The purest fighting game possible. Huge recommend.
I suck even at this
this is better than xrd
Unlike most fighting games where admittedly whether I'm playing against a human or the CPU, I tend to default to "What if I just dash in as close as possible and hit buttons?" or if that doesn't work "What if I just jump in and hit buttons?" or if that doesn't work "RANDOM SHORYUKEN!" this one's mechanics force me to, like, actually have to stop and try to play the game well if I want to win, and it's kind of a novel concept in my mind that winning involve actually knowing what you're doing, and I don't think ever before this have I actually gone out of my way to look for my opponent's normals so I can whiff punish them, say. Honestly, if I played this game for an extended period, it would probably be good for me. The online community seems to be gone at this point, and I wasn't able to get a game against anybody, but I feel even just the stuff against the CPU is probably worth playing for its own sake. Maybe it's just my complete lack of any skill at footsies in fighting games, and for all I know maybe someone actually good at this would say "Oh, no, the CPU is worthless", but I feel even playing against the CPU requires me to make a genuine effort to not play dumb in order to beat it, and with most fighting games it's "Eh, I'll do what I want, it's not like it actually affects the outcome, and ultimately whether or not I win this interaction is totally up to the whim of the machine and whether or not it simply allows me to win or decides to do whatever thing exactly counters whatever I did", but here the Whiff Punisher CPU especially (I.e. this game has a couple different CPU's in it meant to mimic different playstyles, and this is one of them) makes me go "No, I can't just throw out nonsense, if I do that I will get punished and I will die. I have to actually know WHY I'm hitting a button here", and it genuinely feels, like, meaningful to play against.
This game teaches you fighting game fundamentals in a simple, enjoyable experience. Would recommend to someone with a desire to improve their fighting game skills, and to pros looking to teach their friends :)

Feels like a good warm up before starting a match in fighting game
Great intro to fighting games with juust enough depth to keep you hooked. If I wanted to intro someone who's curious about the genre, I'd gift them FOOTSIES.
