good game (wall jump sucks)
Was I the cat all along?
You won't find promised perfect movement here
By the YouTube video, I was fooled into trying that game, because it promised a good platforming experience. Oh boy, is this advertisement unsubstantiated. In this review, I'm not going to talk about the art style, music, or anything else except movement. Let's dive in to find out what is wrong with it.
The "Ledge hop"
It is promised to be one of the forgiving mechanics, but is it really? In theory, it allows players who failed their jump by a few pixels to gain some extra height to make it onto the platform. But what does it actually do? It ruins the experience! Because it is absolutely broken. If you're holding a directional movement, It may: [olist] [*]cause you to stuck just below the edge you were trying to get on [*]cause you to, purely by random, do a second jump off the platform without any extra input from you [*]cause you to get on the platform (AS IT SHOULD ALWAYS DO) [/olist] If you're not holding a directional input, it may either just make you jump and fall near the wall (AS IT SHOULD) or cause you to stuck in the air near the platform, as shown in the screenshot https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3526435459
The hair
You see, even tapping the Hair ability (shift) for just one frame makes the witch go, I believe, 5 pixels up. Five pixels height gain from pressing a button for just one frame... This might sound like not an issue at all, but the game's movement is super snappy in everything else and this just doesn't fit in.
The air flows
I think they affect the character's gravity too much. First, they give you about 30% more jump height, which, in my opinion, was absolutely unnecessary. It only messes with a player's expectations and has no actual use in the game. Second, the falling down is slowed by at least three times compared to normal. Three times... Do I need to explain how uncomfortable that feels to move from air flow to normal gravity? And again, I don't even know why it was needed. It could have been made so that air flows only interact with your Hair gliding ability or affect a character ever so little and that would have been just awesome.
To Summarize
Don't get me wrong. I am not a hater. I really enjoyed the game for most of it, but the things I brought up really are there to ruin your experience. And while you can deal with and get used to the air things, you can't work your way around broken mechanics that are based completely on randomness. All I have left to say, I wish I could like the game, but I just can't. Both you and I know that you can do better next time and I look forward to it.
>Claims to have responsive movement >Movement feels like ♥♥♥♥ Falling faster than you ascend on a jump gives too little time to respond, resulting in planning where you will fall mid air instead. The climbing feature has no feedback for stamina, I kept thinking I just stopped climbing because I did something wrong and when I realised it had a time limit it was still trash because while wall jumping the player either snaps too much to the wall or doesn't at all making the jumps inconsistent and I must climb to gain back control of the jumps, consuming the stamina I need for actually climbing where needed, I'm going to the YT video and changing the like to a dislike, this is a scam.
Que joguinho bom e criativo. Arte bem bonitinha, música legal. Um metroidvaniazinho de plataforma. Gostei bastante e foi muito legal ir liberando as mecânicas. O final é muito bom kkk. Nota 8/10. Ah demorei 59min e morri 316x to na média né? kkkk
Lovely wall-jumping mental torture for the whole family.
It offers great value for its price
I LOVE LITTLE CAT
It's short, but packed with creativity and heart! Worth it for the price.
