Friss Staub, verhasster Gegner! GIBTS NICH`! Es gibt Staubsoße und Staubpuder dazu, was dachtest Du denn? So. One of my favourit Developers is FRONTLINE GAMES SERIES. This Dev brings back good old Memories with his PANZER GENERAL and BATTLE ISLE like Series. He made 5 great Games about World War 2 in different Places of this War and also with different Factions. I already played and reviewed 3 of the 5 Frontline Games, so don`t wonder, i used Parts of my other Reviews. Welcome to FRONTLINE: WORLD AT WAR Old School Round by Round Maps in Hexagon are waiting for you, sorted in 4 Campaigns and some DLC Missions in a Real Events Timeline from 1939 to 1945. This Time the Maps are very big but always clearly arranged. Also new, the Fog of War. To beat Enemy Units, you have to set them free, to see what you are up against. Nice Done. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3134065977 The Graphics are again handmade and very nice done and every unit very detailed shown, so that you have never Problems to differ them, no matter how many you are commanding. Not every Unit is available from the Beginning. Like in the Real War some came later. But for all one thing is important. Lead them wisely through the Maps and raise them to get more and better Abilities. Know your Units and let them work together to get the maximum Effect on your Way. Once again you will also fight Historical Battles and it is up to you, how you do this. You have the Tools, the Way is yours. Plan your Strategy and use your Units carefully. With Experience they will raise and are able to get new abilties that will make your Way much easier. Keep in Mind that your Enemy will not sleep. Take care of your Units and there are over 350 different historical Units in the Game. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3134066258 The Gameplay feels again like a wonderfull Mix of PANZER GENERAL and BATTLE ISLE and a little bit of RISK, three Games of the Past i really, really like. FRONTLINE:WORLD AT WAR has a very good user interface with Zooming and more. You move your units Round by Round and have always an eye on the sphere of influence of your Units and of course the Enemy Units. Don`t stumble with a weaker Unit into Artillery Fire. Please not. Also have an eye on your Mission Targets. Conquer to get ressources and use them wisely. The Music is again very atmospheric and as someone who really likes Game Soundtracks, i like this one. Well done again. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3134066381 In the first Moment FRONTLINE:WORLD AT WAR looks really complex but is very Beginner Friendly. Take your Time to dive in and soon you will be addicted. For the more advanced Player, change the Difficulty and have a great Challenge like in good old Days. At last, what can i say. I really, really enjoyed my Time with this Game. Again it is a One Man Project and he has my greatest Respect for his Work. Thank you again for inviting me. It was amazing. So, dear Reader if you are searching for very good Round Straregy Game in the Tradition of RISK, BATTLE ISLE and PANZER GENERAL, then this is for you. Thank you for Reading.
Frontline: World At War is the latest Installment in the long-running Frontline-Series from an dedicated One-Man Development Studio and once again offers classic Turn-Based Hexfield-Battles in the World War II-Setting on the Side of the Axis or Allies. Although there is no manageable, consistent Core-Army as in SSI's "Panzer General" from the 90's, the tactical Battles of the individual "Operations" and the "Grand Campaign"-Missions are impressive in their Map Size and the Variety of Units (over 350 included). Their beautiful and detailed Ingame-Models are also appealing on the zoomable Maps. Commanding the Army and utilizing the Special Abilities of the Units, surrounding & flanking the enemy, capturing essential Resources and Enemy Cities is almost as much fun as in the aforementioned PC-Classic from the famous American Developer SSI, even if the Fronline-Series hasn't the tight Turn Limit and deeper Mechanics. Another positive Aspect is the continuous Improvement of the Gaming-Experience through further Updates, which brought more Ease of Play and additional Features, such as complete New Air Units and their AA-Counterparts on the Ground, to the Game after its initial Release. Crisp Battle Sounds and the included Radio Station, which broadcasts Messages from the Front (and plays some nice Soundtracks), are very conducive to the Battlefield-Atmosphere. Frontline: World At War is too easy for the real "Hardcore-Strategist" due to the "Beer & Pretzels"-Gameplay and it's simplified Supply-System. But I can recommend the Title to Newcomers of the Turn-Based Strategy-Genre or the Afterwork-Generals due to its forgiving Level of Difficulty and the overall good Gameflow it offers. For the Price of 10 Bucks they will get surely some entertaining Hours on their Clock.
This game has potential once it is finished, but for now it is just a shell. There are no defined Country borders, no diplomacy, no air units in the campaign mode, and no definitive manual to explain units and game play. It is akin to an old SSI game Storm Across Europe and Panzer General, but again it is unfinished. The units available in the game are rendered well. Don't bother with this until it is done. I believe the designer and publisher are trying to drum up funds to put into this, but as it stands now it is just a sandbox game, without a goal for the player.
Having played the original 'Frontline: Road to Moscow' and 'Frontline: World War 2' before, I confidently entered into the Campaign mode. Started with Blitzkrieg 1943. It was an overwhelming experience playing as Third Reich (Germany) in the European map mode and being surrounded by Allies (UK, USA, USSR) on all sides with their armies pushing me towards Berlin. Again, it will give you the kick if you love turn-based warfare using a plethora of different weapons. Yes, your initial choice of weapons purchased does matter. Campaign maps are enormous. Very wide range of weapon choices available to start with. Areas of Improvement: (subject to budget & time constraints considering this is a one-man effort) 1. Without Air and Naval combat, this offering is incomplete. Please see if they can be included especially in Blitzkrieg campaigns. (I totally understand the increased complexity & load considering the enormous amounts of weapons already included) 2. Many requests have previously being cited about including other theatres (Asia, Africa etc.). Maybe try it out. To summarise: An awesome buy at the offered price.
Immersing players in a captivating World War II setting, this game provides an enjoyable tactical turn-based strategy. The visuals are not only pleasant but also boast distinguishable unit models. Welcome back !
The Dev got upset with me when I asked a tiny little thing, present in most games, wargame or not: if there is a SAVE system. Know some people can, some can't save - I'm in the latter group. Own EVERY Frontline game - uninstalled them all immediately.
Great little turn-based wargame which tries to walk in the shoes of the old classic Panzer General with some nice ideas like the clouds as fog of war and the resupply with trucks. I hope the developer wants to put some more work into it because it needs some polishing, balancing, content and some performance fixing (My FPS drops to a constant 10 FPS at the campaign 39 after the occupation of Warsaw, so I have to restart the game). So I´ll keep an eye on you and the game because you know my wishes. ;)
