This is a simple, short but relaxing RPG to play. The story pretty much is about the worlds different region/nations elemental gems being tainted by a darkness that is being summoned by a evil cult (sounds very Final Fantasy ish). You play as a young hero boy who escapes his hometown with his childhood friend after their gem was tainted by the darkness. You go to a nearby nation to see if the other gems can help yours recover its power. Along the way different allies from the different nations will join your adventure in stopping the darkness from spreading and destroying all the gems. What makes this game interesting is the different nations are represented by different elemental races, so the water gems nation are mermaid people and the fire nation are imp like people with fire hair, the wind nation are elf like characters. Each party member has their own element which will determines their powers and skills. Each character can equip armor and weapons to increase their stats. In this game their are items or gems that your characters can equip to give them stat boost, new abilities or perks. These items can also be leveled up to improve its effectiveness. Like I said before it is a short but chill game to play over a weekend or so. I recommend it and def worth a pickup if it is on sale. PROS + Interesting characters + Decent story + Fun customizing and game play CONS - The world is kinda dead (not many towns and they feel empty) and a bit boring to traverse - The game is super easy - Repetitive Soundtrack

This game contains about 17 hours of gameplay. The battle system's very traditional, which is a plus for fans of JRPGs IMO. Unfortunately, the story is not very good and the characters are unlikable.
Story is decent; could do better with a little bit more polishing here and there. Battle system is classic JRPG with quartz system (it's actually a good system!). At this price, I'd absolutely recommend Gale of Windoria for JRPG fans out there :)
I really like this game, it's simple but it's been great so far.
Consider this game's price to include the dlc. It's a slog without changing the encounter rate. otherwise really good game. one of the better hit point/kemco RPGs
Gale of Windoria is a classic fantasy JRPG developed by Hit-Point Co., Ltd. and published by KEMCO, offering a nostalgic adventure that draws inspiration from traditional role-playing games while introducing a handful of creative mechanics to keep the experience engaging. Set in a world where the powerful Tetra Quartzes sustain life and prosperity, the story begins when these sacred crystals become corrupted, plunging the elemental nations into crisis. Players take control of Shan, a young hero determined to restore balance and save those he cares about, embarking on a journey that spans multiple kingdoms shaped by wind, fire, water, and earth. The narrative follows a familiar structure that longtime JRPG fans will immediately recognize, but it remains enjoyable thanks to its likable cast and strong sense of adventure. As Shan gathers companions from different regions, the story gradually expands from a personal mission into a larger conflict involving the future of the entire world. Character interactions are warm and sincere, helping the party feel connected despite the relatively straightforward plot. While the game does not attempt major narrative surprises, it succeeds in creating an appealing fantasy atmosphere that encourages players to continue exploring its world. One of the game's standout features is its emphasis on travel and exploration. Rather than simply moving across a conventional overworld map, players gain access to the Beakle, a unique flying vehicle powered by wind energy. This mechanic plays a major role throughout the adventure, as new upgrades allow access to previously unreachable locations. The gradual expansion of exploration options creates a satisfying sense of progression and makes the world feel larger and more dynamic. Discovering hidden areas, revisiting older regions, and unlocking new routes gives exploration a rewarding purpose beyond merely advancing the story. Combat is turn-based and easy to understand, yet it offers enough strategic depth to remain entertaining throughout the campaign. Central to the battle system is the Quartz mechanic, which allows characters to equip magical crystals that grant special skills, elemental attacks, passive bonuses, and support abilities. Experimenting with different Quartz combinations becomes increasingly important as stronger enemies and bosses appear. The customization system encourages players to adapt their strategies rather than relying on a single setup, providing a welcome layer of tactical decision-making that enhances the overall gameplay experience. The elemental theme extends beyond combat and is integrated into dungeon design and environmental interactions. Various obstacles and puzzles require the use of specific elemental powers, helping break up the flow of battles and adding variety to exploration. These moments are generally simple but effective, making the elemental abilities feel meaningful throughout the adventure rather than existing solely as combat tools. This design choice helps strengthen the game's identity and reinforces the importance of the world's elemental balance within both the story and gameplay. Visually, Gale of Windoria embraces a colorful pixel-art style that pays tribute to classic role-playing games from earlier generations. The environments are detailed enough to create a sense of place, while towns and elemental regions each possess their own distinctive appearance. Character sprites are expressive, and the overall presentation successfully captures the charm associated with retro JRPGs. Accompanying the visuals is a pleasant soundtrack filled with adventurous melodies, emotional themes, and energetic battle music that complements the game's fantasy setting without becoming repetitive. Despite its strengths, the game does have some limitations. The storyline relies heavily on familiar genre conventions, and veteran JRPG players will likely predict many of its developments long before they occur. Certain portions of the adventure can also feel somewhat repetitive, particularly when revisiting similar dungeon structures or dealing with occasional difficulty spikes that encourage additional leveling. Furthermore, players seeking groundbreaking mechanics or a highly cinematic presentation may find the experience somewhat modest compared to larger modern RPG productions. Even with these shortcomings, Gale of Windoria succeeds at delivering exactly what it sets out to achieve: a charming, old-school role-playing adventure with enjoyable exploration, satisfying character growth, and accessible strategic combat. The combination of airship-style travel, extensive Quartz customization, elemental puzzle-solving, and classic storytelling creates an experience that feels both comfortable and rewarding. It may not revolutionize the genre, but it demonstrates a clear understanding of what makes traditional JRPGs enjoyable. For players who appreciate retro-inspired role-playing games and want a lengthy fantasy journey filled with exploration and character progression, Gale of Windoria is a worthwhile adventure. Its engaging world, solid gameplay systems, and nostalgic presentation make it one of the stronger entries in KEMCO's RPG catalog. While it occasionally plays things safe, the overall package remains entertaining from beginning to end and offers many hours of enjoyable adventuring. Rating: 6/10
