played for 43 minutes yesterday. came across 3 major bugs, including one where i placed a LOAN offer for a player and 4 days later received an email saying my TRANSFER offer of 0 pounds had been accepted, and also 9 minor bugs. had to restart the game because it wouldn't let me hit continue and had graphical glitches in one of matches i played. the main UI at the top where it says portal, squad, recruitment is nice until you click on a down arrow or go any other screen. How this is the state of this game with the bad bugs from launch and given they had a whole year extra to make it, i dont want to imagine the state of this game if they decided to release this mess for FM25
I'm a late purchaser and I'm writing this for other on-the-fence people like me. For the record, I pulled the trigger on WC MD1 because I just couldn't deal with not playing anymore. The truth is that FM26 is a sidegrade, on a five-degree upward tilt. I waited so long because of the overwhelmingly horrific reviews that made it seem like this was irredeemable unplayable garbage--despite ~50k people playing at any given moment of the day. Well, it's not. If you have significant hours in any of the FMs from the last five years this will still feel like coming home after a long day. It took me less than twenty minutes to work my way around the UI changes, with probably another twenty spread sporadically across my hours as things came to mind.
Objective improvements:
--Match engine graphics are fantastic. --Game speed is mind boggling even at around 200k players and 124 leagues across 56 nations. --Character creator can actually produce human-adjacent creatures now. --Vital to my RP, I can actually get a decent contract relative to my accomplishments. For example in FM24, I could win every cup and the champions league five seasons in a row and would still be offered 75k per year. I managed to get 350k after two seasons in Austria. Obviously this is super dependent on where you start, but I always pick a level 3 or below club in some random non-B5 nation with zero experience and being born 9/11/2001.
Objective failures:
--A whole lot of simple features simply aren't there. The one that drives me crazy the most is that you can't save lineups. Late season, this means manually adjusting your lineup while trying to remember who goes where, every match, every time. --UI designers thought popouts was the future, except they're not. They're a wasted step. For example, if I want to hire new staff, I have to go to club -> staff (opens popout) -> coaching team (closes popout) -> staff database -> shortlist (I only hire attractive females because if I can't build a harem in every game I play it makes me nervous). This is even more irritating when finding B or U18 staff. --Character creator cannot produce anyone aged less than 45. Anyway I meant to post this before the sale ended, but considering it closes in about three minutes my bad; I bought this on a keysite anyway, so use isthereanydeal if you're in the mood. This is not a disaster game. Take a gander at the player counts at literally any second of any day and you will see the majority agree with this. I think it's on the right trajectory, but there are still some baffling dropped balls and a glut of minor features they just didn't bother with.
WHat can I say, I've been playing this game since it first came out as Championship Manager, and before that Football Director and Tracksuit Manager so its been a journey, but this is the first time I've asked for a refund. The UI is to "busy" on the eye, far too much going on and it all blends in, it needs to be cleaner, the 3D graphics are disjointed and unrealistic. I tried to love it, but there were far too many changes to the game too quickly. They should have just renamed it something else and just said it was an entirely new game. 1/10
very bad game last edition for me is fm 23
terrible UI. All FMs before this one were so much better.
**Recommended** After 2,500 hours in FM24, I was pretty skeptical about FM26, but I've ended up enjoying it a lot. The biggest improvement is the match engine. The football feels more natural, player movement is better, and watching matches is actually enjoyable instead of feeling repetitive. It's the first thing I noticed after switching from FM24. I'm not one of those players who analyzes every hidden mechanic or compares every feature from older versions. I mostly care about whether the game is fun, and for me it absolutely is. There are still things that need polishing, and I understand why some long-time players are disappointed with certain missing features or UI changes, but none of those have stopped me from sinking hours into another save. If you enjoyed FM24 and can look past a few rough edges, FM26 is worth it for the improved football alone.
