Land on a planet, pick up some rocks, leave before the solar system explodes. Oh, and don't die in the nightly robot attacks! Freaking Meatbags is a humorous real-time strategy game that's all about building a base, mixing meatbag DNA, then convincing those dolts to help you gather resources.

strategy game in which you manage an alien colony, controlling their daily lives and experimenting with Earth humans ✅DNA fusion system allows you to fuse a human with an alien lifeform and select the clone's favorable traits (faster mining, higher turret fire rate, increased damage, etc.). ✅Interesting mix of Tower Defense and RTS genres (base building, resource management, wave defense) ✅Each planet offers new challenges, with waves of enemies increasing in difficulty and numbers, and special levels adding variety. ✅Very good humor and dialogue (emails, NPC interactions, absurd situations). ✅good soundtrack. ✅The price is adequate for the game's content. ❌The pixel art isn't appealing at all, but I appreciated other things that I liked ❌No options menu during gameplay changing settings requires returning to the main menu ❌Little enemy variety ❌Weak employee management system Decent [/strike], Good , [strike] Very Good [/strike] (Rating scale for short games, retro indie simulator games, and similar)
If you'd like to see more of my reviews, you can find them on my curator page: CuratorKingViking and on my group: GroupKingViking If you have any questions about my reviews, feel free to ask. Hello Friends, Today I will review the game Freaking Meatbags. This is a indie tower defense game with varying degrees of difficulty. Basically, the players main character is a robot who is tasked with gathering materials from worlds before their sun blows up. Along the way, they find humans, which it refers to as freaking meatbags to work for it, and the player uses them as their work force to gather resources. While gathering resources, enemies attack the player and the humans being used by the player. They must use defense barriers and gun towers to defend their base and humans. There is a store you can purchase upgrades at, but each item gets more and more expensive. There are also items you can equip on humans. Unfortunately, the way to get gold is very hard. You must beat a level normally, then beat it on hard mode, then on very hard mode. Even on normal, some of those levels are very challenging. I had to quit at level 14 because i cannot get past it. I played 3 hours trying to beat it, and had no luck. PROS: - A tower defense indie game. - This game is keyboard and mouse only. I did try to use my controller, but it did not really work with this game. - The difficulty level is incrementally difficult on higher levels. If the player wants a challenge, they can pick the difficulty levels. - Upgrades in a store in the game allow for helping the player to defend their base. CONS: - No cloud saving. - There is a bug if you build a automated mine next to the edge of a map, the information is off the side, so players cannot see it. I emailed the developers of this issue on their website. - The confusion around the 4 armed people. It is not really described very well. It basically is for use in increasing the resource miner's can gather. In the beginning they are useless until you can gene splice them with a miner human. - Looks like the game has been abandoned. It is pretty much done, but the above things in the game, like the bug and the 4 armed description need fine tuning in my opinion. Do i recommend the game? It is ok for what it is, but do not expect a polished game. Even on normal difficulty, it can be hard. The tower defense of defending a base agains waves of enemies is not a new idea, and has been used in many games.
A really simple RTS that feels like it's intentionally trying to appear 20 years older than it is. Maybe for $1 if you just demand to have another RTS in your library, but I can't recommend it for the $10 asking price. --- While you are here, would you consider following my curator page? Want to read all of my reviews and not just the curated ones?
Worth $10 to diehard TD fans only...
It's a cool little TD, with some interesting meta-progression mechanics... but holy holy hell, does this game have a huge lack of tooltips? It's insane. Specifically when looking at stuff in the shop: How much damage does a specific tower do? How much range does a specific tower have? How much health does a specific building have? How much fire rate does a specific tower have? Also, it's not JUST when looking at the shop, it also doesn't show how much health a building has in-game. So how are you supposed to accurately determine which building is suited for you, before purchasing it? You also can't kill your workers (which, if you've played the game, you'll know why you'd want to, for optimization purposes). And you also aren't given ANY information regarding the mutations/perks of your workers, so it will just say "Lazer Eyes" for instance.... WHAT?! What the hell am I supposed to do with that information when choosing which perks are best? "Lazer eyes" or "Explore" or "Hover Board".... like, what?! Give me some 'freaking' information. The tutorial is also massively lacking in information that it provides the player. It leaves massive amounts of critical information a complete mystery to the player. And like I said above, almost the entire game is missing tooltips. When you hover over anything in the game, it gives you a quirky info blurb but provides ZERO actual salient information that you can use to determine whether or not a building is better than another. Also, the game has disappearing loot, which is unacceptable in 99% of games, and this game certainly is one of those games where it's unacceptable. Also, the game just yanks you out of mission when you've completed all objectives, which is NOT the way the game should work... you should be able to leave when you want after you've completed the objectives so that you can continue to splice your workers together. The game has some massive, glaring issues that can be fixed in literally 1month if the developers wanted, so I'm wondering why after 7years+ these issues are still present in the game... but anyway, it's worth $10 at least, if you really really are hankering for a new TD... otherwise if you're looking for the best TD ever created, just play 'Prime World: Defenders 1' which also costs $10 and wait until the devs fix the issues mentioned above.
Picked this up for 2-3 euro on sale - Honestly one of the best cheap games ive bought - took ~12 hours to 100% on very hard. Really nice sound, graphics and unlike a lot of cheap games i've picked up the UX is spot on. Strongly recommend for people looking for a tower defence / rts / top down shooter mashup :)

A fun hybrid of RTS and tower defense.
allright, it's cheap. it works, and it has some classic (yet heavy handed) robot overlord humour. is it hard on hard, like it should? yes. does it have some balancing issues? yes. does it get dickishly hard on the last two waves? absolutely. do the AI change their path based on the least resistance? yes. does the slow, sluggish controls that catch on walls make travelling from one place to another a chore? yes. does the ai feature absolute bulletsponges that take 4 wall thick defences and 4+ rocket turrets to stop? yes. does the ai dig through walls instead of going through mazes? yes. clearly, the game makes it impossible on purpose to finish some levels above easy untill you get windmills, upgrades and other weapons at level 13 or 14, and you already have to get to that. i dont like having to drop my difficulty level, just because adjusting the AI TO YOUR SETUP IS TOO HARD. i came, kinda expecting a turret defence game with some management, and i got the bare minimum. ai is non-existent: the meatbags will mine a resource to depletion, then go inactive; it's told nowhere, unless you specifically go check on them (which requires moving around on the bigger maps, see my controls problem). there's a button on the hud (too small) to call them ALL to another task. if you have "guards" in place, they will come too, since you cant task them to hold a position. the meatbags will attack hostiles behind walls (thx god, that does not trigger them) when armed. all the time, constantly. if you, like me, have them all with eye lasers because you can, it's going to be annoying as hell. meatbags will walk in the way of the hostile bots. no running, no reaction to combat at all; this is why i'm going to disarm them from now on...using ai with weapons might lead to a full team wipeout and you cant remove items you added. when the meatbags die, you dont get to know who died. great, so you cant tell (bc 5px tall pixies are hard to identify) if you lost a good meatbag. that's something i'd like to have on the same screen as the next one.... because you cant go back once you acknowledge you've lost someone (♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ put their card on the screen gdmnit). all in all, dont recommend unless it's like 2 bucks or less. mostly because ♥♥♥♥ that map design that doesnt allow you to move above walls or enjoy a godview, and ♥♥♥♥ that "ai".
Fun indie game. FTL meets Starcraft meets Tower Defense.
