Summit: Steps of Solace surprised me in the best way. What starts as a minimalist mountain climb quickly becomes an emotional journey, with every leap, slip, and checkpoint telling part of a larger story. The movement feels incredibly precise and satisfying; you can tell a lot of care went into designing the controls and level flow. The game doesn’t rely on flashy visuals or voice acting to move you. Instead, it uses subtle messages and environmental storytelling to build a quiet, powerful narrative about perseverance and connection. If you liked Celeste, this scratches a similar itch while carving out its own identity. Highly recommended if you’re into platformers with soul. The soundtrack in this game is pretty amazing too.
Fun Platformer with some Caveats Summit: Steps of Solace is a fun, but by the numbers platformer. While the game records your height, and displays itself to be a bit of a "climber" type game, it goes screen by screen and is more akin to a basic platformer with a small challenge that is sequestered to a single screen. You have a small variety of movement options on certain screen, but generally it is jump, cling, and climb with a couple varying weather or terrain differences. I found the game to be a slight bit too simplistic, and quite easy. I was able to finish it my first time in about 27 minutes, and that was with very little urgency. The game is meant to be played several times for speed running and optimization in mind. With the right expectations it is quite fun, but even with an already low price point, I believe this should have been marketed as even MORE of a budget title. Also, the majority of the climbing is without tools or without the bird, and I really think the game does better when the movement options are a little more advanced. As it is, you experience the game very simply, with very little room for creativity. Ultimately, this is fine, it offers a bit of a challenge, especially to speed run, and it does not try and waste your time. Small, simple experience, worth it if you do not expect too much. Recommended, but nothing that will dazzle you.
Very much so enjoyed this game, it was clearly crafted with love and care by the developer. The music, graphics and overall sound design are really well done, and I think that this game is truly a hidden gem. It is super challenging, with multiple unique mechanics keeping it fresh throughout so you never get bored. Once you have mastered one mechanic, the game throws another at you right until the very end of the game, so by the end you have an arsenal of skills able to conquer the hardest rooms in the game. I highly recommend playing this game, for what it costs it is an absolute steal and a really fun and beautiful experience.
Awesome game! Had fun with the first play through. Definitely challenging especially struggled on a couple levels. Character has a weighty feel to him which made all the jumps/maneuvers feel really impactful and calculated. Looking forward to seeing what time I can get in Speed run mode! Sound track and cut scene animations really well done as well!
Really nice platformer, im so garbage at platformers but this one was just hard enough so that I felt accomplished when I finally beat the level but not so insanely hard that im spending days on 1 level, I ended up beating it in 50 minutes with 243 deaths lol. Also shoutout to my cousin Taylor Kirkwood for doing the music for this game you did a great job man.
Проходной продукт. ★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ 1/10🌟
Really enjoyed rhe feel of the player movement. Found myself having a hard time putting it down!
I really liked this! Not too long, a good amount of challenge, very pretty pixel art, and a sweet story lightly told throughout the climb. I'm glad I bought this.
Great game and really enjoy how the mechanics evolve as you climb the mountain! I need to work on my speed running time!
A wonderful little Celeste-like precision platformer; indeed, very Celeste-like in that it’s a relatively difficult, emotional 2D pixel art platformer about climbing a mountain. However, the controls feel very different, the jump weightier, and it’s a much slower, more deliberate game, which is ironic considering it’s got a rather moreish speedrunning mode. Each screen is a platforming puzzle to be solved, some requiring pixel perfect jumps. The quick respawns, which occur on a screen-by-screen basis, offset any potential frustration. New mechanics are added over the short runtime, keeping things fresh, fun and challenging. The story is sweet and sad, although it’s considerably less sophisticated and nuanced than the likes of Celeste. However, it certainly adds narrative motivation to get to the top of that (literal and metaphorical) mountain. The controls are tight, although the movement (especially the jump, which is highly sensitive to how long you hold the button) takes some getting used to. I also find that the odd input is ‘missed’ here and there, although it sort of feels like you’re missing your foot or handhold, as opposed to the game being unfair (at least, to me). Oh, the music is rather lovely, and the main character sprite, and the pixel art generally, utterly charming. I like this game, a lot, and it’ll be among my games of the year. (I’m still playing this, continually improving my climb time up the mountain. My first climb took about 75 minutes, my most recent, 17 minutes).
