9/2/2019 Looks like where the game is now is where it shall remain based off a discussion with LInsoDeTeh. He did fix one last bug I reported but development is considered finished. 2017 Review If you enjoy sand box games, creativity, or working mechanics to produce a result.. you will find many lost hours here. I won't lie, this game was a little confusing at first which left me not really wanting to play. I watched the video tutorials by the developer, checked out the wiki, and searched the web and steam forums but still found myself lacking in much information. The things I questioned, the developer happily not only answered but explained in details. I decided to compile a guide with information to help newcomers get started a lot quicker than me. As well as included details about the achievements. Once I got the hang of things I quickly became consumed by accumulating the whole world, building automated systems and producing as many resources and cash as I could to level my world. And mind you, the world feels endless so far. I really enjoy that you can basically collect almost everything you destroy, minus resources that require building a Mining Tower to collect. I forgot to mention this when I initially wrote my review, one major positive for me is that you can construct your things in any of the materials/textures you collect. I love having that kind of variety. There are "ship yards" in the open world to salvage random pieces and parts. Four AI factions with different resources and plans to collect and learn. As i have explored my world while i encounter some buildings from the same factions, they don't look exactly the same, but are made of the same materials so I can gather them if needed for reproducing in the Research Lab. The missions seem pretty cool. Scattered through the world at notable looking structures. Giving you something more to do besides harvesting everything. I have not had the pleasure of PVE team missions or PVP arena as I haven't found anyone to play with. So you guys should pick it up and holler :D: The only real negative mark for me is that even with running a decent system (specs below), I get a lot of delays. Not enough to deter me, but sometimes it does give me PMS and sometimes it just straight up crashes and exits. Most notably if i pan to my base too quickly without a hesitation the game exits. Probably cause of all the stuff I have going on there. Also has seemed like, the more i have built, the more i have automated, the more ships i have gathering crystal resources, the bigger the delay is when i manually click on blocks to collect them with my ship in range to loot. I can click out a whole asteroid with no delays if my ship is not in range, but then there is a large delay when I bring the ship in to auto "vacuum" up the blocks. I suspect its the game waiting to catch up with what just happened. System: Mobo: Asus x99 Deluxe CPU: i7 5820K GPU: duel GTX 970 EVGA Superclocked RAM: 16x Corsair Vengeance LPX HDD: 4TB WD Black + 1TB WD Black Monitors: one 27" + two 23" LED, 2ms Keyboard: G910 Orion Spark Mouse: Trackball (Kensington Orbit) OS: Win 10 All in all I recommend this game if you are into this genre. If you are looking for quick achievements this is not for you.
I find the concept of this game to be promising; at this early stage its hard to tell if it will be great or if it just could have that feel of how it could have been great; The biggest drawback i have had is the initial learning curve its very hard to understand how to do simple tasks and the tutorial such as it is is next to useless. But with time and refinement this game concept could become amazing. I recommend the developers take a look at a space RTS game like Homeworld and give some thought to how they may integrate these concepts in a true 3D space environment rather than a pseudo 3D - 2D one as they have now. I wait eager to see the direction you take this game as it grows.
Updated: April 26, 2018 * Been over a year and no significant improvements noticed. * Abandoned?? "DEPOTS Updated: 6 Nov, 2017 (171 days ago)* Changed vote to NOT RECOMMENDED from NEUTRAL with Early Access caveats. Original Review: March 23rd, 2017 Bought a key in as part of an Indie bundle. Bottom Line: <NEUTRAL VOTE>. I all but rage quitted. :) So, why the upvote if I'm quitting after 4 hours? Because my difficulties with the game are more due to me, less about the products advertised functionality. If you like Early Access games and are community minded, go for it. This game has a lot to offer. If you're easily frustrated by having to figure things out, hunt for information or lack of controller support, I'd avoid this game until its updated further. In my 4 hours of play, over 6 game sessions... I barely made it out of the tutorial and have all but rage quit for the next 6mo to 1 yr. (Waiting for updates) My motivation to try the game at this time was to help a friend who wanted to knock out some of the coop achievements. I thought I'd jump in and lend a hand... No good deed goes unpunished. lol From the first min of gameplay, I found myself getting frustrated with the controls and lack of easily found documentation for the keyboard controls. My friend shared the same frustrations... but found the game quite fun after she did learn the controls. And with the other reviews and discussion posts, those who tough it out and have learned the controls, are reporting the gameplay very rewarding. Pros: - Dev is active and helpful in the Discussions. - "Seems" to provide what is offered in the description, trailer, images. (I never tried the online/co-op features). - The performance was stable on my [i7, Win10x64, 16GB, GT 960 2GB] rig. - Video/Tutorials Cons: (For me) - Controls are keyboard only. Feels clunky - KB shortcuts are not intuitive - No Keybinding support <at the time of my play> - Documentation for key controls has to be searched for. - Early Access growing pains.
While I have not got to the possibly exiting part of the game, it has serveral problems. -The UI is terrible; The core-concept of this game is building your own ships, but the controls in the ship-building are so bad its no fun. (rightclick to build works different depending on what kind of block you want to build, and leftclick to remove seems to only works if you are about "to place" blocks; also there are "fog" blocks to build your ship from, which are transparent in building mode, but opaque if the ship has been build.) -It crashes very often. I can't (yet) recommend this game, while it does have potential; and I'm keeping an eye for its developement.
Crashes consistently on running tutorial or starting new game in full screen mode. "XNA Framework Reach profile supports a maximum Texture2D size of 2048." If you switch to windowed mode it works, but then apparently the button for returning to the main menu isn't wired up? Also holy dithering Batman.
build any thing you want in this space RTS open world game! what to biuld Starcraft battlecruiser? go for it! want to build the ships from Faster Then Light? do it want to build a Star Destroyer? sure! what im saying is... you can build your own units! the newest update has fixed the lag problems with windows 10! this game is extremly fun minging space rocks are even fun!
I found this game to be unplayable, as I was unable to continue beyond the start of the tutorial, because the ship construction locked up. I admit that voxel games aren't really my thing, but I found this user-unfriendly behaviour most unsatisfactory. The tutorial is either bugged or very badly designed. I cannot comment on the full game, as my experience of the tutorial left me not inclined to proceed further with the game. I have therefore requested a refund. As the game was for sale at 90% off, it only cost me £0.69, but it's the principle of the thing. I do NOT recommend this game,
+ Good Idea + Cool building stuff - Bugy Gameplay - System failures Not woth the money at the moment
