Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.71/day in the week to Sep 7 → 0/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

If you're an old fart like me who first played this on a simple Apple IIc, you're going to have a fun trip down memory lane. The game is as unforgiving as modern games but have none of the politics, none of the in-your-face crap, and, yeah, none of the fancy graphics. You'll roll a lot of 1's (you microwaved the d6 upside down, apparently), you'll watch monsters with a 20 THAC0 (if you don't know what that is, you're not a big enough Nerd) consistently hit your armored tank of a fighter with an AC of -2, and you'll be spending quite some time inventing new swears as your party gets toasted once again by the nice, happy, friendly trolls that keep you from completing the very first area of the very first game. And, 8 games for 1/8th the price of a modern game. Sure, only 6 are really playable, while 1 sucks harder than a Dyson, and the last one lets you make your own game (think RPG Maker before RPG Maker had it's heyday). Best part? You get the Gold Box Companion system, which gives major QOL improvements over the OG where even leveling up required a disk change. So, get it. Have fun. And, if you're like me, find one more reason to cling to a past long gone, refusing, once again, to grow up and be an adult. Being an adult is sooooo overrated.
It offers so much nostalgia

This is nolstalgia talking but I really loved this game when I was younger and I'm not liking it any less now. It's simple and final... you die... you die. The uncertainty of walking through the areas... never knowing what you're going to run into and if a bad run of dice rolls will make the end of you... I love this thing. I'm in Pool of Radiance right now... in New Phlan in the slums.
nostalgia
Played all these games on the Commadore 64 back in the late 80's and early 90's. Loved them then, and I still love them now.
Love these games from years ago, still great fun.
These are still just as good as they were almost 40 years ago.
The GOAT!
I played this game when it first came out on an 8088 10mhz clone. GBC didn't exist yet which made playing much tougher, i still have the original boxed set with 5 1/4" disks. i really enjoyed it then and i still do now. the battles can run long, sometimes 20 minutes or more. it follows D&D 1st edition rules faithfully so if you enjoy D&D this is the game for you.
An enjoyable nostalgia run. Pools of Radiance is solid and the rest of the series just improves upon the original. Hillsfar is absolutely terrible, but the rest of the gold box is worth playing if you enjoy ancient turn based fantasy. Overall I preferred the Krynn series however.
