Fur and Fangs is a colorful co-op roguelike that combines fast-paced combat, survival mechanics, and light RPG progression into a chaotic multiplayer experience centered around animal heroes battling endless swarms of enemies. Developed and published by ASG, the game embraces a simple but effective formula where players fight through increasingly dangerous waves of hostile creatures while collecting upgrades, improving abilities, and trying to survive long enough to overcome stronger enemies and bosses. While it does not radically reinvent the roguelike genre, the game succeeds through accessible gameplay, energetic pacing, and entertaining cooperative chaos. The premise is intentionally straightforward. Players take control of animal warriors tasked with defending their homeland against invading mouse armies and other dangerous enemies. The story itself remains fairly minimal and mostly serves as a backdrop for the nonstop action, but the game does not pretend to be heavily narrative-driven. Instead, Fur and Fangs focuses almost entirely on gameplay progression, combat experimentation, and replayability. This direct approach works well because the game quickly throws players into battle without overwhelming them with complicated tutorials or excessive setup. One of the game’s strongest qualities is how approachable it feels from the start. Combat mechanics are easy to understand, movement remains responsive, and the overall structure allows players to jump directly into action within minutes. Runs revolve around defeating enemy waves, collecting experience, selecting upgrades, and gradually transforming characters into far stronger versions of themselves. The pacing rarely slows down, which helps maintain excitement throughout most sessions. Combat itself is fast and satisfying. Attacks feel responsive, enemy swarms create constant pressure, and the gradual escalation of difficulty keeps players actively engaged during longer runs. Like many roguelikes, the game heavily relies on upgrade choices during gameplay. Players can improve damage, increase survivability, unlock special abilities, or create powerful synergies that dramatically change how runs unfold. Watching weaker characters evolve into devastating combat machines over the course of a session creates a satisfying sense of progression that encourages repeated playthroughs. The cooperative multiplayer is easily where Fur and Fangs shines the brightest. While the game can be played solo, the experience becomes significantly more entertaining when played with friends. Four-player co-op transforms ordinary survival encounters into chaotic and often hilarious battles filled with desperate revives, overlapping abilities, and constant teamwork. Coordinating upgrades, helping overwhelmed teammates, and surviving massive enemy waves together creates the kind of social unpredictability that makes multiplayer roguelikes especially enjoyable. The game also includes permanent progression systems that reward continued play even after failed runs. Resources earned during gameplay can be used to unlock upgrades and improve future attempts, giving the experience a steady sense of long-term advancement. This balance between temporary in-run upgrades and persistent progression helps soften the frustration of failure while encouraging players to continue experimenting with different builds and strategies. Visually, Fur and Fangs embraces a bright cartoon-inspired style that fits the game’s lighter tone extremely well. The animal characters are expressive and memorable, while enemy designs and environments remain visually readable even during the most chaotic moments. The graphics are relatively simple overall, but the colorful presentation helps the game maintain charm and personality. The contrast between cute character designs and frantic survival gameplay gives the experience an enjoyable arcade-like atmosphere. The soundtrack and sound design support the action effectively. Energetic music helps maintain momentum during combat while attack sounds and enemy effects provide clear audio feedback throughout battles. The audio presentation is not particularly groundbreaking, but it complements the game’s fast-paced structure well enough to keep the gameplay feeling lively and engaging. Another positive aspect is the game’s pacing. Fur and Fangs avoids unnecessary downtime and keeps players focused almost entirely on action and progression. Runs move quickly, upgrades appear frequently, and enemy pressure escalates at a satisfying rate. This structure makes the game especially suitable for shorter sessions where players want immediate action without long periods of preparation or complicated inventory management. However, the game does reveal some limitations after extended playtime. Enemy variety and gameplay depth can begin to feel repetitive because the core structure changes very little across runs. Although different upgrades and co-op combinations help create some variety, the overall gameplay loop remains fairly straightforward. Players searching for highly strategic systems or deeply complex build experimentation may eventually find the progression somewhat shallow compared to larger roguelikes in the genre. The smaller indie budget is also noticeable in certain areas. Some animations feel simplistic, environmental variety is somewhat limited, and the overall presentation lacks the polish seen in more established roguelike titles. The gameplay remains fun despite these issues, but the experience occasionally feels rough around the edges. Solo play is another weaker aspect. While the game is still enjoyable alone, much of its personality comes from multiplayer interactions and the chaos created by cooperative teamwork. Playing solo removes a large portion of the unpredictability and social energy that makes the game stand out. Players who primarily enjoy single-player roguelikes may find the experience less engaging over time compared to those regularly playing with groups. Despite these shortcomings, Fur and Fangs succeeds because it fully commits to accessible, fast-paced multiplayer action. It understands that not every roguelike needs overwhelming complexity or endless mechanics to remain entertaining. Instead, it focuses on delivering quick cooperative gameplay filled with constant combat, satisfying upgrades, and replayable survival runs. For players who enjoy casual roguelikes, co-op survival games, and colorful action-focused experiences designed around teamwork and repeatable progression, Fur and Fangs offers a fun and approachable adventure. It may not compete with the genre’s most polished or mechanically deep titles, but its energetic gameplay, enjoyable co-op design, and satisfying progression systems make it an entertaining indie roguelike worth experiencing with friends. Me and my buddies have been absolutely hooked on this game since release! Does get a bit too easy after a while so we'd love for it to develop further with more characters, challenges and maps! 10/10 would definitely recommend!
