FORWARD: Escape the Fold - Ultimate Edition

I got no audio on Linux (most games don't have this problem), and the startup was weird, just a small grey bar until it's clicked. Other than that the game ran okay, but it also just wasn't very good. The decisions aren't interesting. Slightly better than Ring of Pain, but much worse than Pyrene, to compare it to games approximately the same genre. And it's not really a very good genre. This one lacks any semblance of a story, has few choices each turn (though more than Ring of Pain) and seems to be pretty close to just random. Maybe some later characters make something more interesting happen, but after winning with two characters and unlocking a third without having enjoyed it, I'm not going to keep trying just in case it gets fun later, when there's no sign that it will.

I enjoy the fact I can get into a game quickly, and am constantly faced with interesting, trade-off decisions between two or more cards that face me. Should I go for the monster to gain skulls even if I take a hit to health? Maybe I ought to go for the coins, which are a safe bet. Then again, where will my position leave me for my next choice of card? Will I have enough health to face to boss if I keep going after these mana potions? One of my items grants bonuses when I have corrupted items in my inventory... Is it time to press my luck? A fair amount of luck faces you, but items you purchase (either with coins or the skulls from defeated monsters) mitigate this by stacking the deck with additional beneficial cards. The behaviour of the different characters and their initial item load-outs provide more variety and invite you to change your approach to an otherwise straightforward game of chance. I'm a big fan of tabletop adventure games, and this has the same vibe to it. I have fun with this game, and you might, too.

Really awesome concept! I enjoyed the play through and thought it was well designed and balanced. It definitely took me a few tries to win.

Nothing particularly wrong with the game, just didn't feel like there was much depth.

A good game to get for $5.

Simple yet entertaining. Like a solitaire with RPG twist.

Nice little game tho the content is not immense and I don't see myself playing it more than a few hours. However the aestethic is nice and so is the music and concept so if you can get it on sale it is a yes. For a similar game with way more content and an even more polished experience (better musics, deeper mechanics etc.) I qwould definitely recommend Pyrene by the same developer to which I played 7.2h at time of edit and I haven't even scratched the surface!
