more than one. They have adorable designs, but they all share the same power: stomping the ground to temporarily stun your plants. Because of this and the fact that the game is fairly simple, some players may find it a bit repetitive in the later levels (there are 30 overall). Last minute tidbits: the music is simple but strangely addicting in an upbeat way. Even as I write this review, my foot is dancing to my memories of the beat. Some of the sound choices are a bit annoying--the bugs sound like children when defeated, and each wave is accompanied by some child-like cheering. As someone who doesn't find children nice to listen to, this was the only off-putting thing about the game. I half-expected to lose interest in Garden Rescue without beating it if only because it looked so tame and barebones. Instead, I 100% it in my 10.5 hour playtime and enjoyed every minute of it. There's not necessarily anything new here for us tower defense fans, but Garden Rescue is a surprisingly fun and competent addition to the genre. I'm someone who will try literally any tower defense game--years ago I played even the worst of them on Kongregate, mastering most, even shovelware--and Garden Rescue is one I'm proud to master. Additionally, I own Garden Rescue: Christmas Edition (must've bought a bundle), and I look forward to playing that one as well. If you're a tower defense fan who doesn't need twists and turns in your games, I suggest adding Garden Rescue to your collection.
good
非常粗糙的塔防游戏,玩了几关觉得没意思。
jakožto zahradník musíte chránit své jahody před vším hmyzem a můžete na to použít ať už hrášek tak minu. je to nádherná hra
Приятный Tower Defense. Не слишком сложный, не слишком простой. Приятная картинка и музыка. Ничего особенного, но пару вечеров скоротать можно.
not recommended. i bought this a year ago because my grandma had got it for me on her computer a long time ago when wild tagent was a thing. can't believe i thought buying this was a good idea. it's just plain boring. good for four year olds, but if you want a cheap distraction for someone (that is actually fun for older people too) get plants vs. zombies by popcap
At first this may appear a simple game of tower defence (for children?). IT IS NOT! This is the mistake I myself made when first playing. Under its peel you will find a deep and devastating re-telling of the Vietnam War. On the surface, Garden Rescue and the Vietnam War may seem entirely unrelated. Garden Rescue is a peaceful game that involves protecting plants and flowers, while the Vietnam War was a brutal conflict that claimed the lives of millions of people. However, there are some similarities between these two subjects that may be worth exploring. One possible similarity is the idea of tending to something over time. In Garden Rescue, you need to take care of your plants, providing them with upgrades to help them grow. In the Vietnam War, soldiers had to tend to their equipment and weapons, making sure that everything was in good working order so that they could carry out their duties effectively.Another similarity between Garden Rescue and the Vietnam War is the idea of sacrifice. In Garden Rescue you often need to sacrifice certain plants to ensure that the rest of the garden thrives. Similarly, soldiers in the Vietnam War often made personal sacrifices for the greater good, risking their lives for their country and fellow soldiers.Garden Rescue is an game that can be enjoyed by only young men, who possess the youthful reaction times while the Vietnam War was a conflict that also primarily affected young men. Garden Rescue is also a game which is best enjoyed in groups just as the Vietnam War was a collective experience that involved entire armies and nations. In conclusion, it is entirely possible to draw some comparisons between Garden Rescue and the Vietnam War, the differences between the two are too insignificant to make a meaningful counter-argument. Garden Rescue is a high stakes, high pressure game that can be mastered by few, leaving others with severe trauma, just as the Vietnam War was a violent, destructive force that had lasting effects on those who lived through it.Now, on to the game:The graphics are easily a 10/10, sometimes I look at the screen and forget I'm even playing a game at all.The plot is deep and emotive striking close to the heart of those who play it, I must admit, I shed a fair few tears as the game reached it's tragic ending. 9/10.The game play is extremely difficult to master with extremely difficult levels that even the finest geniuses of our time could not comprehend. It results in high stress levels and sharp increases in both heart rate and blood pressure. 11/10.The value for money of this game is incredible, paying only $3 to be immersed in such a meaningful and detailed universe full of love-able characters with their own unique firearms and other highly dangerous possessions. I would recommend requesting to pay more if you are considering buying this game, as it will make you feel more complete as a person, however it will unfortunately not fix your broken relationship with your father Matthew. If you want to fix that, I'd have to recommend the winter DLC. 12/10.Finally, I feel I must comment on the masterful level design in this game, the developers are truly one of a kind, in their unique ability to make such fun, varied and engaging levels which have a new unexpected twist with each new level. I particularly enjoy the tunnels as they closely parallel the dark and endless expanses that you have single-handedly formed between you and your father Matthew. 13.2/10.Overall, this is truly the best product you can find on steam and it is a must have on anyone's letter to Santa, or you could just buy it yourself if you weren't so broke. All things considered I would give this game a solid 6/10.
Gutes Tower-Defense-Spiel! MFG Timo
