**spoilers ahead** They were right when they say that affordable indie experiences change you. I got this game for the whopping sum of 3.90 bucks and every minute of those 3 hours 20 where met. I knew the game from somewhere — at this point I don't even bother trying to remember how I heard about stuff. The game just doesn't let me down. It was a short while and that's why I wanted to play it since I just 100% completed Gran Turismo 4 a week ago. It just gives me so much immersion for what it is that it just deserves a spot up there, the only other game that had me on a paper map with a compass was Far cry 2 which is an outliar in terms of ubisoft. The graphics were also gorgeous and really did get the most of what a Wyoming sunset looks like. As for the music it's a really strong point here, everytime a song cam on breaking the quietness of the wild it just sent chills down my spine and that's because one it's amazingly fitting for this american pastoral scene but secondly also because as far as the detective work and the plot go, this just had me on my damn toes — the prime example would be the first time you get to see that shadow meddling around at your tower. And here the real shiner let's be real is the story, talking about which I found the gameplay really fitting unlike some people who were really annoyed at the thought of a "walking simulator" as they call it" and yeah that's what you get for your picturesque setpiece, but if I really wanted to play something high octane I would rather be on Metal gear rising or something man. So yeah, the laid back slower paced roaming around really helped me take in those aforementioned visuals and sound (nice tortoise by the way). It starts with a kind of RPG choice based intro to set you up in the world putting in the process the weight of a dementia affected wife and not so young dog that I did get to pick. Although you never get to see said wife (you do see a picture in the tower) more on that in a bit, you get to see the Henry's mental state and gymnastics all throughout. The game shines in a really unique manner that I have never and hope to never see again (please be a once in a lifetime experience), it is the fact that even though you interact with people on the job — mainly Delilah — you never and I mean ever get to see a single face during the whole thing. And as far as the narrative goes, I really really admire the implications and weight that this can hold. It brings mystery and doubt all the way and helps to wrap it up great with a clear and concise ending. Now the fact that I never got to see a single soul with whom I interacted led me to some hasty conclusions while playing that make me theorize about events in the game and particular relationships. My thought process sparked mainly from that scene where Henry gets a call from Delilah in the middle of the night that turns into a discussion with your wife only to be reminded around the next day that you called her only to start mumbling about you wife. That could very well be fatigue and exhaustion from such predicaments but the game lets you more than once wonder in your dialogue options if you were — I don't know — perhaps imagining things and hallucinating things. And I know that the wife Alzheimer's is real because she has a picture but I still wonder if maybe just maybe Henry had a mental illness of his own, I mean they never tell you what really happened that night and it just makes me wonder if he couldn't have experienced a bit of schizophrenia at some point. While the body is real and his dad sure is too considering how long he's been there, as I said some of this stuff doesn't get cleared and it's better that way. Anyways, I don't know if the community made hundreds of videos dissecting that since I didn't really interact with the community, only saw some people talking about the walking. Futhermore, great stuff and I am left satisfied with that money spent.
Shame it was a bit short but it was worth it all the way
IM ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ STUCK AGAIN AND AGAIN
best cozy game ever
I went into Firewatch not really knowing what to expect, and it ended up being one of those games that sticks with you. The conversations between Henry and Delilah felt so real that I actually found myself looking forward to every radio call. It never felt forced or overly dramatic. The world is gorgeous too. Walking through the forest while the story slowly unfolds is surprisingly relaxing, even when things start getting creepy. The atmosphere does a great job of making you feel isolated without relying on cheap scares. I know some people weren't happy with the ending, neither was i. Why couldn't she just wait a minute? I actually wanted to see how she looks like after speaking to her over the radio for so long!! If you're looking for fast-paced gameplay, this probably isn't for you. But if you enjoy games with great writing, memorable characters, and a story that stays with you after you finish it, I'd definitely recommend giving Firewatch a try.
