The game optimization is not as good as the Forza Horizon series, too bad it don't support frame generation, I'd say it is needed as the game requires a higher end device to maxed out its graphics. But anyway, still a good racing sim from Forza franchise as Gran Turismo won't launch to PC.
If I had to describe the game with one word, it'd be satisfying. It's not the most adrenaline pumping game, it's not the most fun game, it's not a hardcore simulator, but damn if the driving doesn't feel satisfying. I can't even properly describe it, it's just something about the weight of the car and the physics. I have never played a game where driving just feels so good (mind you, playing with a controller). There are downsides too, of course: the game is badly optimized. At first I had some VRAM error and had to mess around quite a bit in the graphics settings. I now have some settings that don't give me the VRAM error and now I'm just staying away from that settings page in hopes that nothing breaks. The game also looks somewhere between really beautiful and insultingly bad. I mean those trees at the sides of the road wouldn't be out of place in a PS2 game. But then, the reflections on your windshield and other lightning effects and also the car models all look good. Really weird experience. And, connected to this, the game takes ridiculously huge amount of disk space: a modest 135GB. The game has absolutely no business taking that much space while looking the way it does. A lot of the criticism the game has received was due to rough launch. For example, there was little to no single-player content and you needed to grind like crazy just to be able to upgrade your car. These have been fixed. I'm 10 hours in and only finished my first tour. There's like five more left, so there's plenty of races to play. Similarly, the grinding Car Levels requirement for upgrading your car has been completely removed, now all you need is the Car Points currency to buy upgrades (also they need to fire whoever decided to shorten Car Points to... well, you can guess). For clarity, previously you couldn't buy an upgrade to your car even if you had the Car Points to do it, if your Car Level was too low. Still, the game doesn't have a proper career with managing a team and all that, but I personally don't mind that at all. The gameplay loop of buying a car, playing through the 5 races of a championship, upgrading the car in between the races, and then buying a new car and starting a new championship is really addicting. And with the aforementioned driving physics, I'm actually looking forward to future championships with higher tier cars, just so I can see how does some supercar feel to drive with the game's physics. Shame about the disk space and performance issues. This is the kind of game you want to keep installed for a long time and play a few times a week, rather than no-lifing in short period of time. I recommend this when it's -50% or higher discount. Also, the game's support has been ended, there's no new content coming. E: Oh, also the AI drivers are pretty on-rails. They don't really react to you in any way. This means if you abruptly brake in front of them, they'll just happily ram into your car. A lot of people have complained about the penalty system, but I've found it to be surprisingly lax.
At this point, just play LMU or Iracing
fun
Runs great without RT! I would recommend it more if Microsoft did not ditch the game for its spinoff but such as a crappy company... Only buy if on sale and assume the risk that servers are killed in a few years killing all game progression and rendering it a technical showcase... Keep textures on low as it looks great and saves a ton of VRAM!
