My name is James and I have spent 2761 hours on Franchise Hockey Manager 9. Do I recommend it? No. You will get addicted, think of it as a drug that no matter how hard you try to quit, you can't. I have tried drugs (hard drugs too) but nothing compared to the feeling this game first gave me when I first pressed play. Now no matter how hard I try to get that feeling back, it never comes back but I can't quit. I have been battling addiction to this so-called game for a few very long years now. I wake up I play FHM9.. Funny I was going to say '"before I go to sleep, I play FMH9" But I don't sleep, I have a hockey team to manage. Thank you, James, your top 1 hockey team manager.
A fun manager system
Love it. My wife hates me now, but I love it.
Doesn't allow player trades in the Czech Extraliga, just a non-accurate transfer for cash system. Basic UI features like having to set up search screen every time you move from player detail to search list. Lacks depth in terms of player ratings, I only play the Czech league and basically every player is rated the same. Appreciate the sport might not hold global appeal, but hockey fans deserve better than this generic, shallow experience.
Great game but had multiple saves of the same season all stop working simultaneously after the final regular season game of my second season when I tried to save. One save was at the 60 game mark of that second season, all 4 at various times unworkable.......what a waste lol
Full disclosure, I won a raffle for a Steam Key for FHM8, so I thought it would've been a little rich to get the game for free and then brag about how good the game was, but this time, I bought it, have modded it, and even attempted a long-winded project before diving into the Historical Challenges section. And after beating The Rookie Left Wing in 8 and the Thrashed challenge in 9, I can confidently say that this is the definitive GM and coach simulator for hockey. It isn't exactly new to say that OOTPDev has done a great job with baseball. They took the best of the GM parts of the old MVP Owner's Mode and Baseball Mogul and threw them together to get the more modern OOTP games, but lost in that, as is too common, is their hockey series. However, keeping the games' files as open as the early Windows XP titles (it actually helped teach me how to mod NHL 2004) works to a big benefit. Want a new logo? Give teams their actual goal horns? Reinstate old logos or bring in prototype ones (EX: giving the Nordiques the rejected Husky ident)? Go right ahead. All of this ends up being window dressing for the games, but with more and more coaching strategies and player attributes, both on and off-ice being added each year, the series only gets more and more immersive. Plus, who can hate a hockey game that has Mike Milbury actually contributing to society by donating bone marrow?
The game is fun to mess around with, if you know what you're doing. It is also quite in-depth, and is leagues ahead of EA's hockey game.
Complicated roster import, visually clustered, overall bad experience
FHM has been evolving. This is certainly a good version of it. Pretty in depth. Very similar to OOTP, by the same developer.
a good introduction into ice hockey management, i am really enjoying this game
