Games having new and exciting ways to further hone their artstyle is always a fun thing to see, especially when such things are applied to games largely carried by said style and sense of breeziness to it all. In the case of Frog's Adventure, its storybook visual sensibilities are given that extra layer of cohesion in the way that the mouse cursor looks. Something as simple as adding a custom motion blur to this heavily stylised cursor makes it feel like a core part of the world rather than this additional layer of abstraction that is typically regarded as a necessary element of the medium and genre itself. That's not to say it feels entirely diegetic by any stretch of course, but it's interesting how strongly integrated it is into the look of this game, one where even every slight deviation within feels like an interesting decision in its own right. Frog's Adventure is impossibly cute in a lot of ways that appeal very strongly to me. Everything feels very quaint and understated, never really feeling as if it's delving into full silly territory, just being very earnestly adorable the whole way through. I especially feel this way about the little noises all the characters make when you talk to them, especially the crocodile, who would without fail cause me to audibly repeat all the sounds they'd make. I appreciate the puzzles and exploration not making you feel like you're playing on autopilot either! The game is never especially tricky or obscure to figure out, but I also can't say that it was a mindless experience either. Despite the world itself being extremely small, only a few rooms big, each of them feel utilised to their absolute fullest potential, as if not an iota of space was wasted, whether it was for hiding an item or providing a vantage point to show off a different angle on how to reach an entirely different area, making the level design feel extremely tight. Needed a couple of games like this after seemingly having only played monolithic endeavours as of late, something to actually decompress with, and this is perfect for that. It's lovely in general, and the core goal of trying to reverse being given a brain is perfect as well. In a perfect world I wouldn't have a brain either I'd also just be a cat going about their day, the frog has the right idea here, no thoughts necessary ^w^. Just a comfy, quietly thoughtful point n click puzzle adventure, and one that has a funny speedrun achievement that took a lot of genuine effort to optimise enough to grab, further reinforcing how nicely designed the game truly is. 8/10
