About
The Franchise Hockey Manager series returns for its 12th version in 2025-26, with new additions that will further expand on the most authentic hockey strategy gaming experience you can find.
Choose one of dozens of leagues around the world and select a team to guide to glory, including a chance at the ultimate prize: FHM12 is licensed by the NHL®, allowing you to take the reins of your favorite franchise to capture the Stanley Cup®. Or, take control of a national team and try for international supremacy.
You can also choose a historical game, where you can begin in any year in NHL® history, play in one of several historical minor leagues, or play in a legendary international tournament, including (new for this year) the World Championships as far back as 1929.
If you'd like to create your own customized league, you can do that, including allowing international play in the world you design.
If you've been playing FHM11 and can't bear to part with your team, import that save into FHM12 and carry on with the addition of FHM11's new features.
However you choose to play, you have control of your team and can oversee finances, select strategies, hire your staff, make trades, sign free agents, and draft the newest generation of stars as you try to build a championship team - and then make it into a dynasty!
All new for Franchise Hockey Manager 12:
Preseason training programs can be selected and directed to help your players make big improvements before the season starts
Targeted training during the season can help direct your players into the exact improvements you want to see
An improved Draft Day Experience, including ongoing deal-making and news coverage as the draft is underway
Trade news has been significantly enhanced, including observations about the reasons the trade was made
We've continued to modify and improve the AI's roster handling and player management, and cleaned up a large number of small issues that were detracting from performance and realism
Historical mode has added the World Championships: all the historical World Championship tournaments back to 1929 are now included
Better tactics management: sets of tactics can now be saved and re-loaded
Player generation has had further improvements, making superstars rarer but adding the long-shot possibility of a generational-level talent appearing that will eventually (if all goes well) stand with the best of the best in hockey history
A new in-game help system so the information you need is there when you need it
The big flow of good major junior players into college hockey has been implemented, and the college transfer portal activity has been ramped up
New league reports: staff ratings and alumni rankings, so you can compare your carefully assembled staff to those around the league, and discover which teams in the league have been producing players that go on to bigger and better things
As always, complete team and player updates for the new 2025-26 season, as well as smaller changes

I absolutely am addicted to this game, and I mean they can add a ton of stuff but with time I’m sure they will (ootp baseball may be the greatest sports game ever) my main grievance right now is that I’m a penguins fan and In every penguins save I do I have to manually make Bill Zonnon black, they give him the pastiest white guy auto generated face and in a sport that’s not the most diverse you gotta fix that, great game go pens!!!
The dated UI I could get over, the fact it has less features than OOTP I could get over. However, I wanted to rebuild the Jets, shopped around Kyle Connor, every trade offer was a 1 star player and a late round pick, immediately closed the game and requested a refund. If trades are broken in a sports management game there really isnt a point in playing it.
Unfortunately this is just the same game the last 4 years. You're basically just paying for a roster update at this point.
Got a refund. Started a game and tried to set scouting and the assign scout to the prospects tournament did not work.. In fact none of the tournament scouting buttons work. I was on day 2 of the franchise. If there is already a game breaking bug before I even get to preseason, the game is not worth money.
Has a lot of potential but falls short. It does check a lot of boxes but I do wish it was a bit more accurate on player ratings but the main problem of the game is trading. They make the dumbest trades in history and will also offer you pennies on the dollar. I saw an AI trade a 2nd round pick to the kings in exchange for Brandt clarke. I also did fantasy draft and got Crosby, after the first season he got 85 points. I tried to trade him and all I got as an offer was a 7th round draft pick... like really? I get he is old but coming off an 85 point season I was expecting a very late first round pick or at the worst a mid round 2nd pick.
Fundamentally solid game for those who are new to the franchise, but I'm giving this a thumbs down for the following reasons: - Adds virtually nothing noticeable compared to previous renditions aside from faster simming. - Crashes more often than previous renditions, especially when clicking on players/staff at certain times. - Features such as real player faces, goal horns, etc. still have to be modded in (devs aren't necessarily to blame, but still an inconvenience overall). - Random bugs such as when you trade for someone's rights, and it suddenly asks you to match their (nonexistent) offer. Or when I did a fantasy draft, and the game still thought that Hronek was on the Canucks years later. - Eventually, after enough seasons, you can't hire staff anymore because there's so many available that the game takes five minutes to load the list of free agents. As you can see, I've played the game more than I care to admit and enjoy it myself personally. However, it's simply not worth buying unless it goes on sale because it isn't worth the full price tag after multiple years of failing to overhaul much of anything.
This game is pure magic! The only way to save Oilers, at least in this fictional world
Game processes extremely slowly which makes all the crashing and save file corruption even more infuriating.
There are so many AI bugs and behaviours, and inconsistencies in the UI that this is hard to view as a competent realistic NHL simulator.
The good: NHL related hockey game on steam Bad: Really niche game for diehard fans (especially Euro leagues who aren't represented well in the EA NHL games) who want to sink time into their favourite team, but doesn't do much in terms of a friendly UI/learning process. Looks the exact same as previous iterations which sadly is a common thing across hockey games for a hefty price tag. Sim speeds leave much to be desired, the AI make really head scratching trades and waiver decisions. Not too many good tutorials out there either so a casual fan can feel in over their head. Refunded hence the low hours. Gonna just admit it, hockey games are absolutely left in the dust and cooked with zero pressure from non existent competitors, especially on the PC market. I want the CS knife I sold for this back now lol
