Descent: Freespace 2 The War Continues Freespace 2 is the second game from Interplay and Volition, continuing the story after The Great War. Set two years later, the Shivans return, and the fleet—cut off from Earth—is tasked with capturing a traitor who has defected to the enemy. Once again, the game delivers a fantastic experience. Even today, the graphics still hold up surprisingly well, and there are excellent mods available to enhance the visuals all the way up to 4K. While the first game was also great, Freespace 2 remains my favorite. The missions are well-designed, and the storytelling is strong. Just be warned—some missions can be quite challenging! This is definitely a game worth playing. It's unfortunate that the series was discontinued, but thanks to the amazing modding community, there’s still plenty of content to explore. From Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica to Wing Commander mods, there's a wide range of experiences available using the Freespace 2 engine. There’s still a lot of fun to be had with this game—whether you're revisiting it or discovering it for the first time.
Although this game came out a long time ago, it really challenges your brain, hand eye coordination and strategic abilities. Graphics are above par for those times. You are the squadron leader, so you can give out orders and lead, or just fight as a disorganized group :D
This is the best spaceship simulator ever made. I started with first Freespace before I entered my teenage years, and later on when I found Star Trek, I fell in love with this game even more. Dreams and reality came to life when cruising my ship side by side with capital ship and escorting freighters through contested areas against the Shiva's. RiP Volition, the company that changed every gamers love for space adventures and (almost) made their dreams come to life.
i have installed this game to external drive but it kept saying that the game cannot run from drive root directory? what does it mean?
ive played this game since i was young on every laptop or pc ive owned hence the low hours on here now new pc and steam account this game was my soul my life when i was younger i would reccomend this to anyone and everyone expecaly those who like space sims give this game a try and i promise youll fall in love with the story the game play and more and with the modding community still active to this day its still alive and itll be a long time before this game dissapears and maybie one day a company will revive the series with a new game (also to get the game runing properly) 1) Go to the directory that the game was installed in 2) Go to the 'data' folder 3) DOUBLE click on the file 'FS2.reg' 4) Click 'Yes' When asked if you want 'Registry Editor' to make a system change 5) Click 'Yes' When Registry Editor asks if you are sure you want that change 6) Click 'OK' when Reg Edit says it's done 7) Run the game and enjoy or install knossus ^w^
First thing you need to know about this game is that you should not use steam to play it, but install the knossos launcher after and having the game installed on your computer in order to run the modded version with quality of life features and better graphics. Just search up guides and install the freespace upgrade media VPs for better graphics. With knossos you can play Freespace 1, Freespace Silent Threat: Reborn, Freespace 2, and a bunch of fan made mods which I haven't tried yet. Also if you want to play this game, make sure you have the numpad on your keyboard, I can't imagine playing this game without that. This whole series is mission focused, where you go through scripted missions trying not to fail objectives or dying. You also get teammates that you can usually command, and it's fun to set everyone's position at the start of the missions, like giving yourself a fighter to cover you or having a wing defend an escort and another wing intercepting bombers before they reach the escort. Another thing to note is that your teammates are actually competent and can sometimes even finish missions with you only commanding them, but they're not suicidal, so a bomber won't keep moving towards a big ship if it's getting shredded. My favorite part is how much freedom you get to edit your own and your teammate's loadout and ships, allowing you to approach the mission with many different tactics. I've done missions where I chose to be the single bomber to destroy a big ship and had all my teammates use small maneuverable ships to engage and cover me from that ship's escort, and I've had missions where I have a wing of bombers destroy the ship, while I just dogfight the entire time. A really special game that I would recommend to anyone that enjoys spaceship battles
Best space combat game to date.
If you ever wondered what it would be like to be a single person space fighter look no further.
Kann ich das irgendwie wieder Spielbar machen oder geht es nicht mehr Mit Rechnern dieser Zeit?
