Just boring
I was extremely disappointed with the scam they called Elemental: Master of Magic, was promised two DLCs to make up for it, and was given one really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ stand alone product instead. So I went into GalCiv 4 with rock bottom expectations and I am happy to say they have enthusiastically met expectations. The game plays like a spreadsheet, the ships are nonsensical, unrecognizable geometry, the UI is a convoluted mess of meaningless iconography, all the descriptions are a word salad worthy of a mental breakdown, any attempt at a story or any identity whatsoever has been eschewed for something far more sterile. Most of the game is just hammering "next turn" harder than a dollar store prostitute trying to force your mostly invisible ships to their destinations while trawling through a tech tree written in a language I don't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ know, all while playing a Catan mini-game in a futile attempt to not ♥♥♥♥-♥♥♥♥ your planets into bankruptcy. No decision is informed, ever. It says some ♥♥♥♥, but ♥♥♥♥ me if I know what any of it means. I never did figure out the mechanical difference between a totalitarian flogger and a nihilism flogger. Every ship has like a trillion hardpoints to attach weapons and none of them ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ work. You need a frigate class ship to bombard planets, not because it has any special weapon attachments...it's just because it's a frigate. A frigate with lasers is just as good as a frigate with a butter knife and neither of them have planetary bombs. Space combat is a scripted affair delivering the promised pre-generated outcomes with pinpoint accuracy, and you have the ability to shoot things outside of space combat for some reason? Frankly, you can see all the unattached strings of Brad Wardall's hopes and dreams tethered off to brightly colored paintings of circles with the word "balloons" written on them, which is kind of the delivery Stardock *should* be famous for at this point. The idea is there, but much like first love, it's embarrassingly premature. Which is really sad, because every game Stardock has put out is right smack-dab in the middle of the genre I want to play and yet every game has been a travesty of that genre. It's been 15 years since my last Stardock purchase after that War of Magic burn, and I can say with assurance it'll be another 15 before my next Stardock purchase.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,419 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

these guys really want £60 off me now for the promise of a dlc in TWO YEARS, are they out of their minds? overpriced and not available, it's beyond mental
As a long time player of the GalCiv series, there is a lot of commonality between GalCiv 1 and 4. The new planetary districts and adjacency bonus work well and offer constant decision making. Freighter and Supply ships adds a new dimension to the civilian economy. The race creation AI is a game in itself. I tried to make a Borg style race and the AI nailed it. Very cool. Stardock kept the best parts of the GalCiv series, made them better and then added more cool stuff. I played the base game for 100 hours and now I am going to buy the expansions.

Best game in the milky way!
multiplayer crashes before loading for having random species. tired of these games constantly having bugs that developers never bother fixing and half the time its their fault like anti-piracy coding or dlc checking for ownership in multiplayer. First multiplayer game, and game glitches out and gives no ideology discount for my civs starting trait. Now I am not allowed to edit one of my custom civs or copy it the buttons are greyed out. This civ is not in any current matches or anything. Game lacks clarity and decent ui. Civ traits should state what a technology or building does. You should not need a wiki before playing the game. Most of the dlcs are cash grabs with minimum content. Balancing updates for multiplayer are placed behind dlc. Do not buy the dlc and just play with friends only the basegame. Do not give these money grubbers any more money. Wait for a sale and only buy base game.
sehr langatmig
Not good at this. Better than GCIII, and I have had a ball just playing, without worrying about results. This has Civ's age old issue of late-game boredom. I think better up-grades and terraforming new hexes would help. I enjoy this game because I can just play... and not get overwhelmed... I do need to understand the tech tree better. Seems it could be presented better, but... it's complex.
Galactic Civilizations 2 was my start. GalCiv III was a staple and played forever. So what could be better? Galactic Civilizations IV!!! More, better, prettier and almost the same. Everything a sequel should be. No changing of mechanics you knew. No altogether different way of doing things. We all hate that in a sequel (looking at you Final Fantasy 1-26). Recommended buy if you liked Galactic Civilizations III. :D
